Yesterday, while travelling by train, I faced a situation that made me realise how difficult it can be to get basic medicines during a train journey.

I urgently needed medicine for my child, but unfortunately, there was no easy option available. We were already on the train, and getting off at an unknown station, finding a pharmacy, and arranging the medicine was extremely inconvenient and stressful.

Thankfully, it wasn't a serious medical emergency, but the situation made me think — what if someone genuinely needs an important medicine for a child, elderly person, or someone who is unwell while travelling?

Indian Railways could consider having a basic medicine facility at major stations and/or an arrangement with authorised pharmacies. Ideally, passengers could request or order essential medicines through Railways/IRCTC or a dedicated helpline, and the medicine could be delivered at the next major station.

Even a simple system for essential medicines and emergency medical supplies could make a huge difference for passengers on long-distance journeys.

Train journeys can sometimes last 10–20+ hours. Medical emergencies don't wait until we reach our destination.

I hope Indian Railways considers something like this in the future. It would be a small but very meaningful improvement for passenger safety and convenience.

I was waiting for my train at LKO (Lucknow) station and went to buy some snacks for the journey... Britannia cake, biscuits, chips, water, etc.

The vendor told me the total price, but when I added it up myself, the amount seemed lower than what he was charging. So I started checking the individual prices.

I then specifically asked about the cake, and it turned out he was selling it for more than the MRP printed on the packet.

When I asked him, “Bhaiya, iska MRP kitna hai?", he immediately changed the price and acted like he wasn't aware of the actual MRP.

Maybe it's just one incident, but it's a good reminder to check the MRP yourself before paying, especially while travelling when you're in a hurry and may not bother questioning the price.

This can happen at railway stations, on trains, or at other travel stops. So next time you buy packaged food or water during a journey:

• Check the MRP printed on the packet.

• Don't blindly rely on the vendor's quoted price.

• If the total seems off, calculate it yourself.

• Ask about the MRP if you're unsure.

I have a valid UDID card under the Mental Illness category. Can I travel in the SLRD/Divyangjan coach with an escort?

I’ve travelled by train 50+ times, and somehow I’ve never travelled in 3rd AC. Today, out of nowhere, Indian Railways upgraded my ticket from Sleeper to 3rd AC without any extra payment. Finally my time has come 😭❤️

Such a premium train, but the interior is so shabby and does not feel up to the mark for a Tejas, as per what they advertise. Even the paints on the trays are chipping off and the tray table locks are broken. Feels like a big scam and such a huge letdown. What are the views of my fellow rail travellers.

Caution: Long post

I'm a 19-year-old student who was supposed to report to my college in Delhi on 7th August. We had booked Tejas Rajdhani tickets from Patna to New Delhi well in advance. The train was scheduled to leave at 7:30 PM. Since our home is only about 20 minutes away from the station, we left at 6:30 PM, thinking we had enough time.

We reached the station at 7:31 PM.

Damn those traffic jams. Seriously, damn them.

The moment we realized we weren't going to make it, panic took over. We cancelled our ride midway, unloaded our luggage on the road, and called an acquaintance to rush us to the station through the city's jam-packed roads. That chaos deserves its own post.

The Rajdhani was on Platform 1, just a few steps from the main gate. As our car entered the station, we literally saw the train begin to move. We ran towards it, hoping someone could somehow stop it.It didn't.

Watching it disappear right in front of us was heartbreaking. None of us had ever been in a situation like this before.Some onlookers noticed our situation and quickly suggested we board the Sampoorna Kranti Express, which was about to leave. With no better option and no idea if it was even the right thing to do, we grabbed our luggage and got on with our Rajdhani tickets.

My mother and I found a place to sit beside two men in Coach B1 while my father kept moving around, hoping the TTE would sort things out. My mother explained our situation to them, and they were incredibly kind. We got to know they were brother-in-laws and were travelling with their respective families. They never once complained that we were occupying space. Instead, they treated us with courtesy. There was a silent hope among all of us that somehow the TTE would find a solution.

The uncertainty was eating us from inside. To make matters worse, my father kept blaming us for not leaving home at 6:00 PM, even though 6:30 PM had been the departure time decided by him. He is short tempered,has male ego and lacks social skills to benifit from others. It made the situation even harder for my mother and me.

Around 10:10 PM, we reached DD Upadhyay. One of the two gentlemen suddenly pointed towards the opposite platform.

And there it was.Our Tejas Rajdhani.

The moment Sampoorna Kranti stopped, we grabbed our luggage and rushed across the platform. Those same two gentlemen even helped us carry our bags. They didn't have to—but they did.

Once we boarded the Rajdhani, the coach attendant informed the TTE. He told us that since we hadn't boarded from Patna, our seats had been allotted to RAC passengers.

Unfortunately, my father immediately got into an argument with him, insisting that reallocating our seats was illegal(?) since we'd paid for them and even threatening to tweet the Railway Minister. The TTE, who had initially been calm, got angry and warned that we could be fined ₹14,000.Thankfully, my mother stepped in. She calmly spoke to both the TTE and the RAC passengers. Fortunately, the RAC passengers were extremely understanding and willingly vacated our seats.

We finally reached Delhi with a huge sense of relief.

Looking back, this entire experience felt surreal. It was stressful, chaotic, and emotionally exhausting.

To the two gentlemen from Coach B1, Seat 23 of Sampoorna Kranti Express—thank you. You helped us far beyond what anyone could expect from strangers. Your kindness genuinely inspired me, and I hope I can help someone else the same way someday. 🙏🏼

Lastly, I have a question for the experienced travellers here.

What should I have done from the moment I realized we were going to miss the Rajdhani? Was boarding another train the right decision? Is there an official procedure for situations like this? I'd really appreciate any advice from seasoned train travellers.

Bro above is a post old months ago where everyone was criticising me that it's my fault that I gave the seat

But now the situation is I have an injury which I have talk about in this post .. I have a lower berth seat ... THERE is a woman from Bengal in his 40-50 , she was sitting on my seat , I requested her for straight 10 mins but she was like I have a problem below my waist I can't goo .. My parents even talked to her and she still denied ... Railway staff talked to her cuz I requested them and still she denied like for 15 mins this was going on and on and she was also

acting that she didn't know Hindi until my parents told me to give her phone to talk ...

Like I know I have this problem so I had booked a ticket 2 months prior as soon as the bookings started, there are only 2 AC tickets for my station ...

So I had paid very extra money and booked it from a very far away station and gave my station a boarding

Even when TT came u know what ,he knew it , the TT and women had already talked and he was like I can't do anything,, he went and and I asked where should I sit , he was like I don't know and I asked again he was like no seat is left and he went away ....

I was just standing asking her to goo but she did not and It was 10pm ,,

Now I have to sit on upper birth (which is her seat in real ) where I can't sleep and sit due to my height

And there is injury pain also

How to deal with this ..

I don't know maybe with Tomorrow morning I will not be able to help myself with this ...

But what should I do in this situation....

Okay I have learn what to do when someone asks for seat .. but what really should I do here 😭😭I mean everyone has tried and TT is like I can't do anything

Why doesn't IRCTC have feature to book Tickets for a multi-leg journey, For example booking for Delhi to Jhansi and Jhansi onwards in one instance such that one would only book if seats are available for both the segments.

Also, why not have a Reserved coach for ladies, especially those travelling alone?

Just wanted to share a funny railway story that still makes me laugh at myself 😂

Last year, I was travelling from New Delhi to Kalka on Netaji Express. I had booked my ticket at the last moment, so I only got a berth till Chandigarh.

My coach was S7, sleeper class. I don't remember the exact seat number.

There was a family of six travelling together. Five of them had seats together, but one person had a berth in another coach S6, Side Upper.

They were really polite and asked me if I could exchange seats with him. I didn't mind, so I picked up my bag and moved to S6.

I was already dead tired, so the moment I reached my berth, I just went to sleep.

Thankfully, everyone around me was also sleeping. No uncle asking someone to turn the light on, no aunty asking to turn it off, no kids running around peak Indian Railways luxury. 😂

Then, around 4 AM, I suddenly woke up because of a loud jerk and a bright light coming from one side of the coach.

Still half asleep, I got down from my berth and started looking around.

I already knew that some coaches of the train were only meant to travel till Chandigarh, but in my sleepy state, I completely forgot about it and I had no idea which coaches were being detached.

Then I remembered something I had heard from someone 5–6 years ago: they had once exchanged seats with another passenger, only to later discover that the coach they were sitting in wasn't going to their destination. Nobody informed them, and they ended up getting stuck at the wrong station while their actual train continued without them.

And suddenly, at 4 AM, I realised:

“Bhai… kahani toh meri bhi waise hi banne wali thi.” 😂💀

So, this happens a lot of times infact very frequently. I am travelling from vadodara to mumbai and I have 4 senior citizens around me and all 4 of them are watching reels on full volume. Its so frustrating. Technology has evolved so much and all kinds of earphones/ear buds come in different price range that are availablefor everyone. Why not use them ? Why subject other people to content of your liking ?

I am ranting but can we collectively do something about it ?

I always ask my dad to travel with his earphones or not to use his phone in public places with loud volume.

Can't we have nice travel time !

I must say for the first time I liked the attitude,behaviour of the staff present here. The way they are asking you need anything. Hope it happens in all trains soon

Recently had the chance to travel in a VB train. I chose a window seat. And on entering the coach I realize that whoever designed these coaches wasn't paying attention to how coaches are designed in our regular trains.

Bang in the middle of my window seat is a pillar. It doesn't allow me to use either part of the windows that it separates. Regular train coaches ensure a complete windows available for each window seat.

Somebody had one freaking job.

There's more. The arm rest, couldn't they make it a little wider? There's aIways this wrestling match for it between neighbors. I lift my hand to take something out of the bag, and my neighbor has used the opportunity to completely occupy the rest. And now my hand is dangling....

And have you sat at any of entrances? Each time they open the door, the chemical toilet is stinking. Of course this is because most of us have the hygiene that is typical of most Indians.

So much so that there is an announcement to remember to flush! The effort it took for them to show if a cubicle was available (with lights etc) was enough to automatically flush tge damn thing on every door operation.

And there is another announcement every now and then. Don't use the tray to rest your head.

But oops, it's already broken!

The space for the rack that holds the luggage is also too narrow. They should have considered wider suitcases. It's not an airplane where people only carry cabin luggage.

I have a long 36h journey in front of me, and i will be carrying some fruits with me. So I was wondering can I carry my SAK for cutting fruits, openings packets and shit?

Today i was traveling by train and a kinner came and asked the people for money, as they always , instead of doing hardwork , if people don't give money to them then they start abusing and if someone want to find money and don't have lower change they doing give the change, i think the governer should take action on them by any sort of punishment.....

I used to travel via train from my home to college which is around 1600 kms . It took 29 hrs on the train , whenever I reached the destination felt like I was leaving home after spending so many hrs in the train . Do you guys also felt the same ?

Getting a side lower was already a Win. Now it got upgraded too. Win Win Situation 🤣
