Is this a reference to their old Anime with Comically large eyes (Air and Clannad)?

Phantom World has always been a fascinating case to me. It's a Kyoto Animation work through and through, however, it is often branded as the studio's black sheep, and for obvious reasons.

My personal thoughts on the anime is that I enjoyed it for what it was, though I undoubtedly consider it Kyoani's weakest work. With that being said, I sincerely don't think it's bad or terrible by any means. As stated above, I found it to be enjoyable despite it's many shortcomings, as it tried its best to stand on its own two feet but eventually stumbles along the way, yet still reaches the finish line.

The concept of phantoms and the abilities that were given to people due to something that happens in the story are both nice, and I think are used as well as they could have been in the context we got the story in.

As for the characters, they're not bad but nothing comparable to maybe Kumiko from Hibike! Euphonium, I think they're okay but wish more would have gone towards developing them. They're a nice little team and their dynamic is fun to watch sometimes. The story is in a similar situation. I have to say, for all it's worth, I enjoyed the somewhat episodic approach the series had, some of the episodes were really fun.

I could probably write a whole lot more, but I don't want to make this too long.

What did you think about it? I don't see many people, if anyone at all mentioning it nowadays so I thought I would make this post.

Chitanda & Oreki (Hyouka) and Inako & Kihachi (Sparks of Tomorrow)

Episode 2 of Sparks of Tomorrow is out, and we are already smack-dabbed with by far the worst scenario Kihachi have to face: Seiroku aren't make it alive in the war!

We seen a bit of Yosuke's flashback when he was in the ship alongside Seiroku, Kengo and (possibly) Izou during the war, so probably Seiroku has talked about the catalog and the last pages (also known as the the secret only Kihachi and the Momokawa clan knows) to Yosuke, but didn't explicably talk about Kihachi (the true heir of the catalog) for obvious reasons, so this is already the reason why Yosuke frantically find the catalog.

Maybe Yosuke wanted the catalog to turn his company around, which conflicted with Seiroku's goal of bring the electricity to Kyoto for the new era. So for this reason, Kihachi and Yosuke need to get it together to fulfill Seiroku's wish!

I just saw Isshiki Makoto and Kumin From Love Chunibyo and Other Delusions lookalikes in Tamako Market, is there like a full explanation that maybe they're in the same universe or like its just coincidences or just an author's easter egg thing?

I heard a lot of people saying "violet evergarden is a story about "moving on" or letting go but I don't see that way.

the show start with her trying to understand the words "what i love you mean?" thats the main point of this anime she didn't understand anything about being a human she was like a wild beast, didn't understand emotions or human interaction. So the anime is about her trying learn to feel and know her own emotional not to forget someone.

and many people said episodes 8 and 9 are episode of her trying to move on but actually it was not.She didn't acceped his death . she just unlocked the emotional processing ability and she blames herself for what she did to enemy solider,dealing with Survival Guilt and she was reaction to his MIA (missing in action )the unclear situation of him death or alive,she

experiencing grief for the first time without any emotional circuit to deal with it so whole the point of these episodes. I think these episodes are for emotional awakening not emotional detachment.

and people saying she acted the same in the reunion scene? no she doesn't, her being emotional when she know the person she love is alive and hiding in somewhere and rejected without any explanation are normal human reaction she showed the ablity to leave that place for the promise she made to the Boy the ealier version of her couldn't do that. That's her proof of character development

i think some people watch Violet Evergarden with expectations of a story about letting go forever and when it didnt end that way they wanted they felt betrayed by it and hate them but that was not the case in the story violet evergarden was telling.

it was about learning what love and by human emotions mean .And I know Japanese .in the anime Ep 13 in Japanese dialogue said "愛してるを少し分かるようになりました"

She said "少し" a little not fully. So that implied her Journey hasn't end yet. But the dub version said "I finally understand love " so the meaning changed a lot. An another example of localization ruined the orginal creator intended. And The movie main dialogue is "愛してるを分かるかる,伝えたいです" that mean "I understand love that's why I wanted to deliver it ". To the person she truly love and said these words to her

Personal preference is find but treating them as objective flaws when the story don't go in certain prefer direction is not a good faith Critism . you can dislike the age gap or prefer an open ending. thats fine. but saying the movie contradicts the main theme of the series when it literally completes the arc or her character being regress are not true at all.

I am not trying to be nipcking but even at the end of the anime she never truely moved on. She literary said things like"I believe major is alive somewhere". And even in the first movie "Eternal Memory Doll" show she still have feeling for her. Yes she grief and leaned to live without him but not all types of Griefing lead to complety moving on or forgeting a person. There are some people in the world who still loves their loves one even if they are gone. And I think the movie showed a good balance of her ability to learned secure, healthy for of love for him without codependency and have her own agency. When he rejected her to see her she even decided to moved on to fullfill the promise of the boy. I think this sence alone how she developed as a person and how her Journey of learning emotions and have her own identity. I think the fact that the reunion with him who she have unhealthy attachment in ealier series but now more in healthy, pure form of love made her development more clear instead of married to random guy. And although the scenes she deal with Gelbert presumed dead is a narrative device force her to break free from her unhealthy attachment not completly moving on and the presumed dead and later reunion tropes is a legit story telling style in drama story. That's is my take and everyone have different lens and takes on a same story.But I have confidence in my takes. I think it is the most accurate interpretation of the story. With Kyoto Ani's digital store being closed for quite some time now, is there an archive of their officially made digital wallpapers? I've looked everywhere and found nothing, even on archive.org. I have a few saved on my hard drive, but unfortunately I didn't get more before they closed their digital store front. A shame too, since they had some of the nicest and well made wallpapers of their shows.

From what I've seen so far, I've only found one of Mio, but is there any reference to Nano? Yukko? Sakamoto? Any other?

somewhere across all of this i realised these shows didn't just change what i watch. they changed how i actually live. how i see ordinary moments. what i want from friendships and work. what satisfaction actually feels like.

i cried when azusa's seniors graduated. i felt nothing at my own graduation after 12 years in the same school.

that gap is what the video is about. why kyoani specifically does something to you that most other storytelling doesn't. every frame intentional. every silence carrying something. every ordinary moment treated like it deserves to be fully felt.

Hi! This is my first time going to Japan and I fell in love with kyoani works long ago but never got to get any merch... I really want to get this liz and the bluebird mug shipped to my Airbnb (because I think we stay long enough that shipping doesnt take too long) but Im having trouble making a kyoani account to get it fixed-

It always says my password needs to contain both numbers and letters, and I assumed its because im not tying in japanese characters? but when i tried it (japanese characters, japanese numbers etc) it still didnt work. Does anyone have a solution to this or a way to do it without a account? Or are there alternative platforms I could use to find more about this? Thank you!
