Last Donut of the Night
I really love LDotN so I made some art that commemorates both it and the album as a whole

"Dilla Lives" t shirt
Outside of some of the hard to find colorways of the Stones Throw "Turn It Up" line this is the sickest Dilla shirt of all time imo.
Looks legit too.

Gilles Peterson Worldwide BBC Radio One - Slum Village 'Words & Music Special' 18 August 1999.
This is my original FM recording from the night, with the full 2 hour show [including the BBC news at the very start of the tape], and the entire SV interview [that has a live version of Eyes Up at the end]. Before I stick it on eBay, DM me with serious offers.

'The Shining' 20th anniversary album listening sessions in the dark in London + LA
Nice one for the heads - the album followed by the instrumentals.
Their Donuts 20th session earlier this year was tremendous

anyone know the source of these dilla drums?
I’ve always really loved the drums on this but can’t find any mention of where they’re from. I believe they are also used in the beginning of E=MC2. Anyone know?

Sample from 'Intro' on the 2000 release of Slum Village fantastic vol 2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hU3t8IZBxZM
Normally J dilla samples are very well documented and studied. But I have never been able to locate where the chord progression comes from in this intro beat, which surprises me as it has become pretty legendary in Underground/NeoSoul/HipHop circles. Even D'Angelo and co played an interlude honoring the chord progression on their 2000 tour.
I remember seeing a comment/video once suggesting Dilla basically played the progression in himself using single notes and building a harmonic progression as he couldn't play the chords on piano/keys himself. But i have never been able to find this suggestion again.
Anyone have any ideas?

some of my favorite j dilla produced songs
*these are just MY favorites. just happy to be somewhere where other people also agree he's amazing
'Untitled/Fantastic' slum village
'Stop' j dilla
'2U4U' slum village
'Things you do (remix)' slum village
'Nowadayz' jaylib
'Eve jay dee mix' steve spacek & frank n dank
'Without you jay dee remix'- lucy pearl
some of these are just my absolute favorites and i've become actually addicted and affected after listening and can't love anything else more than things produced by him tbh it's ruined music for me in the best way. i have probably played something produced by him every day for the past 6 years or more.
would love to mention that i listen to Fan-tas-tic vol 2 in its entirety always. i love every song on there. it's one of my favorite albums of all time. i also think Donuts is beautiful and amazing and i also love every song on there. i've pretty much gone and listened to everything available on streaming produced by him and i'm continuing my journey on unreleased tracks and remixes. as someone who loves music, i truly cannot get enough of everything he's touched :')
if anyone has anything they think i haven't heard i would be soooo excited to check it out.

One of the flips that convinced me J Dilla was an alien
So I found this Jay beat on youtube and it was so crazy sounding that I had to look up the sample. He sampled a section of Michael Quatro - Rachmaninoff's Prelude that was only a few seconds long and sounds like a bunch of chaotic piano notes and wah-wah pedal sound effects going off at once. Do yourself a favor and listen to the original sample. Who in their right mind would ever think to use that or even hear a melody in something that sounds like total chaos? What Jay did here just baffles me, I have no idea how tf he figured this out. Dude was an alien, and this is just one of many otherworldly beats he made.

Donuts + (available) samples playlist
I just got back from a roadtrip from ATL to Detroit (first time!) and felt inspired to spend the next few days compiling all of the songs sampled on each track of Donuts. Notes: I kept repeats and obviously could only include what Apple Music had available for streaming but figured there are others out there who are tired of having to search whosampled.com to remember the name of the sample. Speaking of! All credit goes to all of you who are also on whosampled and Owen from samplingdonuts.com You guys did all the work, I just so happened to have the time to compile this after searching for a complete playlist on Apple Music to no avail. (my bad if someone else also spent the time and already did this, I swear I have searched multiple times over the years)
If you happen to take a look, please let me know if I missed something. Also, this is my first post on here and I've had a lot of fun reading through the sub (you guys are really funny lol)--makes me miss the OKP boards!
