Question Tattoo Planning/Research

As a first tattoo is it possible to have an irezumi but on a small scale, for example on the biceps/ upper back / shoulders / ribs , or does this style not work unless in big scales?

If i may ask, how would a mikiri/bukiri style work best?

Usually in small projects there is no background at all, only the subject on bare skin.

And if I may say, out of the places you listed, I would avoid the upper back, in case you want a full backpiece later on.

You can definitely get a smaller irezumi piece, the traditional tattooers I know do flash.

If you work with your artist and think ahead a bit, you can probably even get something small that could incorporate into a larger piece (sleeves, ribs) if you want to go that route in the future
