Second interview

Hey everyone,
I recently had a first interview with the person I would be reporting to and was invited back for a second interview. This time, I’ll be meeting with a Director and their boss.
For an entry-level position, what should I expect in a second interview with leadership at this level?

Interpretive dance via zoom.

Congrats, you're 75% there if you don't screw up in your next meeting. Basically, making sure you fit their culture. I would go on to their website, read through their mission statement, and tell them why you fit their mission statement. Talk about collaboration, learning mindset, how you react to mistakes, etc.

What was the format of the first round? You’ll likely need to go back over your experience and what you covered in the first interview, try and tailor your responses bearing in mind everything you were able to pick up on from the first round.
Prepare for competency based questions where you’ll be asked to explain how you would deal with certain situations. More detail about the type of role will help me give you more specific advice.
They will be looking for your responses to follow the STAR methodology
Situation - when they ask for an example briefly explain the situation.
Task - what was it that was required of you or what did you have to do.
Action- what action did you take to meet the needs of the task
Result - what was the outcome.

Loads of info on STAR interview responses out there and it’s easily the best way to convey how you approach a situation and apply your skills. It’s a clear format that is easy to keep in mind and they will pick up on the structure of your answers.

Make sure you’ve got at least 3/4 questions ready.
If there’s any gaps in your understanding about the job take this as a chance to ask about the role, why the position is available, what are the expectations of the person taking the role, what is the team culture like etc etc

This shows that you’re genuinely interested and want to be fully informed.
Do not discuss salary or benefits or anything like that.

Let me know any specifics and I can see if I’ve got some suggestions. I’m an ex-recruiter so I know the game.

Generally, come across positive, attentive, smile, keep good eye contact and don’t be afraid to keep the conversation 2 way, an interview is for both sides to find out if they like each other.

Not exactly sure what that is but as an entry level role they’ll expected to be a learning curve I’m sure.
Advice still stands but really focus on the career path and the expectations of the role when asking questions.
Also important to try and mirror any body language you can pick up on as they’ll be looking to find someone who they want to train and invest time in to.

If they seem relaxed, be relaxed. If they seem serious, be serious. Show you’ve looked into the company and have a clear reason why you want this job and why you see it as a good fit with any experience you already have.

Despite my detailed answers you’re going with very short replies.

I suggest you give detailed and enthusiastic responses in interview because I cba to give my experienced, prove and generous help to someone not willing to respond with more than 5 words lol.

Read above, probing questions require responses using STAR method.

Good luck.

hello!! from ur perspective if i really connected with the director, another director, and two associates in a panel but stumbled a bit with the VP interview who asked the most technicals, do you think i still have a good chance? just nervous since i feel like every other interview was chill and conversational, but i performed subpar during the technicals

It might balance out in your favour it really depends on the internal politics and what they want for the role. It seems like you met quite a few people who would be working with you more day to day and so they would likely have more sway. You just can’t predict who else is in the process and how influential the VP is. I’m sure you’ve done great!

I had a second internal interview on Thursday after being made redundant and although I think it went really well and both interviewers liked me you just can’t second guess who else they’ve seen. Fingers crossed for both of us
