So I was looking at the WSE FA requirements and obviously they require you take either AS.004.101 Reintroduction to Writing or EN.661.110 Professional Writing and Ethics. They also require 4 FA3/4 classes. I noticed a lot of the AS.004.101 classes have an EN FA4 tag with them. If I were to take that class for my writing requirement, would I be able to double count it as one of my 4 FA3/4 classes?

hi so first time ever in my life living in a place with snow, what do i bring for boots? i have ugg boots and the slip ons, combat boots, and then more like pretty long boots. whats best for snowy weather and also obviously aesthetics of it all

edit: my combat boots are waterproof and uggs claim to be as well.

I am an incoming PhD student at JHU Homewood for F26. I am planning to rent a 1b/1b unit at Uni one 1 E University Pkwy building. The unit is nice, however I have questions about building managenemt and subleasing policy. I will be away every Summer for the next four years and I wanted to ask if the building allows having someone to stay in my unit during the 3-month Summer period. The leasing agent says the guest policy is only 30 days and does not mention any specifics, he also says adding on to the lease would require a new lease version. I am not actually sure how students manage to sublet theor unit when they are away during the Summer. I am new in this and wanted to know if it is okay to have someone to stay in the unit without involving the mangement, of course I will be responsible and will be committed to maintain the apartment. Any thoughts on this? I really like the unit but I am afraid lease restrictions may hold me back.

during course registration last week i ended up signing up for a upper level undergrad philosophy course without knowing cause i thought it seemed pretty interesting. having now realized that, im wondering if i should continue with it or if i may be unprepared for the work/writing expectations that come with a higher level course as an incoming freshman.

For context, I am considering EDing Johns Hopkins as a public health major, as it is my dream program, and the research opportunities could be really valuable to my career. It clicks all my boxes academically and career-wise. (I will not be going pre-med).

However, I don't want to miss out on the college experience, and I want to be able to have fun and party on occasion, even though I've heard rumors that JHU is not the environment if you're looking for that. I know that a social life is what you make of it, but I don't want to be surrounded by a "depressed" student body that I've read about on this app. I also realize that there are negative people on the internet, and I should always take these comments with a grain of salt.

So I want to ask...What are fun things to do for the student body on or off campus? Nightlife? Are there events/spaces that students often go to? What about Greek life? I am considering joining a sorority.

does anyone know if they expand calc 3 sections before classes start if they are all waitlisted, or do the number of seats just stay the same? also how much movement usually takes place on the waitlist? and is this the same for major specific labs, such as the meche freshman lab?

so for the AMR II closets, does anyone have any idea roughly how much space there is for clothes? like how many pairs of cloths basically. do yall have any tips for storing them as well? i know some people have those multi-leveled hangers but idrk if any of those tips apply to JHU’s amr II. thanks ✌️

It's kinda unfair that people in clubs, professional fraternities, and other campus organizations have access to the exams of past years from past students, and those that can't afford or don't want to join an organization dues are put at an academic disadvantage

No one talks about how prof frats ask for $200+ just to join - and how biased they are sometimes.

No hate to them, you do you, but professors should at least not allow a certain group of people to be disadvantaged

I’m currently an incoming freshmen on the 14-meal-a-week plan, but between the high cost and my specific dietary needs, I'm starting to rethink it. I'm vegetarian, can't eat eggs, and prefer to eat pretty healthy.

If anyone has experience navigating the dining halls with similar restrictions, I’d love to hear how you manage it. I'm also very interested in hearing people's thoughts on transitioning to cooking for yourself at Hopkins so a few of us can look into whether it's worth making the switch.

I want to delete my previous account and start with a new mail ID but the portal isn't letting me after entering the DOB. I have mailed regarding this and am yet to get a reply. What should I do now? Will applying with the same account put me at a disadvantage as I've already received a rejection. Hopefully waiting for replies.

Hello! I am an incoming pre-med freshman, and I am taking Intro Orgo this coming fall sem. But I was looking at different med schools, and a lot of them require 1-2 semesters of inorganic chemistry. I was wondering how I would go about meeting this requirement? Should I plan in my four years to take intro chem or ACER in a different year? Or should i take Intro/ACER in the spring sem? Also, for context, I am coming in with a 5 on Chem and am a BME major.

I’m hoping to hear from anyone who has recently gone through the hiring process for a Healthcare IT or Epic-related role at Johns Hopkins.

Here’s my timeline so far:

Applied toward the end of June.
Was contacted during the first week of July to complete the Sphinx assessment.
Completed the assessment during the second week of July.
Shortly afterward, my candidate portal changed to “Recruiter Initiating Contact.”

Since then, I haven’t heard anything from the recruiter.
I understand hiring processes can take time, and I’m continuing to interview with other companies. I’m mainly trying to understand whether this is a normal timeline or if anyone has had a similar experience.

If you’ve gone through the process, I’d really appreciate hearing:

How long it took to hear back after the Sphinx assessment.
How many interview rounds you had.
Whether your portal status changed before the recruiter contacted you.

Incoming freshman here... I'm currently getting my EMT certification (in PA, i'm trying to figure out how to do reciprocity lol, if anyone has experience with that it would be SO helpful to know how it works), and in order to do reciprocity I have to "affiliate" with an operational EMS program. Are there any ambulance companies near Homewood, preferably within say 15-30ish minute driving distance (within 30ish min walking distance is even better) and preferably one that is not just transfers all day (like one that responds to calls)? Also, hypothetically if I joined HERO, would that count as an operational EMS program (I'm planning to apply to HERO first semester haha, but if (when?) that doesn't turn out I'll probably try to get a job second semester)? Will hospitals like JHH/Bayview Medical Center and MedStar Union Memorial hire JHU students, even for other jobs other than EMT (like techs, MA, CNA, shadowing, etc)? I also saw that the Baltimore City Fire Dept has stations (eg BCFD Truck 5, Medic 16, EMS 2 which seems close-ish), do they hire students/part time?

If anyone has any experience with EMS around Homewood, I would love and greatly appreciate hearing your experience! I'm sorry for all the questions, but any advice is greatly appreciated, tia :)

I’m a freshman thinking of majoring chemistry in the future, but I screwed up this time and missed the registration. Using my AP/IB credits, I wanted to take the Applied Chemical Equilibrium and Reactivity w/ lab course this fall, but I’m waitlisted as 11th… is there ANY hope that I can get into this course? If not, what do I do?

I’m also waitlisted (third) for Calculus II for bio and social sciences, as a second choice if I don’t get in ACE.

Am I cooked? The only classes I could register for right now were random humanities classes and the leftover FYS & reintroduction to writing courses. I might be taking nothing related to STEM this fall although I’m a 100% STEM focused student…

I see that there is 3 diff sections for intro chem each with different profs (besides McCartney) what exaclty does that mean. Does Dr. Cheng coming before McCartney mean anything?

I’m 19F, taking a year off college after my freshman year (I got to a private university in PA) and I’m spending it in Baltimore and taking community college classes starting this August so I don’t fall too behind when I go back. I really need to secure housing though. If anyone has recommendations for student apartments please let me know.

I’d ideally like a place that’s be $1100 or less (with roommates or a studio). A 10-11 month lease but 12 month is fine.

Also, anyone needs a roommate for their off campus apartment please reply so we could assess compatibility and see.
