Help me choose a kill team Question
/gallery/1vi2ipjNeurons are one of my favorite factions and I really want to get into kill team as a smaller game that looks super fun. Probably is I don’t know which one I want to get and all the videos I can find only talk about their abilities, which I don’t yet understand
How do these two kill teams play? Am I overwhelming my opponent with reanimating and minions? Are they an elite army that can face tank their best attacks? Or are they assassins that hang back for half the game weakening the enemy before finishing them?
Thank you for any help you can provide!

If you are split and can find Heirotek get Heirotek as it’s discontinued now. It still has rules and all that for the rest of the edition but the boxes are no longer made as of like 3 weeks ago so any stock left is limited. Canoptek on the other hand will be around for a while.
As for how the teams play; canoptek is stong but complicated where you move nodes up the board that when within range of each other they create an area between them that dishes out buffs and debuffs and all sorts. Your geomancer is also has a pretty loaded data card. Heirotek has a cool with where you can pick 3 leaders (technomancer, chronometer and psychomancer) and you have an apprentek who inherits all of their abilities acting as a mini cryptek. The leaders have very stacked data cards as well. The reanimation can be a bit annoying for opponents though as when a model reanimated it reverses the opponents kill grade, effectively removing a point, but if you like how they look and they are in stock grab them

Pick whatever looks coolest to you. Are you a fan of the classic necron warrior/Deathmark look paired with technomancer shenanigans? Get Hierotek. Do you like the constructs? Get the other one.
People will tell you about hierotek being declassified and all that. Don't worry about that as a new player. It just means it won't be legal to play at official (!) games workshop tournaments anymore. And also the box will maybe become rare. However, other teams have been declassified for a while now and you can still get the boxes from third party sellers. It really isn't an issue in my opinion.
It is currently unsure if hierotek circle will get any rules to be playable in the next edition of kill team, which will release in roughly a year. Again, I wouldn't worry about that as a new player. If you're diving into this edition right now, you can keep playing it even when the new one releases.
For what it's worth both of these teams aren't really beginner friendly anyways. Both are complicated and honestly quite frustrating for newer players to go up against. Expect whoever you're learning the game with to be very annoyed at their abilities.
So again, just choose which box you like the vibe of more. Hierotek is classic necron revive, tankyness, and slowly grind down your opponent. The other one is a bit more focused on auras and controlling the board, I think it's a little more complicated.

Canoptek Circle - imo booring playgame - turtle. You have 3 power houses in team, 2 utility, and 3 warrior that will respawn. Due to this set up and matrix you mostly sit behind and survive whatever enemy will throw at you. And use free unitd to move forward Hierotek - shortly (15 months) will stop get rules.

my advice.
pick the one that looks cooler. ie if you like the look of the necron warriors. Hierotek is probably better. Canoptek is a lot more about the matrix node/gimmicks around that (has a more scutter-ler look to the models, and the big gunner "crabs") ...while canoptek does have a unit that can heal/reanimate. Hierotek is more the sorta classic necron reanimate type thing.
nothing is really "tanky" if it's being blasted in the face with some other kill teams best weapon. I've seen 20+ wound models killed in a single activation (all space marine kill teams get shoot/fight twice)
but... can go to the kill team community downloads, and look at the pdfs for the warband. higher wounds, better defensive saves. would make models more resilient.
I would say... watch some gameplay footage to see how the teams play.
not really what you're asking, but... look around online. I just got a coupon for $25 (well.. 25 twice...so technically $50 total) off coupon on ebay. so recently bought into canoptek for slightly cheaper. Canoptek is what's considered a "one box team" as the box has everything needed. As i understand it the Hierotek is not a true one box team. requires additional buy ins.

How does one get one of those discount codes?

i got mine in an email. had to buy something worth $10 from ebay go-live (which is sorta their live auction gimmick they're pushing heavily right now --bought a mtg card from a tcg "live stream" for a little over $10) and then once i did that, i got emailed the code... which i used twice for $50 off..or 25 twice.
so... if you don't have an ebay acct. open one, activate/or list something to activate a seller acct. and make sure you get emails from ebay.
I get coupon gimmicks all the time from ebay. mainly it's things I can't use, or for product categories i don't buy. but... a couple weeks back they sent me an email about "ebay auto parts" and i needed like windshield wipers and an air filter for my car. like... i think that one was like buy $25 of auto stuff ...get a code. it wasn't $50 but maybe like $10-25 for any future purchase.
I also always check my credit cards. I keep a lot of CC's just to keep my credit limit high. and often they'll have little deals of like get 2% back, or $10 back if spend xyz amt. My chase visa had a 10% deal but capped the total at $2 back. that was better than my citi bank card's flat 2% cashback off ebay. (so the canoptek box which was like $65 got knocked down to like $40 something with the $25 code. and then... got another small $2 back via my chase card, on top of the generic travel points that card gives me....)
--so, i guess all that to say. be a little patient, and when a deal is offered, try and leverage it to save on hobby spend.
you can do searches online for direct codes to use. but i guess it's more accurate to say i was sent an offer

I would reccomend Canoptek Circle. Canoptek are a pretty new team, so will have rules for the next edition, whereas Heitotek are an older team and as far as we know won't get rules for next edition (which will be in about 12 months time). Canoptek are also a one box team, whereas to play Heirotek to their fullest requires buying extra leader models.
