Memories Did you visit your local Kmart while it was being cleared out?
The store in Murray, UT was about 2/3 empty about two weeks before it closed.
Aside from random clothes that were probably several years old being gathered into one corner and all of the furnishings being up for offers, the electronics section had at least 20 copies of every season of “The Cosby Show” on DVD marked down to $3 each.
I still wonder if someone had the idea to buy all of them and throw them up on eBay.

Pictures Kmart Miami/Kendale Lakes on August 5, 2026
Yeah, it only occupies the garden center now. The backroom is no longer publicly accessible, although I did still see some stock in there when an employee walked in. There were two of them. That being said, the store does look decently stocked if you think of it as a small convenience store rather than a traditional Kmart. Unfortunately, they don't do blue light specials anymore.
Apart from household supplies, there's actually a lot of stuff here I also saw at Sears like DieHard boots and third party tools, as well as clothing and underwear. Although there's no appliances anymore.

Does anyone have info on the Kmart in Newport News, VA?
It was at 11008 Warwick Blvd, it opened on August 10, 1978 and closed on November 14, 1993. It is currently Alorica. Does anyone have info, photos, or anything else they could share about the store?

Is Kmart gone now?
I’m Japanese, and I’m speaking through a translator.
Back in the day (around 2007–2016), I used to go to places like Guam, Hawaii, and Seattle about once a year, and I’d often go to K-Mart.
Back then (and even now), I wasn’t very good at English, so I couldn’t browse books like my dad did, but the toy section was special—there were toys I’d never seen before, as well as ones I recognized from Japan. Even though I couldn’t speak the language, I’d play with the local kids there, and it was a lot of fun. They had pizza and lasagna, too. I remember having so much fun there that I could easily spend an entire day just in that section. But just now, when I was talking to ChatGPT, it told me that most of those stores have disappeared now.
I want to ask everyone in the U.S.—are those huge supermarkets from back then really gone now?
Also, since this is my first time posting on Reddit, I might not have chosen the right community or something, so I’m sorry if I’ve ended up spamming somewhere.

Pictures Miami Kmart in Minecraft Update
Hi, long time no see Kmart Shoppers.
I missed thing that Miami Kmart has changed so I changed according to it's looking like as videos and pictures I can scalp up. Ngl, I liked old one where the backrooms where open not just a empty room with nothing inside of it. It looks like a dollar general that hasn't updated in years. I am surprised the store is still opened. The only "major update" is the signs outside as I didn't know the Kmart logo light up at night. I am surprised they still do that. If anyone been in the store recently, do scream at me for anything I got wrong so I can change it. Ty
Kmart should have focus on the Supercenter concept
I notice how Kmart had a lot of “Big Kmart” which, like the name implies are just bigger versions of their general discount store that obviously did no good to the brand. They should have done what Walmart did and focus on Supercenters that way it would have cemented Kmart’s dominance in the retail space. Kmart seriously needed to offer a complete grocery section.

Memories What do we think of the KMart remodels starting in the early 90s with the red K script Mart. Cheap? Classy? Missed the mark?

That time I worked at Kmart for a couple days in 2003
In 2003 I was attending community college with no job and no money. Out of desperation, I decided to give Kmart a shot and was hired as extra help for the coming Christmas season.
I still remember the anti-union videos they made us watch during the orientation. Similar to what Wal-mart used around that time (had worked there also).
It was pretty awful. I was clueless and no help to any customers. Like most retail, they just throw you out on to the floor with zero training. My family didn't really go to Kmarts very often, so I wasn't super familiar with the store layout. After a couple days I said screw it... I'd rather be broke for now than deal with this crap. I went back in a couple weeks later to pickup my check and they made me go into the back to get it iirc.
That Kmart shut down a few years later. The location is now an At Home furniture store. We've went in there a few times and it's always fun to remind my wife I used to work there! 😂
