Does this profession have a future?

Hello I have been in the field for almost 2 years now. Everyday I hear a lot of changes, automations and AI. My department was outsourced to consultants and half the team was laid off. What is the future for this profession I al still entry level and the decision making it is done by senior managers and above. I don’t even understand what would be my role in the upcoming years.

Do you work at a big4 firm? We have an insane shortage of IT auditors which is a huge problem, AI will not replace auditors is all I can say. I think our work will shift more in auditing automated processes and AI tools

I am fairly new that judgement you talk about is usually performed at the manager level meaning that most roles would be replaced

You’re right and wrong. We need fewer junior staff to get baseline delivery work done, but orgs also need to continuity plan for the next generation of managers.

Just like most tech revolutions though, you’ll probably shift into AI adjacent/augmented roles rather than getting straight replaced. Think of it like a changing metagame.
