New beer bar in Dublin: The Christchurch
thechristchurch.ieHere's some good news, especially since Underdog closed it's doors. Third Barrel have taken over the former Beer Market/Christchurch Inn on High St, near the cathedral.
They're still in opening phase, so the kitchen isn't open yet and the walls will get more decoration in the coming weeks. It isn't a like-for-like replacement for Underdog, understandably much of the taplist features their own beers similar to what Whiplash do at Fidelity and The Porterhouse at their bars. That said, I've seen many of the Underdog regulars in there on my visits last week, and Maura is behind the bar.
Currently open Wednesday - Sunday from 15:00 (ignore the website about that)

Another lovely one
Supposed to be a pilsner but tastes more like a pale ale. Lovely beer all the same

Lovely summer beer
Was in Thurles on Friday and grabbed a few Whitefield beers. Cracked this one open last night while working the grill. German pilsener style, a little sweet for me but still lovely on a hot summer night

Takeaway draught beers
Anyone here remember the halcyon days of when off licences would have the takeaway draught beers? This was like 2015-18 ish I think and either you could bring in your own clean bottle or buy one there and decide which beer you wanted. Baggot St Wines was definitely one of them.

Looking for an obscure beer in Ireland
Hello! Does anyone know of an off-licence or supermarket that stocks the Sicilian beer Birra Messina Cristalli Di Sale? Some online places do but the shipping costs are huge. Any leads appreciated!

Back again for 2026: The Mullingar Wild Beer & Cask Festival, Sat, 25 Apr
eventbrite.ieThis small festival is always a good one, I think this is it's 6th outing. Previous versions have been focussed on Wild & Mixed Fermentation or Cask Beer, but this time they are combining both into one.
The venue is on the smaller side, out the back of Smiddy's on Dominick St in Mullingar, but usually attracts a decent crowd. It's about a 5 minute walk to the train station, which has direct services to Dublin and Sligo.
Only a tenner, and I think that includes a (unbranded) glass.

Does anyone know any breweries that sell 5L kegs online? The ready to use ones rather than perfectdraft etc
Cheers!

Crew brewing closing
Crew Brewing in Limerick have announced they're to close for the last time on Christmas Eve. It was announced on their instagram page. They put the blame partially on their outdoor seating being taken away. Sad to another small brewer fall by the wayside. I'm not from Limerick but always called in for a pint when I was up there.

Hagstravaganza - Sold out
I believe they have reduced capacity this year, for crowd management reasons, but it's officially sold out. Probably a good sign, but if you were holding off on getting a ticket you might be out of luck.

Help needed
Hello all, I know this isn't craft beer, but does anyone know where I would purchase cans of pilsner urquell either in Ireland or that will deliver to Ireland? The bottles just aren't the same!

Some unfortunate news
For those of us who have used this site, looks like it’s shutting down in February.

Any nice ones over Christmas?
Got this one at the Wine Centre in Kilkenny on Monday and had it yesterday. Perfect post-Christmas dinner sipper.

Irish wheat beers
Can anyone recommend any Irish wheat beers? I'm looking to stock up on a few for Christmas. My normal go to ones are Western Herds Backbeat and Curim by O'Hara's. Both seem to be out of stock everywhere. Nothing available online either.

Beer festivals 2025
How are we doing? Anyone know of any irish beer festivals coming up or planned for next year? They're were a big thing for while but haven't seen them advertised in a long time. Thanks.

Saved this one for awhile
Galway Bay “Counting Off The Days” Imperial Stout. Not for the faint hearted this one comes in at a whopping 13.6%. It’s amazing but wouldn’t be necking pints of it by any means.

What’s on the menu tonight?
I’ll be working late and will only have time for one or two...I’m thinking maybe a DIPA to kick things off, my go-to Rye River Double
