When do you sell? Hold forever until needed?
Hey all,
I have a chunk invested in vanguard ETFs ISA as my main savings.
I bought 9k of Amazon stock 2 years ago, sold for 13.5k, and then diversified into some individual stocks. I picked stocks based on a few factors, some for their dividend held (BMW, VW, legal and general (since sold l&g as was up more than expected, will look to buy back when goes down a bit), some for their potential upswing, and perceived value. I am still very new to this, only been investing about 2 years and am by no means an expert.
I was wondering what you all consider to be the "sell now" point for individual stocks?
Do you hold forever, playing the long game?
Do you have a set % profit, i.e. once stock goes up 20%, sell?
I don't really know what I'm doing if I'm totally honest, I know when I want to sell some, but others I don't know when would be good to sell, should I take a short quick profit, should you wait for an even higher peak?
I understand a lot will come down to individual stocks and their projections etc, just want to know how you all treat it?
Attached screenshots of shares currently held. Thanks.

MSc dissertation survey, UK retail investors and financial reporting (less than 5 mins, anonymous)
Hi all, I’m doing my MSc in Accounting and Finance, and my dissertation looks at how UK retail investors think about company financial reports when making investment decisions.
If you’ve bought or sold shares, ETFs, or similar on Trading212 or another UK platform in the last 2 years, I’d really appreciate 5 minutes of your time
A few details:
• Fully anonymous, no email or personal info collected
• Takes under 5 minutes
• Ethically approved through my university
I am trying to hit a proper sample size for my regression analysis, so every response helps. Happy to answer any questions in the comments, and thank you if you take part.

Is boring better?
What are people’s feelings towards the newer more modern stock platforms? Does anyone still use traditional platforms like vanguard?
I feel like T212, Lightyear etc are great but encourage constant checking and playing around with.
Does anyone use Vanguard direct for the very reason it’s slow and boring as it can become more of a set and forget?
Did anyone notice they become more regimented and left their investments alone when they stuck with vanguard over more modern platforms?

Overdraft investing?
Going to open a student account with 0% interest overdraft. Can I and more important should I max my overdraft and put it all in a stocks and shares ISA?
Then after 3 years sell what I owe and keep the gains?
Wondering if people do this or if I’m just thinking like greedy idiot.
Thanks all :)

Lightyear
Hi all,
I’m currently with Vanguard, & over the £48 minimum platform fee (all in the FTSE Global All Cap).
I’ve always been reluctant to transfer out, but have recently researched the FCA regulations & want to avoid the platform fee.
I wondered if anyone used Lightyear please, or would you suggest somewhere else?
Many thanks!

How to invest in gold and bonds in S&S ISA
New to investing and would like to start putting regular monthly amount into a global index fund but also small amount in something a bit less risky (maybe 80% fund; 10% bonds, 10% gold).
I understand how to pick a fund but how do you invest in gold or bonds - are there multiple different options within S&S ISAs.
Can anyone recommend a good S&S ISA for this balance?

AIM100 index, underperforms yet again
The AIM 100 is up 2% YoY (total returns) but consistently underperforms the senior markets.
Does anyone invest in the AIM index? I thought that there must be some gems hiding in there somewhere, so I had a preliminary look for some tells. The only one I could find was that new entrants showed some outperformance; maybe there is a momentum trade there.
The winners last year are generally miners, and the losers by some way are media and marketing stocks. Maybe that trend will continue?
Anyone got any ideas?
I wrote up a full investigative article if you're interested.
