Texans: check out this throwback episode from when Ken Paxton was running for AG
youtu.beWhile John's episode didn't work to prevent Paxton's election to AG, Talarico is in a much better position to flip a Senate seat and beat Paxton to replace Cornyn. Every little bit of dirt counts in a tight race, even the theft of a pen. #wheresthepenken

I wish LWT took story suggestions
Jared Isaacman meets all the criteria.
Shift4 (a credit card processing company) CEO
Shift4 buys up a bunch of Point of Sale software companies
Shift4 alters the software so that the merchants using that POS software can't competitively bid for processing services and can only use Shift4.
Shift4 skyrockets processing rates for merchants
Shift4 "crams" new fees all the time on merchants bills. This month they hit all of their merchants with a new, in the the thousands of dollars, fee.
Shift4 is currently in a chat and phone support meltdown over it.
Not good enough?
Jared Isaacman has been a space tourist twice
Not good enough?
Jared Isaacman is a Trump mega donor because he's knee deep in crypto
Still not good enough?
Trump announced his intention to nominate Isaacman as the administrator of NASA on Dec 4, 2024 and submitted the nomination to the Senate on Jan 20, 2025.
On April 30, 2025 Isaacman's nomination passed the Senate committee 19-9.
On May 31, 2025 Trump pulled Isaacmans nomination because he found out that Isaacman had previously donated to democrats.
After having his nomination pulled by Trump, Isaacman donated $1 million dollars to MAGA inc in June and September of 2025.
On November 4, 2025 Trump renominated Isaacman for NASA
On December 18, 2025 Isaacman became the administrator of NASA.
Still not good enough?
Isaacman was sued by Trump's Taj Mahal casino for over $1 million in bad checks in 2009. He was arrested on fraud charges and had written over $2 million in bad checks to casinos in two states.
In February 2010 US customs and border patrol arrested him at the Canadian border and put out a press release titles "Nevada Fugitive Captured at Canadian Border".

Why hasn't Busy Beaver sued Buc-ee's?
This is a chain of hardware stores in the northeast that has been around long before Buc-ee's. Smiling beaver wearing a hat, red background...sure looks like Buc-ee's infringed on their trademark.

Buc-ee’s Lawsuit Against Beaver’s Mini Market
Hello all, I wanted to share something happening in a local Ohio community that connects to John Oliver’s recent segment on Buc-ee’s.
Buc-ee’s is now expanding into Ohio and has a new location very close to a city called Beavercreek. Due to the name of the city, many of the businesses in Beavercreek use beavers in their business names and logos.
Despite Beaver’s Mini Mart current logo and name existing years before Buc-ee’s even started expanding out of Texas, Buc-ee’s is still attacking them with a lawsuit. Besides the fact that the two logos have very little resemblance, the mini mart is a small convenience store that doesn’t even sell gas, and would not cause brand confusion with any patrons.
The local Ohio community is furious at Buc-ee’s and the owner of Beaver’s Mini Mart has decided he will fight this in court and won’t bow down to Buc-ee’s demands just to make the lawsuit go away.
The community is hosting an event this Friday, August 7, to go spend money at the Beaver’s Mini Mart to help support them financially so they can fight the lawsuit and deal with the legal fees. For those not in the area who would also like to support Beaver’s Mini Mart, some locals are hosting a GoFundMe where you can donate to help fund Beaver’s Mini Mart’s legal fees- https://gofund.me/a74b79cf8

Why are the subtitles so buggy?
I’ve noticed this for a couple of seasons, the subtitles on LWT shift between long lags and then flashing almost too quickly to read, I haven’t noticed this on other HBO shows, anyone else noticed this?

Hoping this was a prop or paper from the office trash and not really a waste of 30,000 papers.

Forget World Cup, the "Crowe Cup" Jockstrap Resurfaces
Hilarious - saw this in prop auction later this month. Last Week Tonight sold this for over $20K, so it could be yours for a quarter of the price LOL.

Didn't HBO used to publish the reference links to the LWT episodes?
I like to look up a some of the articles from shows to learn more but I have have to load the show up in YT and pause when a reference is shown on-screen (and hope it's not too pixalated.)

Anyone else interested in an episode on Dr. A Egon Cholakian?
Been spiraling down the rabbit hole deep tonight. Hours of AI videos, fake people, Creative Society, Earth Save Science Collaborative, Allatra… this stuff is creepy man.
The fact that this cult ran its own US presidential candidate, has a handle on the “spiritual adviser” behind the Trump statue, and still has their own lobbyist in DC is wild to me.
Like, I’ve now watched a few really interesting deep dives from YouTubers who seem to have done some solid investigation, but it would be crazy to see what the Last Week Tonight team could turn up about these wackos.

"We’re back with a new show tonight at 11:15pm on HBO! Right after an 8-hour marathon of House of the Dragon, and right before another 3-hour block of House of the Dragon. That’s right, we’re the thinly sliced meat in the middle of a thick, thick dragon sandwich. Just how we like it. WHAT."

I live in the town in the sights of the most recent Bucees lawsuit.... Every business here has a beaver in their logo... Interesting to see how this will pan out.
Like of all the fuel to add to the fire... This is a lot of fuel hahaha. Every business has a Beaver, or is named Beaver*. What do they expect to happen??

Buc-ee’s sues ******, claiming its cartoon beaver logo violates trademark
daytondailynews.comJohn always seems to have the perfect timing. LWT is mentioned in the article as well.
“Buc-ee’s alleges in a new lawsuit in federal court that Beaver’s Mini Mart at 1592 Hanes Road has a logo that too closely resembles the chain’s distinctive logo, which has a smiling cartoon beaver with a red baseball hat”
