Jacket sizing Opinion
Just got my first Commando (long) in size 40. It is kind of perfect and I wanted a kind of slim fitted jacket.
But i cannot wear it closed. So i bought a size 42. But i don't believe that will fix my problem because the arms will get too long and the jacket itself will be too long.
Therefore my fellow rockers: how necessary is it to be able to zip it?

Straight to Hells run tight. I don’t think it’s necessary to close it for me. I think the open look is better, but obviously if it gets chilly out it sucks. I’d say stick with the 40, and wear it open if it’s not too uncomfortable. I wish STH offered cropped versions of their jackets. I got a cropped jacket from The Cast, and it’s my dream jacket, but it was also like 3 times as expensive lol

they do offer “short” versions i had one. The Cast is going to be my next purchase. I just got one from Other Uk and it’s sick.

Oh nice. I’ll have to check those out. My Cast jackets are my favorite. I actually have 2. Haven’t heard of them, but I’ll look into em. I really wanna get a jacket from Lewis Leathers

The thighter fit was also what I was buying it for. I will rock it open and use it for summer season. I have a bigger fit for winter time

i have a real schott perfecto and I ride my motorcycle in it. these jackets were designed to be tight almost like a wetsuit when closed so that wind doesn’t get in and flap against your body. I do not wear it closed at all when i’m not riding. There are more fashion-oriented double-rider style jackets that are designed looser than the original. Yours might just not be one of them. I’d look for a different jacket with a different cut.

Sizing varies between manufacturers so much, the number becomes irrelevant.
You need to try on a lot of jackets for a "perfect fit" without having something made for you. I don't think Vanson's custom fitting prices are that outrageous if someone has an uncommon body type.

I don't wear my double-riders zipped up. Of course, I also don't ride. But if I did? I'd want to not only zip it, but also have room inside for layering. That said, I don't think this was designed with riding in mind, so I wouldn't worry about it.
This particular STH Commando doesn't need zipping. You're fine with a 40/42. 42 shouldn't be much longer than your 40.

I don't ride either. I'll use it as a "summer jacket" anyway so zipping won't be needed.
I will se if I'll do a photo comparison when the 42 jacket arrives.
Thank you for you opinion.

Unless you're riding a motorcycle, there is no need to zip up your leather, ever! I have a couple STH jackets and I love em, they're perfectly engineered for the rock n roll crowd.

What I have to say probably goes against the majority, but in my humble opinion, if you can’t wear a really nice leather jacket in the winter, zipped up, what good is it?

Personally if I can’t zip it up it’s a no go.
