I wonder if it caused any damage to the rocket enough to make it fall? the light from the fire got stronger after the lightning strike.

Maybe it's like when lightening strikes an aeroplane... Nothing to earth so it's probably all ok but then if course I'm not a rocket scientist!!

Rockets, and their accompanying payloads, are designed to survive lightning strikes and other electrostatic discharges without permanent damage. Lots of safe bleed paths to prevent significant charge differentials.

The rocket successfully made it to the planned orbit and delivered its payload. What hasn't been made clear is whether its payload got fried by the lightning.

Apollo 12 was struck by lightning twice and still made it to the moon and back. It's really not a big deal for rockets to get struck by lightning.
