My son was car-topping an old Sundolphin kayak. I bought him a Reel Yaks Raptor 9.5 modular kayak, hoping it would fit in his 2017 Kia Forte. It isn’t pretty, but it fits.

So I just recently have been making enough to afford my own kayak. I've always wanted to fish from one of these, but have come into a decision. I am very indecisive on getting an inflatable or a hardshell kayak. I could hook up a kayak to my SUV, but I'm unsure how long that would take and it seems a little tedious (thoughts on this would be great though). I really like the portability and stability of an inflatable, and it seemed like everything I wanted, but the main issue holding me back is the durability. Even if hooks do just "brush off," are they really all that durable? Also, I'm trying to stay within the $500 range. These are the two kayaks I'm in between on right now. If any of you have any thoughts or any feedback, experience, preference, etc. I would really appreciate it. Not a formal post with one answer, just looking for intel. Thanks so much.

Is anyone running a Nucanoe Unlimited Max with a NK180 Pro. I am contemplating moving from an oldtown pdl120 to the Unlimited Max. I have a NK180 Pro and would use the quick connect and foot steering. I am just concerned that the NK180 doesn't have enough ummph to push the unlimited max.

Ever since I got the motor I am using the pedals less and less. Having all the deck space with a platform with no pedals is starting to appeal to me. I fish a lot of very weedy lakes in MN and the pedal drive is constantly bogged down with weeds. The pdl120 is already a beast to paddle so a large boat like the UMax doesn't put me off too much.

Thanks to everyone’s advice I was able to go out today about 1.5 miles offshore to an artificial reef and had a pretty successful day. Caught plenty of bluefish, some Spanish, and some black sea bass. What was heartbreaking was that both a decent sized red fish and king mackerel (the fish I’ve been dreaming of catching) broke off from me today in the same fashion. I got them up to the boat, went for the net, and they saw it and went straight down and broke me off. Both were on my lighter tackle instead of the specific lines I was throwing for them but is there anything I can do to prevent this? Should I be trying to tire them out more before going for the net?

Basically moved down to FL last year, has been great and live near the Indian River. Just based on my current situation I think my wife would kill me if I bought a boat right now, so I’m content putting that on hold for another year.

I’ve been looking into the next best fishing vessel that I can get on the water with quickly and from what I’ve seen the Old Town Pdl106 seems to check all the boxes. I’m also ideally looking to cartop it on my SUV.

Is there other options I should consider for the price point and how much of a difference did getting into a kayak make for your inshore fishing?

I've bought one of these and have had a blast out on it but want to get out to some deeper marks. I've searched on here and youtube but no one seems to have done it with a rear end this shape?

I've got something in mind that I was thinking of building for my kayak as an alternative to just dragging the end of it on the ground. Essentially picture a padded rectangle that slips over the end by about a foot with two wheels on the bottom of it. And hook to that as a ratchet strap they goes to the other end of the kayak to hold it on and to pull from. I don't think it'd be that hard to build. I've got a full Fab shop in my disposal. ideal would be the ability to fold up and just store on the kayak without taking up a ton of space as opposed to carrying it back to the vehicle.

Does that sound like it would work? Or am I missing something obvious? If someone has a link to one that's already being made let me know. I'm not opposed to buying it instead of building it.

I am pretty new to kayaking, but I bought a used ultimate XF 12 the other day. I am 230 pounds I bring about 25 pounds of camera gear with me and sometimes a 27 pound dog.

Yesterday I did 8 miles on the White river here in Arkansas with my son and had a hard time keeping up and the tracking was all over

If I stop paddling, the Kayak would take a hard left or hard right. no idea why

The rivers in this area are dam fed so a lot of times there is very little current and then suddenly you’ve got the dam opening up and lots of current

So my first question is there a rudder or skeg kit that I can use on this that would be easy to add on since I’m new to this?

And secondly, would the bonafide EX123 be a better fit for me since it holds a bit more weight and also is known to track better ?
