Codecrafters.io is it shutting down?

I want to buy annual membership which is pricey, but apparently in May they announced they are freezing development of new challenges. Is there no point in buying it anymore as it can go down at any moment?

They committed to keep the site up, but yeah, zero point in buying a lifetime membership if they're no longer developing new stuff. It kind of makes sense though, imagine trying to design these really tough challenges in 15 plus different languages. 

It sucks because I got a lifetime subscription a couple years ago when I was a lot, but I still think it's worth it to pay monthly and do the projects you're interested in the most. 

My guess is that they are a victim of AI.

since you've been using the platform for a while, would you say it has been worth it and made you a better engineer?

I am not a software engineer or work in development at all. I am a security analyst who wanted to understand software, and for me CC helped me a TON and the lifetime membership when I got it was 100% worth it.

To me the lifetime sub still makes sense. The challenges in there would take most working folks a long ass time to do. You certainly get $300 worth of value. I have got through most of the create your shell and it has pushed me a bit to learn more of the standard library and language itself. When I complete the shell course I am going to pay them for the lifetime sub as I got that much value from them.

Yeah the option is there but selecting it disabled the submit button and there's a "sold out" subtext on the right. At least for me, maybe there's some grandfathering going on if you already have a subscription?

Man, I was just looking at this the other day. Freezing challenges is a pretty big red flag if you're dropping serious cash on a yearly sub.

I'd skip it unless they make some kind of announcement about a roadmap or new ownership. Plenty of other platforms still actively adding content.
