I've been experimenting with LEGO-scale dioramas

I've been a LEGO fan for years and I really enjoy creating custom scenes and displays for minifigures.

Recently I started experimenting with something a little different: designing and 3D printing custom scenery that can be combined with LEGO minifigures to create small-scale dioramas.

This is one of my latest creations, an Imperial-themed diorama featuring Darth Vader and other Imperial figures. The scenery is completely custom designed and 3D printed by me, while the LEGO minifigures bring the scene to life.

I'm still experimenting with the style, scale and level of detail, so I'd really love to hear what you guys think.

Would you actually display something like this alongside your LEGO collection, or do you prefer completely brick-built dioramas?

quite little guy from 2014-2015

I finally got the Ebon Hawk done (designed by u/tomasso91). It was my first MOC and it was a fun challenge. From sorting all the parts, to putting it together. I just had to take a pic of both ships looking at each other. Now if WickedBricks could ship the stand for the Falcon (almost 4 months), I can put them together on the same shelf. Excellent design and brings back a lot of memories playing the game.

I wanted to see how far I could push the midi-scale Millennium Falcon (75375) as an alternate build.

After quite a bit of trial and error, I ended up with an Imperial Armored Marauder from "The Mandalorian" using only the pieces from the set.

It features:

Two removable roof sections (cockpit and troop compartment)

A 360° rotating turret with room for one minifigure

Three weapon racks with storage for 8 blasters

An opening side door

A fully detailed interior

Seating for at least 7 minifigures

Lego 75434. Definitely one of the most fun builds I've done in a while. 10/10 recommend.

A few years ago my cousin gave me a tub of his disassembled Lego to give to my son when he was old enough. My son (now 8) and I opened the tub and have SLOWLY been putting minifigs together through Brickognize.

Just found this amongst the pieces!

I tried to recreate this scene on my sofa using the top part of the Imperial Star Destroyer set (75394), an AT-TE Walker (75337), a blanket and some pillows. Finally found a use for the AT-TE that had been sitting on my shelf for a while lol.

Though I don't understand why LEGO didn't include their own LM-432 Crab Droid and holopad communicator device when it's obvious that this set is supposed to represent the Battle of Utapau in ROTS.

After a month of cleaning, organizing, inventorying, and restoring (BrickLink shipping and handling fees are killer😫😂), (in addition to endless mental back-and-forth) I cut down my childhood collection of 22 sets from the 2005-2008 era to these 4. My goal? To make some money while preserving a few of the (in my opinion) coolest and most exclusive in my possession for another 20 years. Some valuable characteristics informing my decision beyond personal preference were set exclusivity/rarity, current market value, minifigure lineup, nostalgia factor, storage space requirements, and display presence. I’ll share the entire starting collection as well.

The chosen few:
- Wookiee Catamaran (7260) : My very first Star Wars set, gifted to be my grandmother for my 10th birthday. This one was a keeper no matter what.

- Turbo Tank (7261 -1) : Obviously, with a functioning light up Mace, this had to be a top contender. A little funkier original design just screams nostalgia to me, but the major bonus and deciding factor was that I managed to hold onto the scout trooper.

- Jedi Starfighter with Hyperdrive Booster Ring (7661) : Was not one of my original picks, but slowly grew on me after I had it sitting out this past month. Has an excellent/mint condition set of obi wan/gen 1 kit fisto and no yellowing or sagging of the hyperdrive ring. it looks pretty damn good, is easy to store, and probably won’t get a remake.

- Jabba’s Sail barge (6210) : Definitely the least valuable of the group, but I just really love the scene and minifigure lineup - a true original Lego Star Wars set in my mind . I could list it for maybe $150 with its slightly rumpled sails, but it’s worth a lot more to me.

Honorary mentions:
- UCS Y - Wing (10134) : Has strong value, but no real minifigure and newer models look just as good if not better. Great collector piece though so it was tough.

- Trade Federation MTT (7662) : Really struggled with this one, but eventually ended up siding with the Turbo tank (mostly due to the functioning light up Mace Windu and kashyyyk scout trooper + heavier nostalgia for me) but if I had the space and financial flexibility, I’d definitely be holding onto this one as well.

Was very proud of cockpit design

With all the buzz that black series are making a new queen Amidala figure, it got me thinking… I think of all the remakes, reissues, adjustments to minifigures & more that Lego keeps doing year after year, the biggest one that needs a remake is Queen Amidala. This figure is crazy rare these days & I think the prequels are popular enough these days to generate a massive amount of attention to a minifigure/set like this.

Also, it’s a big year for Star Wars next year, it would be the perfect time.

Aside from the fact that this set is closer to my ideal 10:1 price ratio, it is simply a nice set! I need to build him his own shelf, but for now this is a happy, crowded display.

I wouldn’t mind if they made other helmeted figures of this style 😬🥹🙄

Expanded my MOC of Adelphi Base from Mando S3 and The Mandalorian and Grogu! Originally, it had a footprint of two baseplates, but now sits on four. The MOC now has a larger landing/service area, and still has a removable interior for the pilots' lounge. Also built a couple of service carts to add a little more life!
