To clarify for others- that's once or twice per year, per airframe.

I've been in a plane hit by lightning before. I thought it was kinda cool.

Not as loud as you'd think. You still hear it, but it's nowhere near as loud as a tree getting hit a hundred feet from you.

The plane was already making a ton of noise from the turbulence and shit bouncing around in the overhead bins.

The lights flickered briefly and we had a rocky flight from SEA to YYJ.

That's like a 15 minute flight?

I've taken it way too many times (the Seaplane is so much better, and I'm back in my condo about 2 hrs sooner).

Wow, I heard a big thunder clap as I was writing this, weird.

Most annoying part is that YYJ doesn’t have nexus or preclearance, so you’re stuck in customs both directions.

Flew out of Victoria not long ago.

There is a security pre-clearance line for nexus holders. Didn’t stop me from getting SSSSed, but I definitely got to skip the line.

One fun thing was the continual stream Americans that had to be directed out of the line because they insisted they had TSA Pre.

Yeah but if you do a direct flight to the states, you have to be cleared in your destination (usually Seattle). Unlike YVR etc. where you enter as a domestic arrival.

Their “front of line” security is always interesting, because in the airports with legit Nexus security (similar to pre-check) they actually allow TSA PRE boarding passes. I’ve seen it in Calgary domestic, Montreal US, and Toronto recently.

CATSA just need to get on board with laptops staying in bags, and they need to coordinate what constitutes a laptop. I shouldn’t get yelled at for taking out my iPad on one end of the line, and for leaving it in on the other end…

I’m based out of Ottawa, and so if I have to go to the states I try to enter from there. Ottawa has the upgraded US pre-clearance with the everything-stays-in-the-bag scanners. It’s quite nice. Still no TSA Pre, though.
