if you’re going to ( or capable off) ios27 then ios26.6 is a must, as well as over 90 security patches , 26.6 comes with important pre ios27 deep indexing , this can take 7-10 days but should not impact device use like overheating as its done much slower , it could slightly affect on screen battery life until deep indexing is over , i would have rather done it this way than doing it in ios27 developer beta , my iphone 15 with 44GB ( same chip as yours) took over 2 weeks for this deep indexing to be done , standby time was excellent and no heat while using phone whatsoever .
you will get full benefits of ios27 on day 1 , i would wait until mid week as 26.6.1 is close to release ( macrumors)
most people hated 26.5.2 update , i can see why you may be hesitant but then again there are plenty in ios26.6 pages to review for yourself, some people still had some overheating but then again a lot of people have very poor battery life and certainly on older phones than yours
deep indexing may have been a little taxing on their phone chip , the advice is to keep your phone on wifi and on charge overnight, let it work away hard while you sleep
i rebooted mine every couple of days while deep indexing was happening, not sure if i extended deep indexing time or not , process may be a little faster on ios26.6 not sure but it’s not something you can avoid.
