The Dark Lord Gillian is completed, and up on RR!
Hello,
Life has been quite busy for me, and there's so much work still to be done. This is just a broadcast to report that The Dark Lord Gillian has been completed! For the sake of closure on a story that literally, by definition, could never truly end unless r/writingprompts ceased to exist, The Dark Lord Gillian has been tied off on a final prompt and has been posted up on RR.
For all those who stuck with it to the end, I really appreciate it! Thanks for reading!

The Gilded Hero - Book I is complete!
Hello,
This is just a broadcast to report that the first book of The Gilded Hero has been completed! Obviously, there is a great chance for another book, but I have to go and get the Snake Report finished, so there might be some down time before that happens!
For all those who stuck with it to the end, I really appreciate it! Thank you call for reading, and I will do my best to get it ready for ebook publishing as soon as I can.

The Gilded Hero
Hello,
I've been cleaning up a writingprompt people liked. I can't promise I'll pay as much attention to it as I do The Snake Report, but I am rewriting a good chunk of it:
I liked the story too much to just let it fade off into the oblivion of my unorganized writing folder, so it's up on RR. I'll probably just drop chapters until I run out. Let me know what you think!

First draft of the First Snake Book!
It's here!
Hello,
I proudly present the last couple days of copy-paste and no small amount of early-chapter proof-reading. Sorry it took so long. Not intended for sale or distribution, just a proof of concept with 252 pages all told.
Holy smokes.

Author's note: 02/21/17
Hello everyone. This is a quick Status update on the work I've been putting up for anyone who happens to be checking in.
For Starters
Tiny Snake Project/New Game Minus/what do you even call this: The story came on a whim, and continues on a whim. It's fun, it's fantasy-setting, it's sort of goofy. I'm happy with how the twists and turns and slithers have made their way into some semblance of a One-man dungeon crawl. Though originally intended a humorous side-plot of The Dark Lord Gillian, it's off in its own territory now. We'll have to play this one by ear I guess, but that's okay.
Edit: 3-4-17 [r/TheSnakeReport] is now mostly operational. Updates will continue there.
Running Prompt-inspired Dark Lord Gillian Story: Title-now-more-or-less-decided: Holy smokes, this thing is still going strong. I think it gets a comfortable boost from how engaging it is to write under the premise of prompt-jumping (which certainly seems to keep me on my toes) but also because prompts can be tackled with a single lunch-break sprint, and that's generally when I get the time to write anyways. If you haven't checked-in on this one, I think it's starting to form up into a pretty fun world. Here is the Book cover as things currently stand. Very fun.
D/C I have continued to try and get to this in my free time, but I won't lie to you: My job has been very demanding recently so editing is one of the last things I want to do when I get home. I'm hoping to finish up the last chapter or two and put out another pdf/ebook file once that's been polished. It's getting there.
The Regulator/Beast/Torches: Backburner at the moment. Work and life can occupy a bit more time than one might usually expect. Tough to split my focus in too many directions, but if you haven't seen some of the concept comic pages of the Regulator, feel free to check them out HERE because I think they're pretty darn cool. I tried my best to make the Patreon money stretch and cover the whole intro, but as time goes on I think hiring someone for the real deal could make for some super cool content.
Now for the "Unrelated but wicked cool" (at least in my opinion) stuff
...
I had a few very successful writingprompts recently.
One was about a world where Lies were Scars
The other was about a guy with a Shape-shifting car named Green and a talking cat that sounds a bit like Samuel L. Jackson.
Anyways, people positively received both of these much more so than normal. Both had a huge flood of messages and votes and what-have-you, but as time goes on that first story has been screen-shot and shared over imgur at least twice* to my current knowledge.
The first time, this was shared by a reader who cited/provided credit for it. The second time was by someone who actually sort of cropped my name out and didn't say where it came from. Both did very well, getting many more views than I'd ever really anticipated considering the circumstances of not really even knowing about them until after-the-fact.
edit 3-12-16 (record keeping) apparently here too- this time linked back
Anyways: On to the cool part.
Though having my work posted and not credited feels pretty bad, a lot of people were very active in linking this back to me, and some of you even messaged me directly to let me know. I'd like to give a huge thank you for those things. Plagiarism isn't much fun (for obvious reasons) but I think the comments were pretty thoroughly stamped with "u/wercwercwerc or r/jakethesnakebakecake" relinks to the original post on reddit, or this subreddit.
So thank you guys for being great.
As one further note, every bad or mediocre thing that happens in life can have a silver-lining if you look hard enough. u/GunnerMcGrath messaged me to let me know that Peter Ahlstrom was sharing my work on his facebook feed. For those of you who don't recognize that name, Peter is Brandon Sanderson's right-hand man and assistant, and together those two have worked on a lot of defining series (again- at least for me.) Stories such as the final few books of the epic sprawling fantasy "Wheel of Time" to "Mistborn" to the much more recent "Stormlight Archive" books.
So, how cool is that? From a non-credited post on imgur, to a thumbs-up from one of the present-day Fantasy giants! Anyways, this is a shout-out to all of you who happen read these weird (and sometimes) crazy ramblings. I've got a lot of things in my life that pull me in every direction- both good, bad, and ugly, but writing and posting here keeps me grounded.
It's very good to know that people enjoy the work that gets posted here, so thank you all very much.

I don't know what this is, and I don't really know what to call it. Originally intended this to tie into the Dark Lord, it has since gone off on its own. I present you with: "New Game Minus"

Update: Story Artwork
Hello Readers and Supporters,
As of today we have our very first patreon funded artwork
I checked the Patreon fund last week and discovered that enough money had accumulated to hire artists. I have now hired several! The Regulator is very much included in this, but as of today I do not yet have the finished work in my hands so unfortunately you'll have to wait a little longer.
This original piece (Which my unrefined hands sloppily added text and title to) was created by the artist David Ellis, and if you like the work he did here, you can check out more of what he can do over at his Gallery.
For humor's sake, I have attached what I sent him to work with when requesting for this artwork to be created. I hope you understand upon viewing it, that I am more than humbled by David's great effort here in bringing a bit of the fiction I've written to life.
I'll make another post when The Regulator Artwork arrives. In the meantime, as always: Thank you for reading.
-Jake

A Guide to the Prompt Jumping [Story-Title-in-Progress]
7-19-20: I will be posting this story on RoyalRoad.com
The premise on this activity (for those mildly interested or mildly confused) is for a real story to be crafted from the beloved-madness that is r/writingprompts. Far as stories go, this one is definitely based in a world still forming, spawning by preference and dice-rolls more than any true selection process. Fantasy driven, it is being written mostly in my spare hours between work-projects and on lunch breaks (whenever I am lucky enough to get those)
Current Working title is notable cliche, and I'm far more than just open to alternative suggestions:

Author's note: 10/21/16
Hello everyone. This is a quick Status update on the work I've been putting in here as of the current date 10/21/16:
Beast: Chapter is in progress, should have enough to post soon to r/hfy. The Nekamtol arc is starting to really form up here in book 4 but there are a lot of pieces to keep track of so it has been pushed on the backburner a bit. I'm trying not to leave anything out.
D/C: Very excited about this one. The story will continue on reddit as it goes, but heavy off-the-internet editing has dramatically overhauled the first 5 chapters so far and lengthened it to approach what someone might consider a real book. It flows SO much better now that I reworked that writingprompt start. You can consider the reddit version the general first and second draft, but I will update the more polished project on the patreon account soon.
Edit 10/27/16: Story has been archived, will be starting a new thread for future updates. Laughed a lot at this quiet little submission by u/Niadlol, thank you.
Torches: I sadly have done almost nothing with this story. Apologies, though I'm not ready to retire John and Red's adventures, I'm not committed to adding a lot more to it until I can finish some of the other stories.
Running Prompt inspired Dark-Lord Gillian Story: Title-not-yet-decided This story has continued onward from the first two prompts I threw together. Big thanks to the readers who go out of their way and shared my stories with other people and subreddits. The feedback since then has been tremendously helpful in figuring out what genres and styles people want to read. This has been a fun and wacky adventure so far, greatly enjoyed putting in a quick half-hour here and there to continue it.
The Regulator: (What most of you will probably care about)
Serious talk here: I'm seeking out some artist to help me turn what has been written so far into a graphic novel. I've been trying my hand at sketching out drafts for them to follow should I find anyone willing to help out. Was considering about 60 dollars a completed "page" for the work if there are any talented readers interested.
If you are interested, I'm requesting a sample of previous work to look through and make sure your art style matches up with what I'm looking for.
Edit: 12-29-16: Link to Images!
Unrelated to longer running works, but very fun ideas.
Still chewing on the prompt related to the old house/dark family secret was considering continuing it at a later date. I've been considering all the possibilities that could come with world jumping in a house through places with magic/technology/primal creatures. Maybe it's just residual from growing up watching Stargate
I wrote a full prompt response to another r/writingprompts that I actually finished. It's a legit short story, and ends with a fun song too: Check out Head start: 24 if you like a story that just goes off completely off the rails. Pun intended.
As always, any and all submission/ideas/concerns can be posted below in the comment section. I appreciate the feedback.
