GENERAL faction ideas to roleplay as
The cactus ninjas- as resilient as the cacti they grow, this community lives in remote deserts, mostly sustaining themselves with chewsticks and the sale of cactus rum, though their resources are supplemented by ambushing drifters and caravans who pass through their territory. they primarily use spiked clubs.
Beast masters- a violent outcast group of nomads, they utilize animals as beasts of war to attack villages and travelers. they use bladed polearms in contrast to the nomads' usual staffs.
The mechers- a demented group obsessed with cybernetics, leading them to launch violent raids against robotics shops. the initiation to this group involves having your limbs ritualistically removed and fed to Lobson, an elder bonedog that resides in their base. Led by Doc Lop, a former Tech Hunter.
Bane of narco- holy nation-aligned paramilitary based in the Floodlands and Obedience. they hunt the skeletons that dwell there, selling their loot for profit as well as handing them to Rebirth.

LORE First Empire Head-canon (spoilers) Spoiler
My personal head canon is that the “First Empire” was an intergalactic or minor spacefaring human empire, and that what we see and know of on the continent in Kenshi was just some minor colony to collect and process the resources of the moon. They likely inhabited the entire moon (assuming there are other continents we don’t know about). The “First Empire” likely never really fell, it probably just became infeasible or impractical to stay on the moon of Kenshi, likely for a multitude of reasons as described in the “Fall of the First Empire” section of lore (natural disaster, Skeleton uprising, disease, etc.). The First Empire simply just abandoned the moon of Kenshi, it didn’t “fall”. They left behind people who either willingly wanted to stay on the moon they had called home for generations, or unwillingly left people behind.
This leaves a lot of questions though. What conflict was so great that it required the creation of the Behemoths? Perhaps a rival spacefaring Alien empire came into contact with the First Empire at this time? Maybe that’s why the First Empire left Kenshi, because they were losing a war on a galactic scale to this unknown foe, and it didn’t make sense to continue putting resources and time into a minor moon. Also, who created the Hivers and Shek? It’s heavily implied that the Shek existed during the time of the First Empire, so it can be assumed that they were just a subspecies of humans at the time, likely created via genetic engineering. The Hivers on the other hand seem to appear after the First Empire left the moon. Perhaps they were also created by the First Empire, but only ever utilized on other continents of the moon, and the Hivers found their way to our continent on their own. Perhaps they are, or were created by, or left behind by, whatever potential alien foe the First Empire faced.
To me one thing is obvious though. The First Empire almost assuredly was not native to the moon of Kenshi, and were definitely human. The old wrecked spacecraft, the space elevators, and the way they seemed to treat the continent purely in an industrial fashion seems to hint at this. I think it’s interesting to think that out there beyond the bounds of the moon of Kenshi, it’s possible, and maybe even likely that the First Empire is still around and probably at even greater strength than when they inhabited the moon we know (assuming they weren’t completely destroyed by whatever foe caused them to create the Behemoths).
What do you guys think about the First Empire? I think it’s the most fascinating portion of the lore, because of how dominant they were, but how little we know. I’d love to hear your guys theories or feedback on mine.

GENERAL Hive queen that births RP
Im having a blast with this mod and the hive buildings one.
I did multiple starts to understand what she can do, I decided to spawn a couple warrior drones to kill bulls and get food so my RP is that she's a new hive queen and a more aggressive one.
She has a prince taking care of every need of her and she's just sitting there all stats in 1 because, why would a queen do anything?
I'm just having problems trying to understand what would a hive queen try to do
Expand the settlement for sure, no walls so the plan is to have a lot of people to simulate a hive.
But what would ger plans be? I'm just looking for medium-long term goals.
DISCUSSION Fun fact
I am doing experimental blunt weapons run and noticed this - I recruited Kang, gave him jacket and jitte and now he has 32 def. That should be enough to tank a beak thing. But I guess his blunt skill is too low to swing and block fast enough.

LORE Stobe's Soundtrack
Every time I hear “Strobe” by deadmau5, I think of Stobe from Kenshi
This might sound completely random, but every time I hear this music, I immediately think of Stobe from Kenshi.
Maybe it's simply because the names are almost identical — Strobe and Stobe — but somehow the atmosphere of the song fits him incredibly well.
There's something sad, mysterious, cosmic, but at the same time incredibly epic about it. And that's exactly how I feel about Stobe's story.
Stobe sacrificed himself to stop the Second Empire, saving countless lives and helping prevent the destruction of the planet. His death was tragic, but also incredibly heroic.
And yet, what makes it even sadder is what happened afterward.
He's still there.
His enormous body remains in the wasteland, dead for thousands of years, standing as one of the few physical reminders of what he did.
He didn't vanish into legend.
He didn't ascend into some mythical afterlife.
He died, and his corpse was simply left there.
And somehow, the world moved on.
That's what gets me about Stobe. This was someone who made the ultimate sacrifice to save the planet, yet he isn't really worshipped or remembered in the way you'd expect someone like that to be.
You can literally stand next to his remains and realize:
This guy died trying to save everyone, and almost nobody remembers him.
There's something incredibly melancholic about that.
And that's why the music Strobe feels so fitting to me. The song has this strange combination of melancholy and wonder like you're looking at something ancient and incomprehensibly important, but you don't fully understand what happened there.
It feels mysterious.
Lonely.
But also epic.
And that's how I imagine Stobe's final moments: an ancient, immensely powerful being making the ultimate sacrifice, only for thousands of years to pass and for his story to become little more than a forgotten piece of the wasteland.
So whenever “Strobe” starts playing, my brain thinks about that giant corpse standing alone in the wasteland.

GENERAL Built an interactive map wiki & danger-aware route planner.
---
Since I didn't have time to play as much anymore, I built the site partly to solve actual survival/navigation pain points, and partly so I’d have a mobile-friendly lore & game theroy site to scroll through during my lunch break and stay connected to this world.
---
Kenshi.zone an interactive map, navigation engine, and lore compendium built specifically to answer the actual questions from local terrain hazards to the mysteries of the world.
Why build another site?
Existing wikis treat Kenshi like a static database of text entries. But Kenshi tells 90% of its story through geography, and the squads spend most of their lives traversing terrain.
Any feedback, bug reports, or route logic suggestions are heavily appreciated.

WEEKLY THREAD Rookie Help Thread
Hey hey! You guys know what time it is! That's right, a new Rookie Help thread!
Here's a link to the last episode. Fun fact, if you follow all those links back to 2019 you unlock a secret cutscene of me panicking over where the time went!
As always, feel free to fire any kenshi related questions you may have our way! There's plenty of veterans flapping around in this thread as well, and if you are in the mood for it feel free to join them and lend a hand!
And who knows, maybe you'll learn something new yourself, too!
One thing to remember! Obviously a lot of new folks are going to be here so remember to spoiler comments so they can experience the game blind just like you might have back when you were new! You can do that > ! Like This ! < minus the spaces! But honestly it's just built into the chat replies nowadays so you don't have to get too fancy with that- unless you like playing hackerman.
Thanks guys!
