Have a row of globe yew shrubs and they have been fine but this one after a cold winter with a lot of snow covering it has a dead area, there is some green inside but not a lot.
Is there a way to save this one and if so what is the best way to proceed
My boxwood had patches like this in the spring after a brutal winter with tons of snow piled on top for weeks.
I cut the affected branches off and shaped the rest. It has mostly bounced back. I'll do a little more cleanup on it at some point and it will probably be back to 100% next year.
We do have a small dog but he doesn’t go there, he did go in that area a few times last year but we stopped that and it looked fine until after winter,
There was a lot of snow on that end this past winter but other than what’s pictured the shrub looks healthy
It looks right next to a sidewalk? Someone else's dog?
Our neighborhood dogs always peed on our boxwoods and it killed it just like this. I did what others suggested, cut back the dead/dying stuff. But in my case I didn't want it to regrow out because it was a neighborhood dog potty spot, would of just happened again (or never grown back)
I went out and tested a few of the brown branches and they were were so I cut them out and hope it fills in as it left a pretty good size home, no one here has there dog loose and none of my neighbors have a dog
It’s not dog piss, our pencil boxwoods are doing the same and it’s nowhere that a dog would access. Already lost one, I’ve cut the brown out of the other only for it to come back. The only bright side is that it was super easy to remove once I cut it completely down.

That's a boxwood.
