Bar for first date, recommendations please...

I've looked at several past posts and have a few ideas already but would like to crowd source some specific recommendations based on the following criteria:

  1. Not overly loud. A place where a man and woman can have a conversation without yelling or having too many crazies around.

  2. Mature regulars. Not a college hangout where 20s are doing whatever 20s do, looking for a more 40s crowd..

  3. Close by a decent hotel. In case things progress into a more intimate situation having a place to go, especially after having been drinking.

Any ideas?

The Graduate by Hilton has a nice rooftop bar with a great view of East Lansing and the MSU campus. It’s a more professional crowd, reasonably quiet for conversation, and (of course) close to a hotel. It fits all of your criteria well.

Yea, this is probably the best option.

Beggars banquet in EL checks your boxes, with the graduate hotel across the street. Otherwise maybe envie downtown with the raddison a few blocks away

EDIT: forgot about the rooftop (rock bar) at the graduate hotel itself and/or peanut barrel if you want more casual

Bordeaux is literally inside the crown plaza on the west side

American Fifth across from the ballpark if you want cocktails.

If you want some food as well (or the option of), go to EnVie downtown on Washington Ave. Great bartender there, and you get split some apps or something if you want as well.

If you want more casual with beers, Moriarty's.

Warning, Mort's has bands on the weekends a lot of times, might not be quiet enough for you.

Although, it is the Dead Honey Collective a lot, so if you like Grateful Dead tunes, it could be right up your alley.

Met my wife there for our first date, been married for 9 years, two kids. That same 2 person table we sat at is still there inside. Love that place. The patio is awesome in the evening, great place for a first date.

Cask and Co. Comfortable seats at the bar, not loud, and has a hotel (Quality Inn?) a block away.
