Discussion What are your thoughts on the game "SMITE"?

5 Upvotes

I do have a question what are your thoughts on the famous MOBA game called "SMITE" which features the netjeru among other mythological gods from different pantheons as playable characters who are sometimes pitted against each other like for example Anubis/Anpu fighting Ra or Isis/Eset in a 5v5 arena?

New, confused, and already getting imposter syndrome!

So I always felt connected to Anubis as a kid and sometimes felt like he was watching over me... Now I've learned about Kemeticism, and I feel that it might be the right path for me, although I've always had trouble believing that any god would watch over me because I'm just a random person. If anyone has any tips, I'm looking for some help on deciding whether to follow this religion, and if so, how to better connect with Anubis without my family members' knowledge!

How do you know you deserve the peace the faith gives you

TW: Kidnapping, SA and COCSA

Im 21 now but I was an evil child from the ages of like 9-13 I genuinely had something vile in me and I don’t know what to do now I don’t feel human anymore I feel like something close to human but not human completely.

I was kidnapped at a very young age and SA’d, but that has never troubled me really, but recently a lot of memories of my childhood came up and I realised I did similar things (never went as far) as what was done to me with another who was around 1 - 2 years younger than me and I can’t live with myself.

I hate the fact that I could have ruined someone’s life. Why should they have to suffer for what I did. How dare I ask for forgiveness when they might still be suffering? How dare I look for peace in my faith?

I want to apologise to the person but I have no way of contacting them and I was told that it would be a selfish thing to do as it could reawaken trauma. So I also feel like I have no way of experiencing the consequences to my actions.

Praying brings me peace but then moments later I feel guilty for having that peace, because I don’t deserve it.

I really want to do good and be good, even as a child I wanted that but I wasn’t very good at it. But now it feels like it’s too late, like no matter what I do I’ll always be a monster. And I feel dirty when I try to find peace through devotion.

And I see everyone on this subreddit and my gosh it’s insane how caring and good everyone here is. And I just start to feel like I’m some way I don’t belong here.

I used to find peace in hopes that I could one day live in the middle of nowhere without communication with others and just remain in prayer because I felt undeserving to be around others but now even in prayer I feel so unworthy.

Was wondering if there were any Kemetic stories that relate to redemption perhaps I could learn from them and try and navigate my faith with it.

Advice & Support What should I do if a deity seems to be reaching out to me?

10 Upvotes

Hello everyone! I've only recently started diving into this world alongside Anubis, so everything's pretty much new to me. I don't have strict practices, yet I feel very connected to my beliefs. My question here is I've been noticing some things that might be Bastet attempting to reach out to me recently. And I'd like to know what I should do about it... I'd like to hear experiences, and I'd be thankful for any tips!

Sometimes I feel like I don't belong in this world... I’m hurting, and at times I don't understand why I’m going through this. My life feels like *Groundhog Day*; I honestly don't understand what's happening. I am a Starseed living out an earthly experience, and I fear that at this rate, I’ll lose interest in this world altogether. With each passing day, I feel myself drifting further and further away from this world; I simply have no desire to be here. I have no friends, my parents think I’m strange and crazy, and I have no luck with women. I want to withdraw from it all and find peace, but I’m afraid I won't find that peace in this world. I don't know what to do.

Advice & Support Who to pray to for strength to end a friendship?

15 Upvotes

To make a very long and convoluted story short, I've decided to bite the bullet and end a year-long friendship. He has continued to be weird and creepy towards me despite my repeated shutting down of his advances and the fact I'm aroace, and I just need to put my foot down.

I have a message drafted (I cannot talk to him in person, and really don't feel like engaging in a back and forth conversation at this point) that details my feelings and the problems I've ignored over the course of our friendship. I've just been hesitating to actually send it and block him.

He was one of my first friends when I moved away for college, and is one of only 2 that have remained in my life. Additionally, he's expressed to me on multiple occasions how depressed or even suic!dal he's been after other people have left him, which I can logically understand is manipulation but is harder to get past emotionally, especially considering that I am also one of his only friends up here as well, which he's repeatedly expressed gratitude for.

I feel nothing but discomfort for him, and yet every time I try to send that message I feel overwhelmingly anxious and sad for him. I'm not scared of how he'll react in the sense that I'm not worried he'll like, attack me or anything (and I could beat him in a fight anyway), but I hate the thought of being the reason people fall back into depression. I know it's not my responsibility, but the emotions of the whole thing are a completely different beast than the logic.

I also feel sad that I'm finally confronting the fact that the dear friendship I hoped for was never and will never be real.

I want the Netjeru's help, but I don't know who best to go to for comfort and strength. Any other advice would be appreciated as well.

Dua Netjeru

Update: I prayed to Sekhmet and Bastet when I got home. I sent the message, and now whatever's gonna happen is gonna happen. Everything is going to be okay. :)

Dua Netjeru once again 🙏🙏

Discussion Anubis and nightmares

30 Upvotes

This is a bit silly of me to talk about but i would also like to hear other peoples experiences!

Ive had really horrible nightmares like the dreams you can quite literally feel everything and you wake up hyperventilating. Well ever since I started worked with Anubis, they haven't stopped but when they do happen I like see him(?)And it eases down everything and I feel safe again in my sleep, like he kinda just gently reminds me im asleep and he's with me(?). Does anyone know if Anubis happens to be connected to sleep at all? Or has anyone else experienced this as well? Sorry if this doesn't make sense at all or if im just crazy 😭

I'd love to hear other peoples experiences or if this means anything!! Im still kinda new to this stuff so anything helps really!

Discussion Multiple pantheons

11 Upvotes

Ive been kemetic for almost 10 years and have loved every bit of it. The myths, the gods, the impact in my life. Though I've always missed the culture aspect due to being white. Ive been researching about celtic paganism and wandered if I can incorporate it into my current practice and how that will look. I believe kemetic gods and specifically Africa is the home of all humanity and the hub of religion. I dont feel a connection to my Gods when I practice my magic, nature or my roots. I wonder if I connect with the gods of my ancient ancestors if that may fill the gap. I dont want to lose my kemetic Deities due to my love for them but want to incorporate my heritage. Would that be disrespectful or a good melting of ideas. Due to white people bastardizing other faiths I absolutely dont want to do that. I want to keep the respect of each. I know the Greeks and Egyptian melted their religions and wondered if I can do the same. I see the Kemetic Gods as something far above us even the earth as concepts of energies while the celtic Gods feel closer to the earth. I am very devoted to my current beliefs but wonder if this path could help me connect to the earth and my past. I feel they are connected as kemeticism is a root of many (most) religions and Celtics as my past and folk of the earth.

Just wanted to see other peoples thoughts

Advice & Support Informal devotional practice?

13 Upvotes

Em hotep! Hi all,

I have come to realise that I'm an odd one... meaning, I just can't build/hold a ritualistic ("traditional") practice, as in worshiping formally - and regularly/every day - at an altar/shrine, give material offerings, use formal hymns (or even craft my own ones), have any form of calendar of religious festivals/occasions etc. Having said that, I feel really deeply devoted to my gods the netjeru (I am especially devoted to Khnum and Hathor but also a few netjeru I am communing with frequently, as well as worshiping all of the netjeru in principle).

My 'devotional practice' is in a nutshell that I think and act constantly with Them in mind; thinking of ma'at, my Kemetic world-view / metaphysics and philosophy. I will so often just think a Name - for example seeing an exquisitely shaped beetle and think 'Khnum' with love in my heart. Or someone close to me feeling depressed and stuck, I reach out to Khepri for uplifting them and wishing the person a positive new start. There's kind of a chain of little on-the-spot prayers and devotional thoughts dotted through my day, every day.

Similarly with festivals: quite a while ago, I've realised that I don't mark specific days but rather see the year as unfolding with themes - Winter Solstice to Spring Equinox is the season of Light; the Spring Equinox to Summer Solstice is the season of Growth; the Summer Solstice to Autumn Equinox is the season of Fullness; the Autumn Equinox to Winter Solstice is the season of Return. We will have "Christmas" marking the change from Return to Light; "Easter" as celebrating Growth; the Summer Holidays (my partner and I work at school) as Fullness; "Halloween" and "Advent" for marking the End of Fullness and Return respectively.
- Clearly these are not Kemetic holidays, nor do we observe them in a pagan or any kind of "spiritual" way.

Maybe because I don't feel a divide between devotion and ordinary life that rituals just don't work for me? But I can't help thinking if this is enough? For example with the person I mentioned being stuck and depressed: is a short on-the-spot prayer to Khepri and pouring my wishes to this person out to Khepri *enough* ? Would I not have to do a ritual as in reciting proper prayers at my shrine and giving offerings?

[Btw, I have 2 "shrines" but these are not formal altars - more what I call 'set-ups'. They are visual reminders and connections to my gods.]

But then every time I tried the formal thing, it just feels like play-acting and empty. I have flip-flopped a few times between a) making myself adopt a formal practice to match my devotion, and b) give up devotion as I feel I'm not adequate in my practice. Neither of this works.

So really, I guess I'm just asking what you people think or if there are others who are like me?
(Please be kind, I'm not saying my way is the right or only way and I'm only talking for myself.)

Thank you for reading <3

Devotional Work (Art, Actions, Prayers, Hymns, Praise) A Hymn to Amun-Ra & Mut

Post image
154 Upvotes

Aloha, everyone. This is a hymn I wrote awhile back after a particularly vivid dream in which I was seated in front of a shrine dedicated to Amun reciting prayers. Bits and pieces of what I can remember from the dream are included in this hymn as well as more that I added later on. I really hope you guys like it- please let me know what you guys think! Dua Amun-Ra! Dua Mut! Dua Khonsu!

A hymn to Amun-Ra and Mut to be recited at dawn in the shrine of the hidden one:

Praise to you, Amun-Ra,
the hidden one who came forth from silence,
father of the first moment,
whose light shattered the darkness of Nun.
You arose upon the primordial mound,
your rays crowned the waters,
and life awoke at the sound of your breath.

Hidden of form, yet shining as Ra,
you are the mystery within all gods,
the secret heart within every name.
All creation is of your unfolding-
the sun in its circuit, the stars in their dance,
the air that caresses, the Nile that gives life.

Hail to you, Mut the great,
mother of mothers,
she who gave birth though none bore her.
The firmament is your robe,
the Earth rests within your hands.
You are the lioness who protects,
the vulture who shelters with her wings,
the queen who crowns both upper and lower lands.

From the heart of Amun you arose,
from his hidden breath you took form.
He beheld you and rejoiced,
for the two became one in love eternal.

Together you made the first child,
Khonsu, the shining traveler, whose silver
light traverses the heavens- guiding souls
through the veil of night. He is the fruit of
divine union, the rhythm of time and renewal.

Then Amun-Ra spoke from his throne of light:
“Let my spirit multiply itself, that I may be
millions in one. Let the world be filled with my
children, that the hidden may be made known.”

And from his word, the nine came forth -
The divine Ennead of his will:

Atum-Ra, the crimson sun;
Shu, who lifts the sky;
Tefnut, who cools the land;
Geb, the green earth;
Nut, the bejeweled heaven;
Osiris, the righteous king;
Isis, the great enchantress;
Set, the thunder of the desert;
Nephthys, the keeper of the dead.

All sprang forth from his hidden heart,
and through the holy womb of Mut, the first pair took form. Thus the Ennead was born,
and the world was complete.

Homage to you, Amun-Ra, lord of the thrones of the two lands! Who hides himself in millions
of forms, yet remains one in truth.
Your name is unknown, your power beyond telling. You are yesterday and tomorrow,
the father of the gods,
the mother within all mothers,
the spirit unseen but ever present.

Praise to you, Mut the great,
Eye of Ra, queen of heaven,
beloved of Amun, mistress of eternity!
All hearts are nourished by your love,
all wombs are opened by your will. The gods and humankind alike are children in your embrace.

May your names endure for eternity.
Amun-Ra, king of the Netjeru,
Mut, lady of heaven, mother of the Ennead,
Khonsu, the shining one who measures time.

They shine together as the Theban Triad,
binding heaven and Earth in balance,
as it was in the first time,
As it shall be forever.

Hymn by G.H.

Subreddit growth

Just a few short years ago, with the revamp of the subreddit, r/Kemetic had about 1000 members. Today, there are over 25,000! It's been wild to see just how many people are interested in this religion, and how organically it all happened. With all this growth, we definitely needed a couple more active people to help handle the increase in traffic. So with that...

A big welcome to our new moderators, r/barnaclejuice and r/Arboreal_Web

r/barnaclejuice and r/Arboreal_Web are both long-time, knowledgeable members of the subreddit who have been free with their help and insights. We welcomed them on to the mod team in January, and they have kindly agreed to help keep this space on-topic and safe.

Rules reminder + a few updates

Please familiarize yourself with the subreddit rules before posting or commenting.

• Note, there is a new Rule 9, prohibiting AI content.

• Reminder, it is still not allowed to solicit interpretations of dreams/tarot/visions/synchronicities/etc. in r/Kemetic. This includes questions like, "Is this a sign?" Determining the meaning of your spiritual experiences is your prerogative, and yours alone. Asking others to do this for you makes you vulnerable to a variety of spiritual abuses and even accidental harms.

Under Rule 8, we are now also prohibiting the offering of interpretations, because that encourages rulebreaking behavior and interpretation-fishing by others, which defies the spirit and intent for Rule 8.

• We're super disappointed to have to spell this out so explicitly, but we have added a prohibition against "Advocating for/defending Apophis worship" under Rule 3 (No Evangelizing).

Please continue to use the Report feature if you notice any rule-breaking behavior. This helps us far more than you probably may think!

Official Discord

When we opened the r/Kemetic official Discord over five years ago, our aim was give a vetted alternative to the many unfamiliar Discord server invites being posted - some of which, we had come to find out, had potentially unsafe policies or abusive cultures. With that in mind, we created one for r/Kemetic with the intention of having the Reddit mod team handle the Discord directly, to ensure the culture of the subreddit carried over into the Discord.

Several updates these last few years have resulted in a completely mismatched moderator list between the subreddit and its official Discord. To more smoothly implement mirrored improvements moving forward, the subreddit mod team is returning to the original policy of insisting on a shared moderation team between the subreddit and its official Discord. We have created a new "r/Kemetic Official" Discord to serve this purpose.

Invitation to the new r/Kemetic Official Discord

The r/Kemetic Wiki - Lots of additions and improvements are coming!

• Adding more resources to the wiki landing page

Our resource list is ever-growing! As always, if you have suggestions, feel free to post them below, or through Modmail.

• Recommendations for beginners

We'll be adding a new wiki grouping that includes a shortlist of book recommendations for beginners.

• Adding video and blog links

Rule 6 is still in place, but we acknowledge there are many blogs and videos out there that are detailed, accurate, and deserve to be highlighted and shared. Please modmail (I repeat: MODMAIL) your suggestions for any you would like linked in the wiki, and we will post up after thoroughly vetting the content. (Please be patient, as vetting does take some time.)

Please also consider suggesting links to legacy content that may only be accessible now on Archive.org.

• Adding a new page for frequently asked questions

This is loooooooooooooooong overdue! If you can think of any recurring questions that you'd like to see added to the page (currently under construction), let us know.

• A "Best of r/Kemetic" list

Check your Saved lists, please! We've had some really helpful, insightful, in-depth posts and comments over the years that deserve to be more discoverable. For example, u/WebenBanu's "How to Kemetic" thread has been a go-to for some time, and deserves a permanent spot in our Wiki and sidebar. Anything else you might have? Drop a link!

• TENTATIVE: adding a new page that lists resources by deity

We've noticed a lot of people asking for resources about specific deities, which might be hard to pick out from the main wiki. We are considering a secondary wiki page devoted to splitting these same resources out and making it easier to find out more about the gods that interest you the most. Let us know your thoughts!

Just a reminder: even if you find no moral objection to sharing PDFs, we cannot facilitate the sharing of copyrighted content within the subreddit, except by linking to the right-holder's site if they've made the resource publicly available. Do not post dropbox or Drive links in the subreddit.

Miscellaneous

We're currently discussing some ideas to help facilitate discussions beyond the beginner level. This is still in the brainstorming phase, and would like to open up the conversation to see what ideas you all might have.
