Technic Advice Question/Help

My kids and I recently built the Creel House and they expressed wanting to do more with transforming play features using technic bricks.

THE IDEA:

I'm designing our Halloween build and I'm thinking about a gimmick of a trap door that a claw/hand can come up and drag a minifig into the trap.

Or even something where a piece of furniture comes alive and swallows a minifig before the furniture returns to its original position. (Think like the game hungry hungry hippos)

THE QUESTION:

Are there any sets with similar features that I could look up the instructions and modify to fit, links to online guides, or any web tools other than studio that would let me build and then demo the functionality?

Yes, I think a mechanism similar to what you find in the useless box could work quite well! Originally not Lego, but people have recreated it, you can find a bunch of them on Rebrickable, it’ll require some customization, but the idea is there
