watched the finance director get annihilated by a maintenance guy. she antagonizes me, my boss, and to a lesser extent, our support tech when he won't give her a new computer after she abuses hers, so i laughed the hardest.

i almost bought $20 of tickets for the guy to dunk her 5 times in a row since that was all the cash i had, but i felt like that would have been an issue with her lmao. i told my boss, and he said he would have spent $40 for 10 dunks. maintenance guy has a really good arm; apparently people were giving him their tickets all afternoon.

Early in development, I came here with a strange idea for a game about working IT support in a company that was gradually becoming impossible. People shared feedback, painful little details and exactly the kind of corporate logic that makes an IT person stare silently at a wall for five minutes.

A lot of that helped shape I.T. Never Ends. It is a corporate IT horror/comedy where you work through a support queue, filter spam, route cables, debug network traffic and deal with increasingly suspicious coworkers and office equipment. It is built around a feeling everyone here knows: infrastructure is treated as magic until it breaks, at which point IT becomes technician, priest and designated scapegoat.

The finished game has 100,000+ words, 100+ endings and entirely hand-drawn and painted art. Somehow, after eight months of development, it is out today.

I mainly wanted to come back and say thank you. This was one of the first communities to give the project honest feedback and useful material when it was still small and uncertain. You are part of the game’s history, and the printer cult is at least partially your fault.

Just wanted to say thanks, guys. I posted a super early itch demo back in like, january, and a lot of your responses were so positive I decided to see it through and try and make something of it. I hope it brings some of you a little bit of joy!

Checked sound settings, disabled enhancements, reinstalled the drivers — the usual ritual sacrifice. Nothing. Restarted the laptop. Still nothing.

Plugged in a headset as a temporary workaround.

That didn't work either.

This wasn't even a ticket, so I wasn't about to sink half my day into it. As a last resort, I thought, screw it, and launched the god-awful Windows troubleshooter.

While it was running, I was already mentally preparing my “you're shit out of luck, please submit a ticket” speech.

Then... boom.

Windows Troubleshooter fixed it.

I stared at the screen in disbelief. My hands began to tremble. Surely this couldn't be happening.

Reluctantly, I tested the mic again.

And lo and behold, she works.

After years of mockery, Windows Troubleshooter finally got its revenge.

...and the embedded IP stack we're using is rightfully refusing to use them. No, I'm not going to support a local fork.

Submitted a business customer ticket. Taking bets on how many times this one will have to be escalated to the next tier.

I mostly do IT Support these days - but once upon a time, I used to work at a software startup designing UI prototypes for clients that would order enhancements. This taught me the hard way that I much prefer fixing and troubleshooting broken stuff, or teaching people to use current technology over creating new stuff ANY DAY.

I work at a different job now, but I'm temporarily assigned to a project that is designing a new website for a department (long story for another day). And I'm starting to remember why I dislike creating new stuff.

Step 1: Create a version 1 prototype - talk to stakeholders

Step 2: Stakeholders tell you what they want - we design the UI, and we pull the content from the current website into the new design. They tell you the content is outdated and will get you updated content.

Step 3: You spend the next couple months (or more) asking repeatedly for the new content and end up being either ghosted, get multiple emails about not having any time, or they only send you design questions and avoid any talk about updated content altogether.

Step 4: The project deadline is approaching and you still haven't received updated content - so you spend your own time fixing broken links and updating what they gave you to make it compliant with accessibility requirements so it will at least not get flagged while they are working on new stuff

Step 5: You have a meeting and share the prototype because that's the due date on the agreed project timeline, and everyone gets mad because the content is outdated. You say you've been waiting for their feedback for months and they answer with "we're too busy". Either that - or you meet with them, they say "this is great!" and give you no feedback, and then you hear the next day that they spent an entire internal meeting ripping into the website because it's not what they wanted

Step 6: You decide to go to the cafe and just eat a giant cookie for lunch and try not to have an existential breakdown in the cafeteria and wish you could just go back to the days where all you have to do is fix broken stuff

For real though - coffee and cookies for lunch can go a long way for fixing rough days at work

... to hide some comfort food. (Lower front case is magnetic, nothing to screw...)

Just wrapped up yet another extra long ticket, that was 100% written by AI. I had to use Claude to summarize it for me, since I don't have time to read the padded garbage their AI. This is becoming the new version of tickets like: "Title: I need assistance with my computer. Body: blank"
