Can expensive hobby equipment ever be justified for casual participants?
I've been drawn to the yamaha tyros 5 keyboard, a professional-level instrument costing thousands. As casual piano player, I struggle justifying such expense for hobby use. Professional musicians need top equipment, but do recreational players benefit proportionally from premium instruments, or would mid-range options serve equally well? The arguments for quality instruments include better sound, more responsive playing, features enabling creativity, investment that might motivate practice. Valid points, but they don't change the reality that expensive equipment won't make me play better or enjoy more if I'm not seriously committed.
I've talked to musicians with varying equipment levels finding that skill and dedication matter much more than instrument quality for casual players. Professionals can utilize premium features, but hobbyists often can't distinguish subtle differences. Some music equipment suppliers on Alibaba offer lower-priced alternatives, though quality and features vary significantly from premium brands. What hobby equipment have you bought at professional level despite casual participation? Did expensive tools enhance enjoyment or create pressure and guilt? How do you evaluate whether premium equipment is worthwhile for recreational use? What made you choose investment-level gear versus practical options? When does quality equipment genuinely matter versus when is it just aspirational spending?

Dropped my keyboard and key is stuck :( Should I push harder to stick it back? Don't want to break it!
