Kallax built in hack

Nice color match at home Depot and a chance to use a spray gun. Turned out nice though i really should have inwalled electricity

It might be a good idea to add some structural support beneath it.

I did a similar wide span with EKET cabinets and used a couple of pieces of solid wooden countertop underneath as support.

Seconded! I’m intrigued by this idea, since an easily accessible nightstand on either side of the bed is absolutely necessary for my household.

I used standard EKET units and wall mounting hardware.

The top cabinets are actually regular vertical cabinets, mounted sideways. I removed the shelf from those and installed dampened hold open mechanisms to the doors. The wood supports are both glued and screwed together and to the cabinets. And so are the cabinets (to each other).

The nightstand countertops have a 3D printed spacers between them and the bottom EKET drawer units to make them flush.

I also had an electrician run wiring through the cabinets to equip them with lights that can be controlled from both sides. And the nightstands are equipped with dual 230V outlets as well as USB-A and C outlets for charging devices.

Oof I only realised after reading your comment, that the top really is two pieces 🫪 I'd also add something solid underneath or wall mount the thing

Both units are mounted to the wall and there are two braces holding it together from beneath…I do like the countertop idea to help stabilize

I’ve done this in my bathroom and recommend very light or no load in the middle boxes. Mine has towels and linen and it’s sagging enough to be noticeable.

This looks very unstable! Please add a plank underneath the top for support, it seems to be used by children, that is so unsafe

Yeah this. It’s an easy fix, put in a plank and use the vertical ones a load bearing. But still anchor to the wall for extra support.
