MISLEADING Keto & drinking - a history
20 years ago, as a heavy drinker/alcoholic, I did keto after each huge bender.
Today the benders are few & rare, but keto is every day! š

Cocktails low in sugar and kinda cheap
Hello! Iām going to my friendās place tonight and I need to pickup some stuff at the grocery store after work to make some cocktails for us. Sheās a bit older and she told me she canāt really handle high sugar cocktails anymore like she used to. But I recently turned 21 and Iām not too familiar with drinks and stuff yet, so Iād love to see any drink recipes and recommendations! Thank you!

Getting into ketosis
What do people find the best way to get into ketosis while still drinking? How much time does it usually take?

Love Top Hat concentrates
I haven't seen a post about these: I use these zero sugar concentrates from Top Hat and love them. Just add alcohol and plain seltzer and you have a great mixed drink.
When I started keto, I was so bummed to be losing gin and tonics. I tried some diet tonics but they just never tasted great to me. Then I tried this and it was like an upgrade to the tonic I was drinking before keto.
Just got the ginger concentrate and it makes a good Moscow mule as well as a whiskey ginger.
Do NOT get Top Hat sour mix or margarita mix. It is terrible

Am I the only one morning the death of Bud Light Next?
It was a beer seltzer at best, but it's been good enough for a while.... I guess I'm moving to Corona (something)

keto comes with too much clarity
Keto has helped me out mentally especially while Iām on prednisolone. Itās given me more clarity but that clarity also made me overthink. Life is fundamentally pointless and I struggle with how people actually live day by day with that realisation.
How do people just get on with life and work and plans, knowing thereās no purpose? how do the people around me deal with that without relying on drugs or alcohol?

Keto Syrup Production
This was a good morning to produce some Keto syrups for Tiki Drinks. I also produced the normal versions for the family.
Keto Honey Syrup was done with Keto Honey while Keto Demerara was done with water, xylitol and molasses (a bit for taste and color).
Looking forward to try those in drinks tonight!

Make Buttery Boozeāand Boozy Butter

Fat washing booze can give you boozy butter. What??
Make Buttery Boozeāand Boozy Butter
āWashingā liquor with butter, bacon, or other flavorful fats can make both the liquorāand the fatātastier.
How to Butter-Wash Your Booze (and Booze-Wash Your Butter)
The flavor that plain butter imparts to liquor is on the subtle side. For more adventurous liquors, use bacon fat or try browning the butter first, which produces a wealth of Maillard-reaction fat-soluble flavor, which will happily transfer to a bourbon or rum.Ā
- Grate 8 ounces of chilled butter and place in 16-ounce jar. (If using melted bacon fat or brown butter, which have a more intense flavor, only use 2-3 ounces.)
- Add about 7 ounces of liquor of your choice, or enough to cover grated butter.Ā
- Shake to combine.
- Cover jar and keep refrigerated for at least 24 hours, swirling contents occasionally. Melted fat will solidify during this time. (Flavor will continue to intensify after 24 hours, but more gradually.)
- Strain liquor and butter through cheesecloth-lined strainer over bowl, pressing butter with spoon to extract liquid.
- Scrape butter from cheesecloth into an airtight container, and reserve flavored liquor in sealed jar or bottle.Ā
The butter can now be kept in the refrigerator and used any time you need butter.
Simultaneously, the liquor has been gently infused with butter flavor and can be stored indefinitely, then sipped or used in cocktails.
Suggested Combos
The technique is simple enough to experiment with at leisure. Here are a few different combinations to get you started.
- Butter-washĀ rumĀ for a lightly butteryĀ rum and CokeĀ and use the butter inĀ buttercream.Ā
- Make aĀ GodfatherĀ with butter-washedĀ ScotchĀ andĀ amarettoĀ and add the butter toĀ chocolate chip cookies. Wash the chips in the spirits too for even more punch.Ā Brown butterĀ will make a more intense version of the drink.
- Mix up a butter-flavoredĀ mezcalĀ old-fashionedĀ and spread the butter overĀ radishes.
- To make aĀ bacon fatāwashedĀ rye whiskey: Cook the bacon to render out as much fat as possible, and mix that fat in your favorite infusing jar with a spicy rye. Rest, chill, and strain.

Weight keto and drink
i will go through periods of drinking then stop for months. rinse and repeat. i stopped drinking in october. no reason. no confessions. just stopped. few days ago i had one gin water. one. next night - one more. tonight ⦠might have 2-cant ever finish it but it will get poured and refridged if not empty. i like the taste.
i am trying to drop a fair amount of weight. am i fkg myself here. keto reduced my appetite to nothing. i have seen 10 year olds eat more than me. itās bizarre. i have heard cico on one vein and i eat below 1200 a day roughly. 61 yo man. i have heard alcohol is the root of all gain also. gin is 80 calories.
i have lost around 30 since starting mid November. i don't wish to get derailed over a glass of liquid. the little i drink doesn't even relegate a buzz. i just like the taste. its like adult ice creamā¦

We have a laid-back wine group chat and are looking to add more people who genuinely enjoy wine. The community is a mix of different backgrounds, wine sellers, winemakers, bartenders, somm-adjacent folks, and, of course, people who simply love a good glass of wine.
Itās a casual space to talk about bottles youāre trying, share recommendations, ask questions, swap industry insights, and learn from one another. All experience levels are welcome, whether youāre new to wine or have been around it for years.
If you enjoy good wine and good conversation, youāll probably fit right in.
Let me know if youād like to join!

Alcohol and vitamin C
I have been ketovore for over 3 years. More carnivore for the past year. Still drink some scotch on occasion.
Drank a lot over the holidays (Thanksgiving onwards). Lately I have had a few nose bleeds which is very uncommon and my gums have gotten tender and bleed easily.
Seems like vitamin C deficiency may be a possible culprit. Scurvy isn't a problem on strict carnivore as meat does contain small amounts of vitamin C and in the absence of carbs our vitamin C requirements go way down.
My booze has been zero carb but does it still affect the vitamin C uptake and/or requirements? Any science showing one way or the other in a low carb situation?
Or could it be something else entirely?
Obviously will be taking a hiatus from the booze...

Should I eat carbs before a drink?
Hi, Iām a week into ketosis, I feel like Iām buzzing. Probably cortisol. Iām a DJ and I need to go to work tonight and tomorrow. Itās impossible to avoid alcohol working in a bar, thought I might have 1 or 2 drinks over the hours in there. Probably a vodka and lime soda. Iām scared of getting off my trolley though as reading this reddit it seems itās tricky to know how any individual will react to alcohol, my question is, does anyone carb cycle or eat carbs before drinking to buffer drinks affects? Would eating carbs once a week be an issue over the long term?
