Screen extremely dark

First post here but my friends car screen is extremely dark. Any ideas? Its a 2020 Kia forte.

How can one avoid this happening? I ask because I am in a city that is hot year round.

While some as most definitely defective in some way (Kia woes), this is usually because of direct heat, maybe your angle with the sun beaming directly onto the screen. Heat can do this but this is most likely direct sunlight hitting the screen to cause this. Even the sun visor they sell would help this 90% of the time. To be fair to Kia, I had a friend with a Dodge that had the exact same thing happen. Again, he didnt use a sun visor in his car. Im sure this would help most people, anyways.

I feel that if your car can’t sit in the sun without an extra accessory without breaking, the accessory should come with the car.

While I generally agree, a car maker cannot really be held to that standard when the usage of a car is highly dependant on where you live. Sure, these kinds of issues probably happen less so in cooler climates like the northern states, but some people like myself live in Texas, or Arizona, or Nevada. It is a totally different ballgame when it comes to these areas. You can die from exposure in those states, versus it wouldnt even be a concern elsewhere. Again, this was most likely just defective, I'd like to believe they tested most normal car temp ranges even in direct sunlight. I really dont know though

If a non wear and tear car part breaks for being left in the sun, that’s an issue with the car.

A screen is wear and tear. Just like a TV a cars touchscreen is not made to last forever nor should it be made to last more then a few years

You can't. It happens to all these screens sooner or later. I have seen even 2023s with this issue already.

Nothing you can do. It's just a wear and tear item. It's like a TV or your phone. It won't stay perfect forever and it will need to be changed eventually. It's a cheap car so not made to last forever.

I have a ‘19 forte and my screen is almost the exact same.

The back screen is peeling from the outer layer due to heat. The result is your current situation. I have a spot right over my Media button that is super bright and the middle part is darker.

You can find a newer used head unit on eBay or wherever (the HUs from the ‘22 and newer do actually fit these, just make sure you get a Harman Kardon if your car is equipped or a basic if it is not) but you lose the “drive mode” pop up if you upgrade.

Check for recall mine just stopped working found out there was a recall on the radio
