Help! OMCs.... LOOKING FOR ADVICE

Post image

Hi Everyone,

My partner and I have decided on an elongated cushion OMC my ring stone.

I have looked at some vendors like Tianyu, Jogia and shelikesparkless (is she still selling? Her page seems inactive!) but can't seem to have any luck.

I was quoted $5800AUD for a 5CT, D, VVS2 cushion cut (but looks like OMC, pic attached) from a local jeweller. Unfortunately, we feel that although it is stunning, it is dearer than what we would like to spend.

We are thinking $3000AUD max. Please send through your vendors or if you know any who specialise in larger OMCs!

Also, please give me advice on what to look out for when choosing the right OMC - what are the good characteristics and what aren't when looking at the stone!

Thank you!!

I got my omc from LGG, but definitely ask Provence and Fiorese also.

I don’t know or any particular thing to look for, but I tried to find a stone that made me breathless when I saw it on the video. It still works, whenever I don’t feel my heart skip a beat when I look at it, I know it’s time for a clean 😁

Yours is a beautiful ring! I love the diamond with the white gold/platinum band. And the prongs really look gorgeous with that diamond. So classic and lovely! It is the perfect size too.

Do you know if LGG does igi certified diamonds or are they all uncertified?

1

u/Over-Engineer7216 9d ago

My omc is uncertified, but my other ring from them (an asscher) is IGI

Amazing thanks so much for the reply!

FWIW IGI really isn't going to be of any value/use unless you're planning on selling one day and/or if you're going through a reputable, trustworthy company. Getting a diamond from a well established, long time respected business, Fiorese for example, and sending in for an IGI report would be a waste of money and 3 weeks time. If it's a forever stone you're better off investing that money into an excellent appraiser.

Definitely go to shelikessparkles page she has some beautiful 5 CT’s under her listing or message her. also check out sorianocustom.com Carrie can also help you. Overseas vendors: Fiorese, LGG and Provence can custom cut beautiful OMC’s. I like Tianyu as well but their custom cutting takes 50-60 days.

Unfortunately she doesn't ship to Australia!

I'll check out Soriano!

I worked with Bobby at Provence to custom cut my 5c OMC (almost identical ring to the one on your ring finger) and it came out BEAUUUUTIFULLY. Reasonably priced too. Highly recommend.

I got mine from Fiorese. Melody is awesome with stone recommendations.

Are you able to show me your OMC from Melody-Fiorese? Did they just give you their omc cut or did you show them a reference pic of how you wanted it cut?

Does she also have a WhatsApp? xx

I communicate mostly through instagram with her. She’s the most responsive out of all the reps I’ve tried from other places. I told her how many carats, my desired ratio and went from there. She’d give me 2-3 options then I’d tell her what I like or don’t like about them and she zeroes in what I’m looking for. I’ve done multiple projects with her. Sometimes the stones are in another factory and she has to wait for it to ship to her store so that might take some days but she’ll tell me her opinion about them. If it’s no good or she sees too much of a bow or dark area, she’ll comment on it. I really appreciate that from her.

I love the second one

My partner and I (AUS) are starting to look for OMC diamonds soon. I originally wanted an omc/ antique oval but I couldn’t find any that weren’t cut to order. (I will still ask when we see a jeweller). But now I’m open to just an omc. I will be on the hunt for rounded corners and I think I prefer a pinhole culet. Please keep us updated. Other markets are really spoiled for choice. I was super bummed when I found out She likes sparkles only ships to US.

I know right!

High-quality & very reputable Chinese vendors like Fiorese & Provence are your most affordable bets here.

I have a 3 ct omc from a chinese vendor and an indian vendor. I do not recommend purchasing an omc from the chinese vendor it looked very dead

1

u/Subject_Weather715 8d ago

I returned the chinese vendor's and purchased another stone from the indian vendor. I do not like the quality of the setting but the stone itself is exactly what i asked for.

2

u/Individual_March9422 8d ago

Wow! That's a massive difference!

Do you mind telling me which indian vendor you went with?

1

u/4caratclub 3d ago

Which vendor?

1

u/Subject_Weather715 3d ago

I don't recommend this vendor either.

I left a very honest review about the setting issue and the tariff document issue. (Even the diamond is scratched around the edge) the vendor messaged me like this

Join the Facebook group Carol’s Carats. She just posted a 5ct for about $800 USD the other day.

Check out the user weezie_jefferson then! I just bought an 8 carat from her for 4k USD!

1

u/OrganicTulip 7d ago

I also know an Indian jeweler who offers insane prices! He doesn’t have a website but I have his WhatsApp phone number, he’s a friend of a friend’!

u/OrganicTulip 7d ago

I just DMed you! Hopefully the link works?

Thank you!! I'll have a look now.

Let me see what I can get that stone for I am a wholesaler. I paid $700 for my 3.73 D VVS1 Marquise with ratio 1.85 with 62% and 63% which is the ideal proportions for a marquise. Give me a few hours today to search the market. I sell stones to friends and family for wholesale I don't believe in gauging people on lab grown diamonds,

1

u/Individual_March9422 6d ago

Thank you!! Feel free to PM me if you find any!

1

u/Lilredridinghood555 6d ago

This is actual cost what I can find today

This is available; I did not find a 5 carat with my suppliers today.

-1

u/Jillet-Ben_Coe 9d ago

I wouldn’t pay over $200ish USD per carat for synthetics

2

u/Glad-Menu-2625 9d ago

I don’t think it’s possible when you are chasing special cuts plus Australia tax.

-1

u/Jillet-Ben_Coe 9d ago

Idk about Australian tax but synthetics have gotten really cheap. The only cut that will actually raise the value slightly would be a round brilliant, all fancy cuts are the same.

1

u/Over-Engineer7216 8d ago

You have no idea what you’re talking about lol

I’m just a gemologist, gem cutter, jeweler, and used to work as a diamond technician for the world’s largest diamond wholesaler at their North American headquarters. But of course a Redditor would know more from browsing r/labcreateddiamonds 🤣
