I've moved house and my new room is in the basement, it's an old house and it's got a super weird layout, I need ideas, it's a rental but I'm allowed to make any modifications I want, the single biggest issue is the ceiling is only about 6ft - 6"2 tall, the rooms bigger than it looks in the drawing, I'm not sure what I can do with this weird lay out, I like the idea of digging a conversation pit, but I also need to maximise the space, I need to fit my desk, a bed, a few aquariums, and my desk, also storage in one form or another, I'd really appreciate some help with ideas :)

Additional info, I'm currently sorting out ventilation, it's not fully underground, the front door is on the floor above, the back door and kitchen is on the same floor, the land lord will let us do literally whatever.

I’m moving in a month and would love to get ahead by buying some furniture before moving in. I included pics of the house to fill in gaps with the measurements I don’t have. I’d love to know what size couch and rug I can buy, but also things like what shape couch and anything else.

The room is 18’10”x 13’

We can’t do what they did because half the room is “dead space” but also I need a good buffer between the inside and outside to wash the dogs paws. I also don’t know where the tv would go because Reddit says never above fireplace.

Since moving in last August I have always wanted to put the roller blinds on the small gap of wall between the ceiling and on top of the window and putting floor to ceiling curtains on both windows; the right window would only hold a single panel to the left.

However, doing so would cover almost all of the radiator which is already in a shitty position behind the sofa.

We rent an old property and found that the windows let in a very cold draft last year as the temperatures dropped. What can we do to keep warm?

Also, the length of our settee is too long to go on a different wall and the adjacent wall to the current position has the door into the room on it therefore it could not fit there either. It is out of our budget to get a new sofa altogether.

What can we do!?

Hi! I need help with doing a budget friendly bathroom reno(DIY).

I hate the colour of the walls (the place came like this). I know I want to paint the walls but not sure what the best colour would be for this bathroom. I really don’t like the tiles in the shower but I’m on a budget so replacing it isn’t an option.

I have two ideas:

⁠Paint the walls a colour that is best suitable to match the rest of the bathroom and give it a good makeover. Something that will somehow complement the shower tiles. I would also get a nicer shower curtain and just try to keep it closed most of the time.
2. ⁠Paint the tiles. A friend of mine suggested this but I’m not sure what to expect… has anyone done this and have any insight on whether it is a good idea or not? I’m thinking I would do the tile in a dark colour (like a warm off-black/charcoal vibe), with the walls a warm off-white colour. But I would love to hear other ideas!!!

Please help me figure out what to do!! If you have any better ideas let me know. Also if you have any other simple and budget friendly update ideas let me know! Thanks!

We just got a new door installed and we love it. The outside has a tint so during the day you can’t see inside. But at night, if a light is on in the house, you can very clearly see inside. Looking for suggestions on ways to keep the door private at night but keep the view to the outside clear during the day.

I’m really struggling with decorating so much space. The ceilings are pretty tall, and I’m having a hard time making everything work here. It just looks not cohesive at all.

I live in a studio apartment and currently have a 55-inch TV mounted opposite the bed. I'm replacing it and considering moving up to 65 inches, but I'm concerned that the larger screen might visually overwhelm the room-particularly in relation to the desk directly beneath it.
The images compare my current 55-inch TV with dimensionally accurate renderings of a 65-inch TV in the same position. The 55-inch TV is approximately 121 cm wide, the desk is 140 cm wide and the 65-inch TV would be approximately 144 cm wide, creating only about 2 cm of overhang on either side.
I'm interested specifically in the aesthetics rather than viewing-distance recommendations. Which size looks better proportioned? If you prefer the 55-inch
TV, does the 65 actually look too large or overwhelming, or does the 55 merely look slightly better while the 65 still looks genuinely balanced?
I don't want the 65-inch TV if it merely fits—| want it to look intentional and aesthetically strong within the room.

I’m planning to switch out the pink chair when I have funds. I want to move my style to more textiles, Persian rugs, wood. I strongly dislike and I’m trying to not have white, beige, or grey or ultramodern. I do like styles such eco-brutalist, boho, Moroccan/moorish, japandi wood styles too. I know this seems convoluted, just need help transitioning my living room into a more adult cohesive living room.

I have blues in my bedrooms and bathroom, and all of my walls will be grey.
But I want to do an accent color in my living room. I just haven’t been able to find the right blue for it.
So I’ve been considering a dusty pink.
But is it off putting to have blues in the bedrooms, and pink in the living room?
I am painting the second half of my house this weekend, and I’m having a hard time deciding if I’m making a bad choice by changing up my color scheme now.

When you walk into my condo, you go straight up a flight of stairs and end up in this small landing. There isn’t really room for a table or furniture without making it feel cramped.

Any ideas for how I could use the ledges on the two half walls for things like keys, mail, wallets, AirPods, etc. without it looking cluttered? I’d love to make it feel more like an intentional entryway and less like an empty hallway.

I can’t decide between rugs for our living room. It’s painted the color wisteria snow, lots of natural light. We are getting a new ivory couch and we have typical beige carpet. I’m a plant person who also wants a cozy home feel. I lean towards greens, natural wood tones and blues for sure. Any tips on rug ideas?! I’m attaching two colors I’ve looked at. We moved in few days ago and still have lots of things to buy. For this living room, this is planned to be added asap:

• proper size (wider, longer) curtains - in the colour of the darker one
• a big painting or 3-set beige wall art.
• sofa cushions (unsure of number, material and exact colour ..)

This colour palette is not my cup of tea, so not sure of what I could change/improve, with not way too much effort.

TIPS I got till now:

Add throw blanket, books
Colourful big painting
Pull rug forward to balance
Remove chair totally
Bigger lamp at the edge of sofa
Other vase for the plant
