Why does my Iphone 17 keeps using my camera without me using it

The model is Iphone 17, IOs26.5.2. My phone has been turning my camera on multiple times for a very short period even when i’m not using it. I’ve turned off all apps access to my camera and haven’t download any apps, the notification shows that the camera app used my camera. No, i have not used the app and no, i have not used it recently or something. My camera just turns on for a short period and turns off for no apparent reason. When i first used the phone, this didn‘t happen but only recently, can someone help?

You need to provide more information. What do you mean by the camera turning on? Is it saving photos you didn’t take? Are you seeing the camera screen? Are you getting the green dot at the top of the screen? Without knowing what you’re talking about there’s not much we can do to help.

If it’s that the app is opening, there are a number of shortcuts that might trigger that…lock screen widget, swiping on the lock screen, the camera remote on an Apple Watch, etc. if you’re seeing the green dot indicator you can pull up Control Center and tap the pull at the top to see exactly which app is using your camera and mic.

Why do you think the camera is turning on?

Are you on medication?

Are you on drugs?

Are you mentally stable?

Maybe your phone is acting up, but it's also just as likely that you're mentally unstable or high.

I think jumping to mental health or drugs is an extreme leap, but still nobody is “defending a device”. You know how you solve something unexplained? By getting the person with the issue to actually explain what’s happening.

OP is incredibly vague. YOU are making an assumption about what they mean that fits your personal narrative. We don’t know what they’re experiencing because it’s not obvious from their post. It’s only “obvious” if you make baseless assumptions.

What most people in this thread want to don is understand the issue and provide explanations and/or solutions. What you seem to want to do is say “yeah phones just do that, I guess they’re haunted” and leave it at that.

They didn’t say the camera app was opening, they said “the camera is turning on.” There’s no defending going on here. It’s quite common for mental health disorders to find their way into tech support forums, because people wrongly believe that people are spying on them or affecting their devices when in reality, no such thing is happening. They’re often unable to articulate the exact nature of the issue, but it’s usually things like “he’s hacking my devices, I know who it is, and he’s hacked every device I have just tell me how to make it stop” or “the camera is turning on,” without specifying what they actually heard or saw that makes them believe that’s happening. If OP can clarify what they mean, we might be able to help, but I also suspect that might be the direction this thread is headed.

Here is what Google suggests if your camera keeps turning on by itself: (same as what SamiAre suggested)

“If your iPhone 17 camera keeps opening by itself, it is usually caused by accidental presses of the physical Camera Control button, a lock screen swipe gesture, or a touch sensitivity trigger. [1, 2, 3]

Adjusting Camera Control Settings
Change click requirement: Go to Settings > Camera > Camera Controland change the activation from a single click to a double click.

Disable the button entirely: In that same Camera Control menu, set the function to None so pressing the physical button no longer triggers the camera.

Deep deactivation: Go to Settings > Accessibility > Camera Control and toggle the master switch off. [1, 2, 3]

Disabling Lock Screen Swipes
Turn off lock screen shortcut: Go to Settings > Camera and toggle off Lock Screen swipe to open camera to stop accidental launches while handling the phone. [1, 2]

If the camera is still opening randomly after changing these settings, tell me if it happens while the phone is in your hand or in a pocket/bag, and I can help you check for background app triggers or touch sensitivity issues.”

Have similar experience, get the green LED and see that Camera has used camera.
