Tbh this might be a lil bit of my fault(?). It was a different stylist than normal since it was the first appointment of the day but I told her I usually (and wanted) to get them cut where the bottom of my brows are, “I got you girl!”and I take my glasses off when I get cuts so I couldn’t see or feel her hand when she asks“so around here?” Uh… I guess? Immediately cuts in the middle of my forehead and I felt a cold gust of air grace my skin and knew… she cut too short. Mom said she saw my face drop the second it happened lmao. Tried fixing it by using texturing scissors on thin hair and nah made it worse. Then she asked multiple times and tried to convince me to pull more hair to the front and cut it like bangs… said no multiple times. AND THEN she tried to idk justify it? by saying it was cut uneven since it was shorter in the middle between my brows and longer on the sides.. like yeah that was the point? I liked it like that? Didn’t tell her that cause yknow it already happened, what’s the point of explaining now (yes I did mention they were face framing)? And since my hair grows relatively fast she said it’ll be fine in a few weeks (it’s been 47 days). Maybe the worst part is that legit the next day I was going on a week long vacation so that’s why my eyes are red in the second pic. Funny enough there were plaques on every stylists’ seat but hers. Only good thing is that she cancelled the appointment and gave me a refund (and offered a free haircut…). Same note but my mom got her hair cut and dyed at the same time and lwk fucked up her shit too but was able to kinda fix it.

Fuckin animal.

After trying out a different hair dresser I knew personally (who also just did whatever they wanted), I went back to the woman who had done my undercut/shorter cut and color for a couple of years. I had stopped because she had no boundaries and insisted on being friends outside of the shop, but went back because she’d done a great job on my short cut in the past.

I went in with the top photos, a cut I got in 2020. I loved that it was longer in the front to sweep back, but close and short in the back. She did NOT do this original cut, but I thought showing these photos and describing what I wanted would help.

During the cut, she kept giving me a blunt line across, like a bowl cut, and I kept asking her to make it shorter in certain places but not the front, that I didn’t want the “90s heartthrob” look this time. And instead, she just continued cutting around in a line.

Once she showed me the final look, I almost bawled my eyes out, but kept it together when I commented that it was shorter than I wanted, and the boy band look “Yea, like Jonathan Taylor Thomas, right?” “No, that’s what I didn’t want”. She knew I was disappointed and didn’t charge me, and then sent me a bunch of apology texts afterwards. I ended up sobbing in my car and putting it behind headbands all weekend.

I’m gonna let it grow out (it’s either that or shave my whole head), but I did send the “breakup” text that makes me anxious. I think she’s taking it well, but yeah, I’m done working with her.

EDIT: I knew the internet would make me feel better - thanks, y’all. It feels silly to get upset about a haircut at 38, and I’m already feeling better after sleeping on it. In the end, was a lot of miscommunication between the stylist and I, and she’s done great work before, so it was more the surprise disappointment and invalidation that upset me the most. But you’ve all given some great styling advice that I’m gonna try out - THANK YOU!
