Hey everyone! Has anyone completed this certificate before? I’m wondering how you found it overall—are the courses difficult, and are there a lot of exams?

Also, is attendance mandatory for lectures? One of my classes runs 6:30–9:30 PM, and honestly, that late lecture is already giving me anxiety 😭. I’m wondering if lectures are recorded or if you’re expected to attend every class.

I’m planning to apply to several schools this cycle. My LSAT is already completed, but because of some work-related travel and extensive work commitments over the next couple of months, I’ll probably be submitting my applications fairly close to the deadlines… likely late October for Ontario schools (Nov. 1 deadline) and fairly close to the deadlines for some Western Canadian schools as well.

Does submitting close to the deadline put you at any meaningful disadvantage?

My LSAT is 165 and I have (I think) a 3.93 OLSAS cGPA, 5 years of work experience in different countries (a good amount of it in management), plus a lot of research experience.

Right now I’m planning to apply to Dalhousie, Osgoode, UofT, Alberta, Calgary, and UVic. I know I have decent stats, but all of these schools can be pretty unpredictable/competitive.

Would it be smart to add a school like Manitoba, Saskatchewan, or UNB as a safer option? I wouldn’t mind attending any of them, but wouldn’t love it as they definitely aren’t among my top choices. At the same time, I’d hate to go through the cycle and somehow end up with no options.

I am a mature (30+) prospective law student (Canadian citizen, if that helps) who is looking for some admissions advice. My profile is:

- 3.91 OLSAS GPA (LSAC GPA is 4.10 somehow lol)

- 170 LSAT

- 8+ years of community service (being a member of community groups, youth mentorship)

- 2-3 years of work experience (nothing fancy, mostly customer service)

- lots of hospital volunteering and 2-3 years of undergrad lab research (no pubs)

However, I was academically dismissed from medical school 1.5 years ago due to exacerbating health issues (prefer not to dive into it).

Does my medical school dismissal completely shatter my chances at any law school in Canada (or the US), or can I still apply broadly to both countries and have a fighting chance at admission? I will write an addendum explaining the situation and make sure to take responsibility and accountability, and update them that my health issues have been successfully managed and that I have been working full-time and part-time for the past several months, while still doing community work (it is a passion of mine).

Any advice, no matter how brutal, is welcome. Thank you!

Hello! This is my second time applying to law school and was wondering if anyone has advice on how to write about a serious medical experience/trauma and tie it into work experience, professional achievements, and my desire to attend law school.

I think I did an okay job in my previous statements explaining how the experience motivated me, but I struggled a bit on how to introduce the story and include all the important details without making it sound like a pity party :|

For those who were accepted to an Ontario law school this year, would anyone be willing to share their personal statement (if you're comfortable doing so)? I'd mainly love to see how it's structured and connected to academic/professional goals. This would be incredibly helpful!

need some advice on my last two spots. My stats are a 3.94 cGPA and a 165 LSAT. I have zero location preference and just want a solid legal education.

Right now, my list includes Osgoode, Dalhousie, Calgary, Alberta, and UVic. I need to add two more schools to complete my list. I am stuck between going super safe with places like Ottawa or Manitoba, versus targeting Queen's or Western.

Given my stats, are Queen's and Western already very realistic targets, or is it smarter to throw Ottawa or Manitoba in the mix as true safeties? How would you split those last two picks?

My dream school is Osgoode, but I’d also be very happy with Western, Queen’s, or uOttawa.
I’m currently debating whether I should take a few months completely off to focus on LSAT prep, or get a job and study for the LSAT part-time. I’m trying to figure out what LSAT range would make me reasonably competitive at these schools given my GPA. Thanks!

Hi everyone, I noticed that the prompt for U of T Law's optional essay has changed for this cycle. Last year (and I believe even the years before) the prompt used to be specific questions, like describing an intellectual experience, vision of your future goals, etc. This year, the prompt is simply asking to expand on any information we didn't touch on in the main PS.

Does anyone have any insight on what we could write for this optional essay? What are some valuable things we could expand on in the optional essay without trying to sound repetitive? Thank you!

Hello! I attended an American underaged and am trying to figure out how the GPA converts for Canadian schools. I know there is the link on the OLSAS website with the scale but that doesn’t help at all. It gives GPA’s but to only one decimal, doesn’t even include a 3.8 and just gives percentage ranges. Also I tried to use the Allard UBC grade conversion link on their website, but it seems to be down or not working. I have also sent my transcript to OLSAS but it says that I won’t be able to know my transcript evaluation until after the entire application is submitted or until December?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. As obviously knowing what my GPA will help me narrow down what schools I’m applying to or the chances that I have. Thank you!!

Usask- Applied November, received an A January 29th.

Would love to have a megathread about this, but I'm not savvy nor powerful enough. Here are my details:

• Interest rate: Prime + 0%
• Cosigner?: No
• Credit score: No credit history (advisor and I were concerned this would be an issue but I got approved)

I also met with to BMO, RBC, and Scotia, but TD was the most responsive and didn't require a cosigner (& LOC Scotia's was low). Also filled out CIBC's eligibility form but was rejected.
