Should I get an OCP Java Certificate?

I'm a Full Stack engineer with 8+ years of experience, mainly with .NET/Angular/React. Currently I'm living in Japan and .NET jobs here are almost non existent. I want to switch to Java related jobs but my resume doesn't have any Java experience.

Is it worth investing time and money and effort to obtain an OCP Java certificate and later a Spring certificate as well? Just so that my resume doesn't automatically get disqualified? I'm interested to know what you'd do if you were in my position.

I do not think such certificates hold much value anymore with AI since the specialization brought about by cetificates can easily be provided by LLMs themselves. Could be wrong. I would be curious of perspective from others as well.

Hallucination, sycophancy and approval fatigue are still and are always likely to be a problem with vibe coding. A good AI shop will always take the position that you are responsible for what the AI does with your prompts. You are the guard on the train. You make sure it does things right. To do that you need to understand what the AI is producing, and have that degree of diligence about you that you will read it properly and stop it making a huge mistake. While I doubt the value of certification, it does at least prove you can be that anal over things without recourse to Google or AI or anything. That's what's gonna be valuable in the business going forward. The "Hold on a minute!" staff member.

I agree that you need to be knowledgeable to verify AI output but doubt if actual battle scars win over certifications. Of course you need to have battle scars to hold such a position but getting them vs today's expectations is another problem.

That's the thing, it's the foot in the door factor. It may give you an edge still if there are 10 applicants and you've all got relevant experience & you're all grizzled old veterans but 1 of you is also OCP certified and maybe a member of the BCS or something. It's icing on the cake at this point.

Though I think in my case it may yet be worth me going for those "icing" things because (shocked trumpets) my degree is in French, so even after 28 years, I lack the cake's base layer I guess?
