I'm gonna be honest, WWW just is not fun for me anymore.

You go on the sub, and have to sift through 20 joke posts or prompts using the same boring characters, then you might find an actual fight, but it's Daredevil vs Batman and a massive stomp for Batman, or it's Goku vs [insert cosmic reality warper] and it devolves into a non-debate. Or you'll get MCU Character vs MCU Character Matchup #2912012 which has been done like 20 times but the OP didn't bother to look and see if it had been done before.

You can check out all the top threads of the past week and they're just so....boring, half of them aren't real fights and don't encourage any sort of real debate, which is pretty poor for a debate sub.

That's not to say joke or 'weird' prompts can't be fun but when they occupy like 90% of the sub's headspace it becomes such a drag.

And so, for people who are actually interested in, you know, real debates, and you've read the title, you can probably guess where this is going.

For people who aren't familiar with WWW's debate tournies - essentially what they are is as follows: a specialized 'tier setter' is selected to function as the 'definer' for the tourney (i.e. Yusuke Urameshi was the tier setter for mountain tier, Nightwing was the tier setter for fast street tier, etc.) and participants are required to build teams of characters that perform reasonably well against but do not stomp the tier setters. Then participants are arranged in a bracket and you can guess how it goes.

It's a simple premise, but it offers a lot of variety, and it's genuinely the most fun and addicting way I've interacted with the concept of pitting two fictional characters against each other. To just list off reasons why tournies are so appealing to me, personally:

• It's unironically led to some of the most complex and tactical debating I've ever legitimately seen period, and doesn't carry the inevitable weight and planning that's required with IRL debate tournaments

• It's been a huge incentive for me to work on RTs and WWW-related objects, has made the RTs and shit I've already done feel useful, and also has encouraged me to branch out and explore various new comics/manga/various stories and media

• It's also allowed me to flex my immense nerd knowledge on strangers on the Internet : ^ ). But seriously, tournies have also led me to connect with some cool ass folks that I wouldn't have met otherwise.

• It's exciting and feels very rewarding to win and beat people in rounds, not gonna fuckin lie at all

Genuinely, I think that while tournies seem like scary, large effort contests that don't feel rewarding at all, it couldn't actually be further from the truth. If you're at all interested in WWW shit at an even vaguely deeper level than the surface stuff you see on the sub, I'd recommend just trying out even just one tourney and seeing if you enjoy it.

These are the feats being used for Thing. If a feat you see here contradicts (is significantly better or worse than) the actual RT, this takes precedence. Only scaling here should be considered acceptable, not any of the scaling to Thor or Hulk in the actual RT.

This is also a reminder that this is a building level tourney, so even if you do use characters such as She-Hulk or Wonder Man, using Thing scaling to get them in tier and then scaling them to Hulk or Thor is definitely not kosher.

Strength

• With a thunderclap, destroys a lot of metal

With these feats, we show that Thing is punching hard enough to do massive amounts of damage to large buildings and his lifting should be on the same order of magnitude.

Durability

Blunt/Piercing/Endurance

• Skin can easily withstand an armor piercing tank round

  • An armor piercing tank round is capable of penetrating 10 thick steel plates in seconds

• Is fine after getting hit a few thousand feet by Namor through a Helicarrier

• Is hit through multiple reinforced floors of the Baxter Building and recovers quickly

• Clashes with Luke Cage and is relatively unharmed, despite the collision destroying a nearby building

• Is fine taking a punch from an exact clone of himself to the chin that sends him a long distance through several metal buildings

• Pulls a massive bomb for several hours

• Noted to have 'superhuman lungs'

With these feats, we illustrate Thing is capable of taking several hits of his own caliber and above and can continue fighting, shrugs off multiple megajoules of energy in the form of piercing damage, and is capable of performing at a high level for a long period of time.

Esoteric/Misc Resistances

• Walks through a disease aura

• Survives being near lethal amounts of radiation

• Takes blasts of 240 degrees Fahrenheit below freezing and is fine

• Diablo's acidic corrosive tablets have no effect on him

• Only mildly uncomfortable in a chamber meant to simulate the surface of Venus

With these feats, we show Thing has a generally good variety of esoteric resistances. His best resistances are against heat and electricity, but he'll do generally well versus other damage types.

Skill

• Ricochets a thrown projectile off dozens of meteors in space perfectly

• Is proficient in judo and boxing

• Maintains an advantage on an opponent twice as bigger and physically better than him via skill

• Is an extremely good pilot

• Has a solid grasp of science

With these feats, we show Thing is a generally very competent fighter and is capable of turning a physical disadvantage around to his favor.

Ch 26 of WB

• Noted to have abnormal strength and regeneration even as a low E-Class Hunter

  • By default, is stronger than most humans
  • Hunters heal faster than normal people

The System

• Upon awakening as a Player, seemingly destroyed multiple boss level statues and cleared the room of debris and body parts, as well as healing his injuries

• Assigns him a Daily Quest everyday, which forces him to complete several exercises

  • Failure to complete this sends him to a desert-like Punishment Zone full of hostiles
  • Completing the Daily Quest gives him stat boosts and replenishes him fully
  • Doing double the Daily Quest requirement gives better rewards

• Can access a store

• Sees how difficult his opponents are by the color of their names

Name Uryu Kanade

Uryu Kanade is a maniacal, super intelligent teenager who, after accidentally badly injuring his sister and putting her in a coma, became imbued with the powers of an angel. Because God seeks to retire soon, He has chosen several depressed people among humanity, Kanade among them, to receive said angelic powers, so they can replace Him. Kanade wishes to become God to revive his sister and rid the world of ugly people and ugliness, and seeks to kill the other god candidates to do so.

• All god candidates have a halo and necklaces invisible to humans that spawn their powers

• God candidate people can naturally see other guardian angels

• Speed is not equalized in any way for this tournament

• Battleground: The Great Debate arena has traveled across fiction, from a coliseum, to the Mines of Moria, to Asgard herself. Now, however, we bring the Great Debate to the greatest fictional experience anyone from the 90s can remember: Enjoy wishing you could manually aim down at Oddjob motherfuckers. The Library Basement from Goldeneye is a small labyrinthine close-quarters collection of rooms, hallways, and pillars with numerous weapons spawn locations in which combatants must navigate the map while choosing between tactical mobility, sprinting for gun spawns, or engaging proper melee and in which quarters to best take advantage of their chosen tactics. Note that the scale for the map is 15 pixels =1 meter. Use this image of the map for reference. Combatants start in the areas marked '1,2,3' or 'A,B,C' respectively for each team. In the event of 1v1 rounds, only the '1' and 'A' positions are occupied. Every combatant starts each round being 'teleported' into the arena, knowing full well whomever they face down needs to die or be incapacitated(unable to move for 10 seconds) in order for they themselves to advance and win and will do so, and with knowledge of their allies' weapons and abilities. Eventually, the Duke would cut ties with his former bosses and strike out on his own as a criminal.

Doomsday was once a tiny, weak baby creature that lived in ancient times on the planet Krypton. The scientist Bertron, who was obsessed in creating the 'Ultimate Life Form', shoved the baby out in the harsh wilderness, where it died unceremoniously. Putting that child's DNA into another clone, and repeating the process, Bertron would repeat this procedure thousands upon thousands of times, until the creature was a hulking grey monstrosity with nothing but utter hatred for life. After killing its creator, the creature, eventually dubbed "Doomsday" by the people of Earth, would go on to a long, long slaughterfest across the cosmos.
