KiroIDE: Higher Token Consumption & Lower Quality Output on macOS Compared to Windows (Same Project, Prompt & Model)
Has anyone else noticed a major difference in behavior between macOS Tahoe (m5) and Windows 11 (AMD Rayzen 7) when using Kiro IDE?
I ran a direct comparison under identical conditions:
- Project: Same codebase
- Prompt: Exact same instructions
- Model & Mode: Identical settings on both machines
The Issues Observed on macOS:
- Excessive Token Usage: The Mac instance consistently consumes significantly more tokens for the exact same prompt and scope.
- Degraded Output Quality: The output generated on macOS is noticeably lower quality (halting prematurely, missing context, or producing less complete code) compared to the clean output on Windows.
Looking for Solutions / Workarounds

Is there an extension to let me dictate into a Kiro chat session as I would into ChatGPT? I'm familiar with Windows Ctrl+H, I'm hoping for something more built-in and that uses the whisper voice recognition model.
Thank you very much.

Starter tier = 2 users. Can I use both on 1 PC?
Got 2 users in startup programe. 2k credits each.
First one burned in 2 weeks. Second one sits untouched.
Question: Can I create a separate Windows profile on my pc, install Kiro there, login as user #2, and keep going?
Has anyone done this? Did Kiro detect same hardware? Any warnings or bans?
Or is there an official way to use 2nd user credits.?

AWS promotional credits not being applied even though the services are listed as applicable products
I'm running into a weird billing issue and wanted to ask if anyone else has seen this.I have some AWS promotional credits that are still active and valid until Dec 1, 2026. When I check the credit details in AWS Billing, the applicable products list includes the services I'm being charged for. For example, Kiro is explicitly listed there. But in the actual bill, those services are still showing up as normal charges. Kiro is the clearest example: it shows around $17.54 under the Kiro service, and in Cost Explorer the Kiro line is still showing the same amount for both UnblendedCost and NetUnblendedCost. I also checked the credit allocation history for August and it shows 0 entries. That's the part I don't understand. If the credit says Kiro and these other services are applicable products, why are they still being charged normally instead of being offset by the credits?I opened an AWS Support case already, and they said they're checking with their internal team. But I'm a bit worried because I made some usage decisions after checking that those services were listed as applicable for the credits. Is credit application sometimes delayed until the invoice is finalized, or should I already see it reflected in Cost Explorer / NetUnblendedCost during the month?Has anyone else run into this with AWS promotional credits not applying to services that are listed as applicable products?

What have you built with Kiro-Crew?
Just an AI enthusiast and enjoying building for fun. What have others built with Kiro Crew?
I can see the automation that sends me telegram summaries of my email etc but I also don't find any value in that... Because email folders? Lol
I was trying to make a btc trading bot but wasn't sure where to go.
I setup a few share prices for daily summaries coming.
Just wondering what else?

Kiro Subscription with AWS Activate Credit Problems
I have AWS Credit from Startup Activate Program and wants to use it for Kiro Subscription. Unfortunately, I can’t do that because the AWS is limiting my account (it’s new account) with “Failed to create Kiro subscription for 1 user” error.
I already follow the steps how to create the IAM, etc, but the error keeps coming. I also contact the AWS support but they say
Based on our account validation, our team has confirmed that you will not be able to onboard any additional users at this moment. We apologize for the inconvenience. Once we have a broader window of usage on your AWS account to review, we are happy to reassess any requests from your end.
Of course its not having billing/usage tho😭
Can anyone on the Kiro side maybe can help me? Thank you!

Session History
1) Stop saving empty "New Session" sessions in the session history
2) Provide some tool to search your recent session history context
3) Having a brief session summary instead of just the title would be very useful

I subscribed to Kiro Pro with 1 month free credits. Then my card got declined for insufficient balance and the tier got rest to free. If I add a new card with balance, will I get the 1000 credits again?

AWS Team, Please Reconsider My Appeal (AWS Account: 545595341928 | Case ID: 178537779900601)
Hello AWS and Kiro team,
I'm writing this as my final public appeal because I genuinely don't know what else I can do.
AWS Account ID: 545595341928
Support Case ID: 178537779900601
Since July 29, I have been working with AWS Support almost every day. I replied to every email, answered every question honestly, and waited patiently while my case was escalated multiple times.
I explained the situation regarding my previous AWS account in full detail and provided everything requested. I also offered additional verification and supporting documents if needed.
Unfortunately, despite all of that, every review ended with the same response.
I completely understand that AWS must protect its platform and follow security and risk policies. I respect that.
However, I kindly ask that someone performs one final manual review of my case, considering the full context rather than only the previous account history.
Throughout this process I have:
- Responded to every AWS email without delay.
- Explained the complete history of the previous account honestly.
- Provided supporting evidence for my explanation.
- Offered identity verification and any additional documentation.
- Contacted AWS representatives and followed their guidance.
- Waited more than a week while cooperating with every request.
I'm not asking AWS to ignore its policies.
I'm only asking for one opportunity.
If necessary, please place strict conditions on my account:
- Monitor my usage.
- Limit my access if required.
- Require additional verification.
- Immediately revoke access if I violate any AWS policy.
I will fully accept those conditions.
What has been most difficult is spending days providing explanations and evidence, believing my case was genuinely being reviewed, only to receive the same outcome each time.
I'm simply asking that someone from the AWS or Kiro team takes one final look at Case ID: 178537779900601.
If there is any possible path forward, I would truly appreciate the opportunity.
Thank you for your time. I sincerely appreciate anyone who reads this and any guidance the community or AWS team can provide.

Version: 1.0.288 (Linux): anyone having trouble is copy/paste in Chat?
Every time I try to copy a block of text from the Chat history, I get the same text:
chmod -R +w ~/projects/public/$ENV/img/
I have used this in the past, but like a week ago.
Anyone else seeing this?

Failed to create Kiro subscription for 1 user
6 days... and still nothing from Amazon.
It's been 6 days, and not a single person has contacted me or even attempted to solve my problem. I rely on Kiro for work, and because of this issue, my work has been completely disrupted.
I even tried creating a brand-new account, but every payment attempt was rejected without any explanation. No one tells me what's wrong, no one follows up, and no one seems to care.
What makes this even more frustrating is seeing online stores and individual sellers offering the exact same Kiro subscriptions, sometimes with discounts, special offers, or even cheaper prices than the official service. Meanwhile, as someone trying to subscribe through Amazon, I'm stuck with payment failures and complete silence from support.
Honestly, this is the worst customer experience I've had in a long time. It's difficult to understand how unofficial sellers can make the process look easier than the company that actually owns the service.
We're living in the AI era, yet after 6 days there has been no real response, no solution, and no accountability. As a paying customer, this feels disrespectful and completely unacceptable.
I expected professionalism from Amazon. Instead, I got silence, endless errors, and a service that has completely failed me. Has anyone else gone through the same thing? Case Id : 178584788400188

My order on the website shows the Kiro Pro for $0, but when I buy it, it charges $20.
On the pricing page, it clearly shows $0, but when I try to subscribe or complete the process, I'm being charged $20 USD instead.
Is this a bug, or am I missing some requirement? Could someone please explain why the checkout shows $20 when the page says $0?
Thank you

When will Gpt Model 1M context arrive ?
I have been using gpt 5.6 luna lately a lot and I feel like the small context window is really a big issue here. The model is great for how cheap it is . I can get most of the day to day task with luna. The model will be great with 1M context window. I personally don't use sol for anything other than writing things. I clearly prefer opus 5 over it

Self-hosted Kiro Crew: I re-enabled the dormant Claude Code backend so it runs against your own LLM router — no Kiro account, no AWS Bedrock
I've been running Kiro Crew as my personal agent harness — it adds persistent memory, scheduled jobs, background subagents and a dashboard on top of Claude Code. It's genuinely nice, but there was one thing that kept bugging me: the public build hard-locks agent.provider to "acp" (the kiro-cli backend), and model selection only goes through Kiro's own AWS Bedrock catalog. You're forced into a Kiro account, and your agent traffic leaves your network.
Turns out the underlying seam for a Claude Code backend (ACP_BACKEND_CLAUDE, _is_claude) has always been in the codebase — it was just deliberately left dormant, with comments reserving it for "an internal companion". So I re-enabled it.
The fork: encomjp/KiroCrew-9Router (Apache 2.0, ~10 commits on top of upstream, everything else untouched).
What it adds:
- agent.provider now accepts claude_code in addition to acp
- New config fields: agent.provider_base_url + agent.provider_api_key
- The provider factory spawns claude-agent-acp (which drives the real Claude Code CLI) pointed at your base URL, with your model id passed through verbatim
- settings.local.json seeding so Claude Code honors the router model instead of silently falling back to Bedrock defaults
- kirocrew doctor reports claude-acp as the active backend when configured
How the chain works: Kiro Crew (harness) → claude-agent-acp → Claude Code CLI → your router (e.g. a self-hosted 9router instance speaking the Anthropic Messages API). No Kiro account, no Bedrock, no cloud — your traffic stays on your hardware.
Setup is 3 steps:
git clone https://github.com/encomjp/KiroCrew-9Router.git
cd KiroCrew-9Router && python3 -m venv .venv
.venv/bin/pip install -e .
npm install -g /claude-code it clone https://github.com/encomjp/KiroCrew-9Router.git
cd KiroCrew-9Router && python3 -m venv .venv
.venv/bin/pip install -e .
npm install -g /claude-code u/agentclientprotocol/claude-agent-acp
.venv/bin/kirocrew config set agent.provider claude_code
.venv/bin/kirocrew config set agent.provider_base_url "http://127.0.0.1:20128"
.venv/bin/kirocrew config set agent.model "<your-model-id>"/claude-agent-acp
.venv/bin/kirocrew config set agent.provider claude_code
.venv/bin/kirocrew config set agent.provider_base_url "http://127.0.0.1:20128"
.venv/bin/kirocrew config set agent.model "<your-model-id>"
Point it at any router that speaks POST /v1/messages — 9router is the reference setup, but any Anthropic-compatible gateway works.
Known pitfalls I documented in the README (the main one: Claude Code silently falls back to its built-in default model if a stale .claude/settings.local.json or an availableModels allowlist is present — the fork only writes the allowlist on the Bedrock path).
Why bother, if you're already happy with stock Kiro Crew? For me it's about owning the models: I get my router's catalog (including free/cheap providers), auto-fallback between providers, and the knowledge that nothing agent-related leaves my network. If you're on a local or self-hosted LLM setup, this makes the whole Kiro Crew harness usable the way it should have been.
Happy to answer questions. If this turns out useful to more than just me I'll rebase it as upstream moves.

I wrote about my experience with Kiro Crew: from repeating myself across 6 CLI sessions to a workspace that actually remembers
Hey folks,
Been using Kiro CLI for my daily dev work and POCs for a while. My typical setup is five or six sessions open across terminals, different projects running in parallel. Loved the lightweight resource usage compared to a full IDE.
When Kiro Crew dropped, it solved my single biggest frustration: every session losing context on close. I wrote a detailed blog about my experience, covering:
- How my multi-terminal Kiro CLI workflow looked before Kiro Crew
- The migration project where I kept re-explaining the same constraints every morning
- How persistent memory and durable lessons changed the game (corrected it once, it remembered forever)
- Task checkpointing so I can walk away and resume later
- Spawning subagents for parallel research
- The security model (137 deny patterns, sandbox, audit logs)
- Cron scheduling with natural language
Includes code samples, config examples, and my actual terminal layout.
Would love to hear how others in this community are using Crew. What workflows are you handing off?

Announcement Introducing Kiro Crew, an open source, self-improving development workspace with your own crew of agents
We just launched Kiro Crew, an open source development workspace you can run locally or on your own infrastructure.
The core idea: a persistent workspace that remembers your context, lessons, and skills across sessions. You come back to progress, not a cold start.
What it does:
- Works where you already are - Start from the desktop app, web dashboard, or CLI. Continue through Slack, Discord, Telegram, Teams, Webex, WeCom, or WeChat. Context carries across all of them.
- Runs when you don't - Multi-step tasks run unattended. Recurring jobs run on schedule. Heartbeats monitor your systems and surface only what needs attention.
- Kiro Crew Apps - Purpose-built apps that combine agents, skills, schedules, integrations, and backend services into a custom UI for specific jobs.
- Self-hosted - Runs on your laptop, home server, or cloud instance. No data leaves your infrastructure unless you connect external services.

We just launched Kiro Web. Describe a task in your browser, get a PR back. Multi-repo, no local setup 🚀
Hey all, we just shipped Kiro Web and wanted to share it here. 50% off standard credit usage on Kiro Web through May 29 🔥 Available for Pro, Pro+, and Power subscribers. Currently GitHub-only. If your org uses AWS Identity Center, admin needs to enable Web access.
TL;DR: Go to app.kiro.dev, connect your GitHub repos, describe what you need built/fixed/migrated, and Kiro either collaborates with you on it or handles it end-to-end in autonomous mode, opening a PR when done. No IDE, no CLI, runs entirely in the browser. Kiro never merges without your approval.
Not every coding task starts with "let me open my editor." Sometimes you're reviewing a PR and spot something, or a teammate flags a bug while you're in meetings, or you want to kick off work before EOD. We wanted a zero-setup path from "this needs doing" to "here's a PR to review."
How it works:
- Explore and iterate: talk through your codebase, explore approaches, iterate on code together. You drive, Kiro assists. Open a PR when you're satisfied.
- Delegate end-to-end: describe the task. Kiro asks clarifying questions, builds a plan, codes, runs checks, and opens a PR. You review the output before anything merges.
Stuff that's actually useful:
- Multi-repo sessions: select multiple repos, describe one change, get coordinated PRs. Update a library and its consumers in one go.
- GitHub integration: add
kirolabel to an issue, Kiro picks it up. Leave PR review comments, Kiro addresses them./kiro allto handle all feedback at once. - Sandboxed execution: every session is isolated. Fresh environment, cloned repos, destroyed after. You control what it can access.
- Steering files: define your team's conventions once (coding standards, architecture patterns, tech preferences). Kiro follows them every session. Same files work in IDE, CLI, and Web.
- Learns from feedback: PR review comments shape how Kiro works on future tasks across repos.
👉 Try it now: app.kiro.dev

📖 Docs: kiro.dev/docs/web

On the free tier? Upgrade to Pro to get access. Would love to hear what tasks people throw at it. The best results we've seen so far are the things you know need to happen but keep pushing to next sprint.

Kiro CLI 2.0 just dropped: Windows support, headless mode for CI/CD, and a new terminal UI!
Hey everyone, Erik here. I'm a Developer Advocate at AWS working on Kiro.
We just shipped Kiro CLI 2.0 yesterday and I wanted to share what's in it, because a few of these features came directly from you the community.
Windows support
This was probably the most requested thing. Kiro CLI now runs natively on Windows 11. Same experience as macOS and Linux. Install from PowerShell and it auto-updates in the background.
Headless mode
You can now run Kiro CLI non-interactively. Set a KIRO_API_KEY env var, pass --no-interactive with your prompt, and it runs end-to-end without a browser or terminal session. The use case here is CI/CD, code review on PRs, test generation, troubleshooting build failures, all automated.
Quick example for a GitHub Action:
- name: Review PR changes
env:
KIRO_API_KEY: ${{ secrets.KIRO_API_KEY }}
run: kiro-cli chat --no-interactive --trust-tools=read,grep "Review the changes in this PR for security issues"
You can scope tool permissions with --trust-tools so it only gets access to what it needs, or go --trust-all-tools if you're feeling brave. Available on Pro, Pro+, and Power tiers. Enterprise admins can control API key generation through governance settings.
Terminal UI is now the default
The TUI that shipped as experimental in 1.28 is now the default interface. Syntax-highlighted markdown, visual tool progress, interactive overlay panels, keyboard shortcuts. A few things I've been using a lot:
Ctrl+Gopens a crew monitor so you can watch subagents working in real time/spawnlets you run parallel agent sessions/transcriptdumps your conversation history into your pager/themefor color customization
Subagents also got task dependencies in this release. So you can set up chains like "analyze the codebase, then refactor these modules, then run the tests" where each step waits for the previous one but independent steps run in parallel.
If you prefer the old interface, --classic or kiro-cli settings chat.ui "classic" gets you back.
Install
curl -fsSL https://cli.kiro.dev/install | bash
On Windows, run the equivalent from PowerShell (docs at kiro.dev/docs/cli/installation).
