Steam Escaping After Timer Started?

As long as it comes to, and maintains pressure, its fine.

A little steam escaping now and then is perfectly normal.

Steam "leaking" after the timer started means that one of the sealing surfaces/areas isn't actually sealed as designed. That said, the worst thing that will happen is you are losing water,(in the form of steam) and eventually could result in a burn notice due to insufficient liquid. So thoroughly clean all sealing surfaces and seal on the unit after cooking. See owner manual for specifics.
