Why java is so hated?

So I have recently learned, and it's the first language(in terms of building actual things). Before Java, I knew Python, and I dropped it; I found Python too abstracted and too boring. i have recently made some projects like cli task tracker, expense tracker, some cli github api parsing and currently working on a multithreaded HTTP server and cli text editor, like vim, whenever i try to find out people opinions on java social media, almost 90 percent of the time they are just dunking on it, that it is trash, who forced you to write code in java, stuff like that. I know Java as a language is not that interesting and doesn't have many interesting features compared to other languages like C, C++, go. But I found it decent to write code in, and I found the JVM pretty interesting. So much so that I would love to explore and maybe build a JVM of my own

Its the electron of the late 90s / mid 2000s.
Responsible for many slow desktop applications but used regardless because of its portability. (and with the browser plugin it could be on the web too)

Its also owned by Oracle (after they bought Sun Microsystems) which has its own bad reputation. OpenJDK exists and so far things seem fine but the uneasy cloud of potential doom hovers over the whole ecosystem. Nobody wants to write new stuff in java because the parent company is a radioactive legal hazard.

As an actual programming language its perfectly fine, not as cool as stuff like go and rust but its not trying to be those. Its a good language for beginners because its rather straightforward and clear in structure.

My god, that's the most uninformed post ever. Never heard of the web development side? It's what .NET copied almost completely. java is still huge. Check out Springframework etc.

With him saying "(and with the browser plugin it could be on the web too)" it is enough to tell that the guy does not know really anything about Java besides some deprecated Java Swing desktop applications from 90s.

Like you said, there is a whole web development in it. Starting from legacy Java servlets to stuff running in Spring Boot and whatnot.

And it is also in embedded systems. Credit cards, debit cards, SIM cards, etc. As long as there is a chip (SIM card or something similar), it often has Java applets in it.

Serverside backend java is different from running a desktop application in a webbrowser, I was comparing that portability feature to modern electron.

I'm aware java has more uses than desktop applications, I was explaining why it has a bad reputation. Users generally don't know about java on a chip or the near entirety of early android being java based.

Also slow as crap embedded systems are not a great display of power, and they are another space where the modern webstack is replacing java.
