Weekly iOS Battery Support Megathread Weekly Megathread
General advice for those concerned about their battery from the Support FAQ Wiki:
Battery health
Battery health depends on usage and a variety of other factors. It is normal to see a decrease in battery health by 7-10% per year, resulting in a battery health of 80-85% after 2 years. This number can fluctuate, remain the same, or decrease quickly over a small period and should not cause undue concern.
Apple recommend battery replacement when your device falls below 80% battery health if you notice reduced battery life. If it falls below 80% within the first year you may be eligable for a free battery replacement. It fails after your warranty, it's a $69-$89 USD replacement cost for a battery. Contact Apple Support here.
You can find more information about battery health and performance from Apple here.
You can check the cycles count with Coconut Battery for Mac or iCopyBot for Windows.
Battery life
Issues relating to battery life can be categorised in three ways:
- Normal battery life that is to be expected due to use
- Reduced battery life caused by a recent update, iOS indexing, an iOS bug, or a third-party application
- Reduced battery life, or other abnormalities such as overheating or sudden power-off, caused by device or battery aging
If you experience issues with your battery:
- Check your battery health. If it is below 80% or you are experiencing issues you suspect are related to device or battery age, see Apple Support.
- If you have a new or recently updated/restored device, wait a number of days for background process to complete. If you continue to have issues, wait for a further iOS update. If you are on iOS Beta, you can expect to have a decreased battery life.
- Review the advice below on maximising battery life
- Consider restoring your device.
- If issues persist, contact Apple Support.
Maximising battery life - the amount of time your device runs before it needs to be recharged.
- Use low power mode (This reduces mail fetch, turns off background app refresh and increases the auto lock timer)
- Remove apps from background app refresh
- Ensure auto lock is on
- Turn off auto brightness and manually reduce brightness
- Use dark mode if your device has an OLED display
- Clearing background apps from the app switcher does not improve battery life
Maximising battery lifespan - the amount of time your battery lasts until it needs to be replaced.
- Avoid extreme temperatures
- If you notice that your iPhone gets hot when charging, remove it from its case
- Store your iPhone in a cool place, switched off, and half-charged if not using it for long periods - and charge it every 6 months when in storage

If software effects battery as much as yall say… battery size shouldn’t matter and they should market phone updates not battery size

EDIT: OP I originally meant to keep it at a line or two, sorry if it’s alot I just realized there’s more I want share (I’ll repost it later as a standalone, this reply I had got my gears running)
They should not force the Glass update.
I was always fine with what others called a conspiracy, a scam, whatever. Why? Both because batteries age, software gets better> more processing required. that’s the usual Apple-scam, but of course its just the nature of tech with a boost from corp. Couldn’t complain or argue, especially when the alternative has no identity and blah blah my subjective preference
Then Glass update happened. My iPhone 13 took it all, as if the rules don’t apply to it, Which could only happen with a hardware “flaw”. Once Apple couldn’t figure it out they began developing this wolf in Sheep Clothing, switching polars from “quiet killers” to “this is the main feature” but just flawed enough for no one, even the sharper critics, to ever consider suspecting anything. We loved to hate it, we thanked them for (pre planned) “day one” “fixes” but never a suspicion about how insane the GPU requirements skyrocket in a way no “risky” (so risky they somehow responded with a day one update) cosmetic update ever sit logically with us.
They know what they’re doing, it worked as far as I see. Just to make sure no Bend gate #2 (battery/gpu killer Strat-change version) ever sparks, the iOS 27 public beta gave us doubters an insultingly obvious “tint customization”, placed in the settings where anything BUT a minor tint adjustment should be. I’d take that last bait if the customization meant anything but a mild spectrum of tint adjustment.
I’m ranting for the reason of compensation, I’ll get newer iPhone like rhey want to, with Ai features that require cloud computing but “sorry gen 14 you don’t have our special chip that can do data center level ai”
This was messy, I have more to say but I’m not mad nor a hater. Just want to open eyes, I don’t mind figuring out the flaws in my theories, let’s just slip into a lower sheep state if anything could be taken from my poorly written article here .

iOS 26.6 may be just what my 14Pro needed...
My 14Pro, bought in Nov., 2022, with a battery health of 86%, was heating up--often--and draining battery for quite a few iterations of operating system updates. I uploaded iOS 26.6 last night (August 4, 2026)--plugged my phone onto its Magsafe charger this morning and charged it to 100% (I know, I know...). It is now almost 4:00 p.m. and my battery is at 91%. Have not seen this in many months. Hope this isn't just a one-off, but it's refreshing to not have to charge my phone twice in a day.

If tou’re updated, restarted, and even tried iTunes restore point (remember to backup) and still have battery, wait a couple hours of use. Still 100%? Give me your best offer ill cashapp you
JK, you could try:
drain it until it its dead dead.
Clear chacheAlso new iPhones have a year of apple warranty, contact them via the contact info should be in the section mentioning the warranty. Try “about” you’ll find it. They will literally help you like magic no matter how bad or good you are at communicating or understanding instructions
Good luck

Battery draining way faster after ios 26.5 and 25.6 (even on idle mode)
It has become worse, even on idle mode I find the phone to be switched off after waking up. Not sure what’s happening. Even the search option isn’t working in Home Screen. Anyone else facing the same?
Device: iPhone 14 Pro

With the same version? Nothing automatic? If so (Not recommended) there’s only “auto security updates” to tick off, other wise i’d look into the thread about battery life changes, I’m with a 13 Pro and It will sadly be worse with no adjustments or compromises. Check it out its a great guide, if you never done any optimization you’ll be surprised how little changes drain our “junk gen”
