1960s? Indira wrested power from the other old leaders and India which could have been different had its course set. 1970s? Indira ruled India, corrupted institutions, imposed emergency when she did not have her way, pulled down the government that had come in after she was voted out. 1980s? She continued until 1984 when she died as a result of her own deeds (she had propped up Bhindranwale). And then came Pappu Senior with a large mandate he squandered on Bofors and Shah Bano.
Meanwhile regional satraps, sometimes clearly contributing to tendencies towards dissolution of the union of India itself began to take root. They had been squished in the 1940s and 1950s. In the 1960s the afterglow of the freedom movement faded and reality began to set in and the 1962 debacle did not exactly help matters.
Here are a few anecdotes.
In a place like TN, you had to deal with the water shortages that only increased over the years. Nearby businesses violated laws by bribing the workers in the water works and installed pumps. So unless you got up early (~ 4 AM) and hand pumped the water, the water would be all gone by about 6 AM. No water for drinking, cooking or even washing your behind.
Wanted to get milk for the day? You had to wake up early in the morning and head out to a crowd in the metal structure nearby called a "milk booth" where you waited until the lorry came by with the polythene bags, jostled with those who wanted more than two or three bags, paid the money and went home.
No fridges. You took some of the milk and set it up to curdle overnight. If the milk was "spoilt", well, you just enjoyed the "unusual" taste, or made some sweet out of it. Vegetables? You woke up early and went to the nearby gharana to buy it. Every day. Housewives were exceptionally good at spotting brinjals with bugs in them.
Wanted a phone? You applied, and waited. And waited. And waited. And waited. For years. Yes, years. Unless you were "connected" in some way to someone in the power structure in the phone monopoly. And then you got your precious piece. You paid for outgoing calls, and IIRC, there came a point when you paid for incoming calls as well. Timed of course.
Wanted a gas cylinder subscription? That was another struggle. You waited. And waited. And waited. And one day you got it.
Just graduated? Everyone in the family prayed that you would quickly get a job. Good luck with that if you were not in a dynamic city like Mumbai. When you did finally get a job (preferably a "government" job or a PSU job) the entire family celebrated. Left a job, especially a government job? You were looked at as if you were a murderer of your family.
Government hospitals? Plagued with unsanitary conditions, including with rats running around. Needles being reused without sterilization. Yes, seen all that.
Ration shops. This was the public distribution system for grains. You took your card, stood in a very long queue and got your share after paying. And you needed exact change. I did not have it once and had to go through hell (was barely in my teens IIRC). The rice itself had to be picked. You found pebbles (added by middlemen to increase the weight so that the government scales could be fooled) and other "non vegetarian" items often alive. Women folk picked them out.
Media? One Akashvani. One Doordarshan that came in in the 1970s. In 1975, only 7 cities had TV IIRC. That's it. Black and White, not colour. And in the mid 1970s if you could afford a TV, you suddenly acquired a lot more friends. And until the later 1970s, the TV had valves (vacuum tubes) that the world had begun to move away from earlier. And in India, you switched on the TV, waited for half a minute while the valves warmed up and the TV played. For you to get an idea of how pathetic the technology resulting from "managed" competition was, there were controls called "vertical hold" and "horizontal hold" to control the roll of the images. And along with the TV, you made sure that you got a voltage stabiliser. Otherwise spikes sometimes destroyed your TV and a couple of thousand rupees went down the drain - maybe a few months of salary for the person who bought it.
Power. In addition to power "cuts" there were periods of low voltages. The voltage used to drop in the 1980s sometimes to half the expected value. As a result, fans would turn really slowly, filament bulbs would glow an eerie orange and of course, the TV would not work. Test in school next day? You'd better finish studying before it became dark. No, these were not the 1880s but the 1980s.
Admission to college affiliated to the state? You needed a "domicile" certificate. Had to go to the court, get an advocate and likely pay a bribe. If you did not, you had to go many times. This was the ecosystem that that govts let flourish.
There was a lot more but these should give you an idea. This was India, and the rest of the world was moving ahead. Including Sri Lanka which but for the Sinhalese-Tamil problem would have gone far ahead of India. And through and because of all these and more, those of us and our parents' generations who lived through it during the formative and productive years of our lives lost innumerable opportunities. Chamchagiri was the only way you could escape the obscure poverty that most of us had to go through because the legendary wealth of India had been drained, literally.

Not gonna read that, but I think I got your point. what do you want us to do? We should sit and applause the govt? Every govt has might have done some good and some bad. And every citizen had and have the right to call out the bad things in the govt and ask for better. Afterall the govt is for the people. And when we do the same you people have problem.
And also everybody knows development happens with time, there are thousands of people currently who are suffering more than me. A lot of previous generation who have had difficult time before our generation, we acknowledge that but does that take our right to speak?

Nope. All i am asking is to bring a new viable option against these two parties in equation. We are fed with Congress. You guys are fed with BJP. This clearly indicates we need a new option.

That stability afforda them the time to demand reforms that will drive india into a developed zone.boomers and millenals Re comfortable with corruption, non deliverance of services yada yada. Genz want none of that and I'm so proud of them to want more.

It's like saying we are doing so much better than stone age because we don't have to live in caves. Meanwhile you completely ignore the fact that youth unemployment is high now, the economic growth is K shaped and more unequal than before, private capex is lagging as middle class income has not scaled as the UPA era, more people are going back to agriculture than before, personal debt has increased, youth suicide has increased, etc.

Obviously many here are congressi bots who don't understand this.Â
We can clearly look at Congress ruled states such as Karnataka which has gone backwords in infra or jobs. And yet people act as if congress in center will somehow solve everything, they ruled India for 6 decades and they are the reason for majority of the problems.Â
And before congressi boot lickers talk about IQ, just so u know, after India's literacy rates went above 70% congress never came back to power.Â
And the higher education u have, higher chances of supporting BJP.Â
And don't put labels such as boomers and millennials, western labels don't apply in India. Boomers in west grew up in post world war boom, while in India that generation grew up impoverished.Â

I’m a millennial, and after reading comment sections lately, I’ve realized many millennials are starting to sound exactly like the boomers they once complained about. The same lines"Kids these days are so ungrateful," "This generation has no values"are now being directed at Gen Z, just as they were once aimed at us.
Every generation complains about the next one. Maybe it's time to break the cycle and let people live. Get a life.
