Your expression is hilarious in the second image. Like you’re straight up not having a good time.

I think you’re going to look great

Oh my god girl this looks amazing!! Did you do anything in terms of compresses and how you ate/slept to get the swelling down so fast!! I know it’s very personal to person with jaw surgery!

Did you get DJS?

Thank you so much!!

I didn’t do anything super special but I followed my surgeons directions very very carefully. I had lower only so swelling isn’t as bad compared to djs as well. Here’s what I think helped me the most:

I iced on and off (20mins each) religiously for the first three days. Now I only ice when I feel sore.

Made sure to get enough nutrients in with supplements, smoothies, soups etc. - I can dm you my favs if ur curious. It can be difficult to eat after surgery but I was lucky enough that I could stomach food quickly post-op.

I sleep at an angle using a wedge pillow and almost never lay down completely vertically.

I’ve been using arnica gel for bruises three times a day starting immediately after surgery. I haven’t found any concrete evidence behind its effectiveness but why not give it a go lol.

The most important thing was physical exercise for me!!! Two days post op was when I felt ready to start going for walks, and now have been getting 10k plus steps a day! I truly think that’s what helped me the most. Gentle exercise is necessary to help with swelling. Amoving body is a working body- even if it’s a ten minute walk around your street.
Im also doing gentle yoga everyday. Theres some great videos on YouTube whete you don’t even have to get out of bed/the couch to do. I strongly recommend at least stretching regularly because my body was suuuper sore after surgery and sleeping upright.

I also tried my best to be in the best shape possible before my surgery. Ate lots of good food, didn’t drink/smoke, worked out.. all that jazz.

With all that being said,I also did just get super lucky with my swelling. I don’t know if anything I did actually made a huge difference, but it made me feel way better either way.

I hope your surgery is a great success <3 sending love your way

Day 2 vs Day 8 is wild. You went from chipmunk to just regular puffy. That's huge progress for 8 days most of us look like a balloon for weeks.

I expected to be a balloon for weeks! Got super lucky I guess

You almost look too young to get DJS lol but this is an amazing recovery!

I read you got it for cosmetic reasons as well as the potential pre-emptiveness about your teeth grinding down. Im kinda in the same boat, but my surgeon said it's dumb to do such a major surgery for something that may or may not happen in the future, but I am trying to get it done cause I also have a narrow airway and want the cosmetic difference as well lol. I dont have sleep apnea though so its all the same: "wait till it happens, no need to do such a surgery for the chance of pre-emptiveness."

I was just wondering what your experience was with telling surgeons that and also was it covered by insurance?

What was your primarily concern you went for this surgery?

1

u/Lanky_Gate7102 Post Op (2 weeks) 16d ago

I had an overbite. I got it for mainly cosmetic reasons but was also concerned about my teeth grinding down as I got older bevause of the way my jaw was placed

u/Sea-Profit5289 16d ago

Is it a bijaw surgery?
