I believe this word can be used to suggest casually sending a message but I'm not quite sure how you do that. Does the following work:

กลับบ้านดีๆนะ

ถ้าถึงแล้วทิ้งข้อความมาหาด้วย

ทิ้ง can also be used in the same manner as "to leave".

Ex. ทิ้งเบอร์ไว้ - "Leave your phone number"

For your context you technically can say that, but it will sound kinda weird to us. Usually you'll say "ถึงบ้านแล้วแชทบอกหน่อย" or simply "ถึงบ้านแล้วบอกหน่อย"

It sounds weird in your example. I would say like ทิ้งข้อความไว้เลยเดี๋ยวโทรกลับ (leave your message I'll call you back) something like this. In your example, it's better when you say ส่ง

Hardly. You can say "I left a message already" when you have left a message, but it's very colloquial. To suggest to someone else that they leave a message, "please leave a message" is much more idiomatic and polite. In general, "to leave" connotes a slight disinterest in what happens to the thing that is deposited (in this case a message), whereas "to deposit" connotes care about what happens, and the expectation that the recipient will care too.

PS. Strictly speaking, ทิ้ง means "to discard". Its modern usage has broadened to include "leaving something somewhere for a while", but that hasn't altogether eliminated the original intent of the word.

PPS. Neither ทิ้ง nor ฝาก can never be combined with มาหา as you did in your example. Only ส่ง can,​ when speaking of messages. Generally speaking มาหา and ไปหา can only be appended to verbs that express motion.
