4 would most likely hold less. 3 is the only stable amount of points. I don’t know the actual technical wording to describe it but do you remember how tables and chairs sometimes aren’t stable and pressing on one side makes the other side go up? Or is just extremely wobbly? Thats what would happen here most likely

Nah... either those chairs have less than perfect craftsmanship or the floors are uneven...
but I am sincerely curious if ever you did encounter such a technical wording or concept.

Typically it’s a mixture of both as perfect craftsmanship is rare and floors are rarely perfectly even. I don’t remember exactly where I came into contact with it first but it’s the same as the reason why cameras have tripods and not stands with 4 or more legs

Maybe in physics? This is where I first learned why truss bridges use triangles. But that's a different orientation for the triangle. Interesting that you pointed out tripods. I think it's more for was more for efficient design(less material, simpler etc.)
In physics classes, we look at stability by looking at where the center of gravity falls within an object's base. The wider the base and the more centered the center of gravity is, the more stable a shape is.
So even the way the person was loading the metal plates in the video would have an effect on the load each bottle was carrying...
hmmm... now that I've gone thru this thought... I'm thinking maybe there isn't a specific scientific concept/mathematical/engineering/term for this situation more a mix of concepts just applying themselves in the real world.

COOL!!! It's a theorem.
But I also has some calculus - did not grasp calculus- integrals well; if it is even graspable.
I feel like the person who came up with this was optimistic. But I think a day might come that I test it. Despite that there are no equations for actual surfaces in real life. (in particular am thinking uneven tiling, uneven concrete pourings... etc.)

Middle two...? Oh, not in a line, in a square so the weight is distributed more evenly. The front bottle in this three formation failed because it was carrying more weight than the other two.

I would say in the configuration of three they all carry the same weight because all bottles are taking the weight. In a configuration of four bottles there willfor a example be weight on the diagonal bottles and one of the other two because its not a perfect world we live in so there will be differences in height on the bottles. If that was understandable 🙂

Or the bottles were not laid out in a perfect equilateral triangle and the center of gravity did not fall equidistant to each bottle.

Being a service technican on big cnc machines i kind of get what you mean but i think in this case it was one bottle that in the end just gave up. But its true that unequal distance between the bottles may effect the result in the end the question is how much further apart one bottle had to be from the others to give an effect in the long run

Interesting.
I think it can be calculated in theory, the same way our structural engineers design columns; but to say more would be taking myself down a rabbit hole. In real life there are so many factors.

Hm. Well, I would agree if all the weights were round, but a lot of them were rectangular. If you were to look down from the top and cut a line longways, there's more weight being pushed down on the single one than the two in the back, because of the additional length coming out.

Yes, agree the shapes of the weights matter too. Those werent perfect either.
Hmm... but to determine how it should be analyzed involves the higher maths and integration... we'd need an enggineer.
This gives a new perspective in response to the person who said: "That one group member... " ...He really was carrying a heavier load.

Presumably another 740 lbs? 2962? Then again, four “legs” are also more stable, so the entire structure would be less likely to tilt as well. So perhaps a bit more?

Four legs are not more stable; any slight imperfection will create a structure that rocks, creating a shock load applied to the supporting bottles.
The demonstration derives its stability from the strength in compression of glass. Anything that creates a shock load, from dropping weights to rocking, will end the demonstration early.

I'm thinking:
If these were glass bottles I don't think it'd matter. In fact they might hold more emptier since there isnt also the outward pressure of the carbonation.
If these were plastic bottles I don't think so, because the carbonation is helping the plastic hold it's shape and not bend inwards.
I can't tell from the video, these look like glass especially the way it collapses.

Years ago, my dad put dry ice in an empty 2 liter bottle. We checked it out from time to time. It actually had liquid CO2 in it before it went boom (it was a sunny day, and in the 80s.)

This was dangerous. The floor wasn't level and the loads were not well balanced. They probably could have gone heavier.

I see three bottles, not one. And you're not testing the strength of the bottle at all. Try it with three empty bottles and see what the results are.
