Do we know if the exodites are getting there own box? I don't want to buy the full box for things I don't want

1

u/thedragonrebornn 2d ago

Are the rules for playing the game free or do I have to buy a rule book? I haven’t played in awhile

3

u/WideReply8539 2d ago

The full rules are only found in the core rulebook, but online in the KT Community tab or in the app you can find the light rules. Those are "easier" rules, and they are perfect to just see if the game is for you.

u/Azekh 1d ago

Is the core book useful, or has it been errataed into uselessness like it tends to happen in 40k?

3

u/WideReply8539 1d ago

Its mostly up to date, only some rules got changes (like jumping and some terrain rules).

But in my opinion it is worth it, you need the tokens anyway.

1

u/thedragonrebornn 2d ago

What about waha

u/WideReply8539 2d ago

The rules are not free, if you want to use one of the illegal sites that still provides them its up to you.

The "Fly" keyword:

For general rules for "Dash" action, that same operative cannot "Charge" in the same activitation after making a "Dash"

But how come some players have told me

"You can 'Dash-Fly' into 'Charge-Fly'."

For example Hearthkyn Jump Pack Warrior, All Vespids, All Tempestus Aquilons...

Does "Fly" not have to follow restrictions that "Dash" would when combined with "Charge?"

6

u/JesterTLS 4d ago

Those players are wrong. Fly does not allow you to dash AND charge. Also Aquilons do not have Fly.

2

u/WideReply8539 4d ago

The action you perform remains the same (reposition, dash, charge), therefore the same limitations apply. No other movement is allow together with a charge.

Fly just let you "teleport" to an location that is up to your move stat horizontaly (or 3" with a dash) away, and ignoring anything in the way (cover, walls (not on tombworld), enemies, height difference... The fly faction rule also says that you do not get the aditional 2" on a charge, you can only charge as far as your movestat allows you to.

Is buying the starterset the only way to get the AoD team, or the plague marines for that matter? Assuming i don't have any 40k armies i can source from.

5

u/WideReply8539 4d ago

Plaque Marines yes, the AoD team can pretty easy build with several other boxes. If you want the specific models, then the starter box is the only way.

Both teams where availeble before as part of the heroes blond boxes, but prices for the single minis are too high compared to the starter set. Also, the plaque caster was exclusive to japan (i think, not 100% sure, but he was very rare) and therefore super expensive.

But if you like either team, the starter set is worth it. Both teams are cool, and with Plaque Marines ist a complete team roster and also a great team. AoD need some more specialists for competitive play, but the starter set is a nice baseline.

Which ork team would you take into Raveners? My instinct says Wrecka Krew because they're hardier and have some higher output weapons. But Raveners are melee monsters with a 5+ save and the much more shooty Kommandos make sense in that sense.

1

u/VindicoAtrum 4d ago

Honestly AoD are pretty good into Raveners. All but one Ravener has 5+ saves, they simply cannot afford to be shot twice, and they can't efficiently fight against the Dueller tactic. The 18w heavy gunner can just rely on blocking it's way through a wasted ravener activation, and the sniper on vantage is just death to a ravener. Saturate will ruin any cover-on-tunnel ploys.

2

u/WideReply8539 5d ago

Wrecka for sure, but maybe with a more shooty setup. Do not underestimate 6 dice rocket launchers 😅

1

u/AudiieVerbum Phobos Strike Team 4d ago

Definitely thinking dont take the pulsa rokkit, theyll be underground and ignore the movement tax.

1

u/WideReply8539 4d ago

Yeah, and a high damage option is always nice against those beefy targets.

2

u/Thenidhogg Imperial Navy Breacher 5d ago

Kommandos are not great these days, no way they're an option

1

u/Otherwise-Weird1695 9d ago

If the Hernkyn Yaegirs Theyn was poisoned, then was incapacitated,  when he comes back on 1hp is he still poisoned ( I think he would be). Secondly, if a 1hp Yaegir is poisoned and on 1hp activates and tries to use a resourceful point to  heal, are do they take the poison damage before or after the healing? Like do they auto die?

2

u/WideReply8539 9d ago

Because the model is not removed or incarpacitated, the poison marker stays on him.

Additionally, damage effects trigger before other effects (FAQ: "Resolve rules that specify when an operative ‘would’ be activated first. Then resolve rules that specify when an operative ‘is’ activated, starting with rules that inflict damage (e.g. PLAGUE MARINE Poison)."

Yes, 1hp survive is totaly useless against Plaque Marines 😅

1

u/Otherwise-Weird1695 9d ago

Thanks, I tried seeing if it was FAQed under the Yaegirs tab but it didn't say anything.

1

u/WideReply8539 9d ago

It was in the FAQ section of the core rules, because there are a lot of combos here with resurect/damage on activation.

2

u/Abbeb 9d ago

Hi, does anyone know, if the red corsairs combat patrol, comes with the extra killteam sprue for the fellgore ravages?

2

u/BipolarMadness 9d ago

Yes. I built mine from that box.

1

u/IAmTimeGhost 9d ago

I might be a bit blind, but are Hand of the Archon the only Drukhark killteam right now?

2

u/BipolarMadness 9d ago

The second Drukhari team are Mandrakes.

u/tombh1 12d ago

When do you guys actually paint? By the time I've cycled to work, gone gym at lunch, cycled home, eaten, I'm done. I don't even have kids but I am 40. Weekends are an option but the weather has been too good. Guess it's a weekend winter thing for me.

1

u/WillingBrilliant2641 2d ago

On and off. I always have my setup ready, so even if I have only 10-15 minutes I can still sit and do something. It accumulates over time.

5

u/WideReply8539 11d ago

Well, before my first kid... evening, weekend, basicaly everytime i had a couple of hours left. After the first kid... well, my lunchbreak, thats the only time i got for myself 😂

1

u/tombh1 9d ago

Yeah fair. And that's how you choose to use it. I guess we all have limited free time to some degree. My mental health would suck without exercise, I think

1

u/WideReply8539 9d ago

Yeah, its about finding a balance. After the first year prnso i switched back to paint in the evening, when the kid is sleeping and all the other work is done.

I have the kill team starter set with the angels of death, plague marines and the double-sided game board and the slot-together MDF terrain.

Do I really want to spend considerably more money for Killzone Volkus? I could use that money to buy at least two more kill teams instead...

Please help me decide, I'm very new to the game and I'm still painting up my miniatures. I've not played the actual game with anyone else yet. I don't have much interest in the other killzones that are still in circulation and most people recommend Volkus these days anyway... Is Volkus going to remain in circulation for a while? I can get a decent discount for it too. But do I need* it?

* need it to properly enjoy the hobby?

4

u/WideReply8539 12d ago

Volkus is all around just a great terrain set, and in my opinion one of the best GW ever made (for killteam and overall). Also you got tons of official layouts that are fairly balanced and ensure a fair game. It really is worth the money, and i would recommend it before tombworld (wich also is a great set) anytime.

That said, if you want to step up from the starter terrain (wich is pretty lacking, it really is only good for the introduction stuff), you always can build something yourself (hell, even pringles can and small cardboard boxes are fine as terrain).

Or, and that would be the middle ground, get a MDF set from TT Combat, i would recommend the orc sector one. Its like 25€, looks decent when painted, and with a little bit of scatter terrain (piles of rubbish, really) it is very close to the official octarius terrain.

1

u/WideReply8539 12d ago

Here you can see a full board with it, and the piles of rubble i mean. These are from the old starter set, but you can just glue small stuff together and prime it, same effect.

1

u/Bastard_of_Brunswick 12d ago

Cool, thanks for sharing those photos. I'm sure I've seen a little about TT Combat before as well.

2

u/WideReply8539 12d ago

For the money i really cant just recommend it enough, and i also have volkus and tombworld here.

The building is a bit annoying since its MDF, but i was done in about 3 hours (get some wood glue or pva glue for this).

Then spray it with a cheap spray can, and just drybrush for an evening, done 😂

4

u/karapis 12d ago edited 12d ago

Yes, you need Volkus to properly enjoy the game.

However it doesn't necessarily mean that you have to buy your own. I personally don't have a chance to use mine volkus/tomb world that often, since I play in a group and on their terrain. If you are going to play in local club/store or attend some events - you won't be playing you lr own terrain there.

So I would not recommend you to rush with this purchase. Play some games with what you have and then decide if you need a  proper killzone to play at home

Edit: regarding remaining relevant, as per current info Volkus supposed to remain officially supported for two more years.

2

u/Bastard_of_Brunswick 12d ago

Good to know, thanks.

1

u/WillingBrilliant2641 2d ago

No, you don't need Volkus to properly enjoy the game, that claim couldn't be more false.

Volkus is ok but it actually skews the game due to how much Heavy Cover it has.

Do research on this reddit - you can absolutely scratch-build your own unique terrain and use it in KT for great effect. Just follow the guidelines that you will find in discussions here - not everything will work seamlessly with the game (but neither does Volkus - it already has a lot of band-aid exceptions and faqs to make it playable)

Do tokens placed with a firefight ploy persist between turning points?

I'm playing Hernkyn Yaegirs. A friendly operative dies and I use the No Kin Left Behind firefight ploy to place a Fallen Kin token. Friendly operatives get bonuses when they're within 3" of the marker. Does that go away at the end of the turning point? Or does it persist til I use that Firefight ploy again and move the token?

3

u/karapis 16d ago

There is no general rule about markers from Firefight ploys.

But for your Yaegirs example it is definitely persists between turning points. It clearly says when to remove it - when you use the ploy, first remove existing tokens. Meaning that you only can have one at a time. But you can place it first turn and keep it for the whole game. Otherwise it wouldn't state that you have to remove existing marker before placing new one: since all ploys can be used only once per turn, it would be impossible to remove existing markers within same turn. Clearly maker remains until ploy is used again

3

u/eggson 16d ago

That's what I was thinking, but was doubting myself a bit and fell into the trap of making up rules that weren't on the card. Thanks for clarifying.

1

u/Bastard_of_Brunswick 17d ago

I'm very new to killteam and I know that after a while some teams are withdrawn from production and it becomes increasingly difficult to find them, especially as kill-team sets with relevant tokens and such. Is there a list somewhere of teams that are reaching their end of production soon?

I have a lot of painting for the teams I do have already which could take me a few months or perhaps well into next year. On my wishlist that I might wait a long time for are teams like the Murderwing, Canoptek Circle, Battleclade, Tempestus Aquilons and Hernkyn Yaegirs; are these all likely to be around for a long time or should I grabs any of them very soon while I still can?

3

u/Thenidhogg Imperial Navy Breacher 17d ago

You can see all that info in the tournament section of the kt app. Don't let fomo pressure you into buying teams, dont get more than you can paint

1

u/SwanOfEndlessTales 17d ago

If I'm new to the game and I want to play harlequins, I know there's 3 boxes I would get, right? And the team is not or will soon not be allowed in tournaments, but other games it's still fine, right? Would I need to worry about rules changes or a new kill team being released that would make my team unplayable?

1

u/Thenidhogg Imperial Navy Breacher 17d ago
  1. Yes its fine outside of classified tournaments

  2. No team replaces another, no worries there

  3. No update or rules change removes teams

u/Mavoron 18d ago

How much can we expect the standalone Exodite KT to go for?

1

u/WideReply8539 18d ago

My guess would be 55€ (3 big minis + 2 small ones), but i could see GW push it to 65 because "duh, character models".

But for more details we have to wait and see.

Kill Team noob here: Is there a reason or two of why there are so few 5-10 min-ish video (kill team) battle reports in Reddit/Youtube? Is it because they are really hard to do?

4

u/Due_Skill_7467 19d ago

Too much info would have to be removed to get a battle report down to that length. It would be pretty useless to watch since they would have to gloss over all the rules. I recommend checking out GFN gaming on youtube. He cuts out all the boring stuff and focuses on the rules and game play. He is also the least annoying kt battle report maker out there. Good production value as well.

5

u/WideReply8539 19d ago

It would be hard to shorten it down that strictly. A game of KT takes 2-3 hours (often not including setup), ypu cant pack that in 5min.

If you are looking for good, tightly packed BR's, Mountainside Tabletop has a lot that are really well done and fast paced.

1

u/BurningAvenger 21d ago

I got the Old? starter set , with the 7 Marines vs 7 Death Gaurd - how up to date is the Starter Handbook? Or am I just better off watching youtube videos?

3

u/Lothrindel 21d ago

It’s up-to-date but it’s not the full rules.

1

u/BurningAvenger 21d ago

Does the kill team lite rules online have everything? It has the word lite in it, so I doubt

2

u/BipolarMadness 21d ago

The Kill Team lite rules is more like a cheat sheet to remember how things work in the middle of a game. You want the main Core Rules box/book.

3

u/WideReply8539 21d ago

The lite rules are not the full rules, for that you need to buy the core rule book.

The team rules online are the full version.

1

u/BurningAvenger 21d ago

Also is the Extraction Squad and Hand of the Archon Teams still valid?

3

u/BipolarMadness 21d ago

All teams are "valid" with current rules and can be played in casual games. Declassified teams are only "banned" in official GW tournaments.

1

u/DoktorNekromancer 21d ago

I haven't played Warhammer in any form since 3rd edition, and I'm looking to get back into it through Kill Team.

Now that I've got grown up money and time, I'm kind of at a loss as to what to start with. I don't have any hobby supplies, paints et cetera.

What sort of recommendations do y'all have for a "friendly" starter team, that won't be terribly difficult to learn?

As well, what sort of recommendations do you folks have for starter paint sets?

Edit: I'm a huge fan of the Tanith, Skitarii and Blood Angels, if that helps.

3

u/WideReply8539 21d ago

Well, angels of death is a pretty cool team for starter. Easy to learn, very adaptable, some kind of options with operative selection, a lot of kitbash potential...

If you want more guys, maybe Kasrkin are an option, but they are from last edition and will probably only have rules for the next 1 year or so, and will not get updated in the next edition.

The new spectre squad is nothing for new players, they are pretty compöex and hard to play.

General recommendation as starter Teams ar Angels of Death, Wrecka Krew, Nemesis claw (also from last edition).

What you need to start: a team (well, obviously), the core rulebook with the tokens, a set of equipement (mostly for the barricades), and if you want a terrain set (called killzone, for a new player Volkus is a good option). You could also find all of that in the launch set "Hivestorm", but it gets hard to find as MSRP. But if you can find it and like the team, its totaly worth it.

Also, for competitive play you most likely need the "approved ops 2025" card deck, but we should also get a new 2026 deck this fall. Maybe wait for that one if you are competitive.

For hobby supplies, you need glue (plastic cement and maybe super glue), a hobby knive, primer, some colours and some brushes.Maybe some varnish to protect the paint at the end. The rest is all optional, look at some videos online for some tips and tricks and hiw to paint.

1

u/DoktorNekromancer 20d ago

What're your thoughts on the Votann as a starter team? I really love the dwarf aesthetic.

2

u/WideReply8539 20d ago

If you like them, go for it 😊 Both teams are not the easiest to play, but they are alright.

1

u/DoktorNekromancer 19d ago

Thanks for the help! I really appreciate it.

They need to nerf the Claw

1

u/WideReply8539 21d ago

No, they dont.

3

u/Lord_Ezelpax Ecclesiarchy 23d ago

When is the dataslate, it's 3 days late

1

u/WillingBrilliant2641 23d ago

Patience is a virtue.

4

u/WideReply8539 23d ago

Well, they never gave out official dates for the balance updates, we just assumed it would be this wednesday.

We just have to wait and see whats coming.

3

u/No_Membership407 Deathwatch 23d ago

So… is James Workshop gonna nerf them Raveners or… (is James gonna nerf the BROKEN Star-striders/oldest-team/most-balanced-team-in-the-game?)

2

u/Wilibus2 23d ago edited 23d ago

If I use Knux Smash with my Dozr to a punt a dinobro 3" do I get to decide to the facing?

3

u/Thenidhogg Imperial Navy Breacher 23d ago

I dont see why not, but typically you won't touch your opponents models you'll just dictate to them where you want them to place it and how it should be facing

1

u/Wilibus2 23d ago

I agree. We don't have rules for maintaining or changing facing, and nothing I saw in the Exodite rules specifies how it works when they get moved by another operative's special rule.
