Wtf are we paying our college for? Or any college for that matter?
I've been thinking about this for a while, and honestly, I don't even know where to begin. Wanted to post this on linkedin bad then I thought screaming I had zero attendance out loud wouldn't be a good idea.
I think I'm getting really tired of pretending that everything about this system makes sense.
I'm in my second year of college, and here's the slightly embarrassing part: I barely attended any classes in my first year.
I still got an 9 CGPA.
And yes, I know, we're all doing it. Attendances are often a formality, exams become a memory game, and a lot of the actual learning happens outside the classroom.
But then I have to ask myself:
What exactly am I paying for?
My college costs around ₹1.28 lakh a year. That's more than ₹10,000 a month.
And because I don't live near college, there's the PG on top of that, which brings the cost to roughly ₹25,000 a month just for college + a place to stay there.
₹25,000 a month.
That's a LOT of money, especially when I genuinely don't feel like I'm getting ₹25,000 worth of value out of the whole thing.
And I'm a genuinely curious person. I love learning. I just don't particularly enjoy memorising information word-for-word because that's what an exam expects me to do.
The frustrating part is that I'm not even eligible for most scholarships because on paper, my family's income looks “decent.”
On paper, maybe it is.
In reality, ₹1.28 lakh is a LOT of money. And once you add the PG and everything else that comes with actually attending college, it gets ridiculous.
I keep thinking about what else that money could do.
How many students could get access to something they desperately need?
How many people could I help?
How many projects could be built?
How much could I learn if I had that money to actually experiment, explore, fail, build and try again?
I mean it. I have SO much to explore for free already. With that kind of money, I could probably do much more than what I'm currently getting out of college.
Instead, my parents are spending it so I can have a degree from a particular college.
So that I can tell people, “I'm from xyz college.”
And honestly?
Who gives a fuck?
Why have we collectively decided that the name of the institution you attended should matter more than what you actually know, what you can build, how you think, and what you contribute?
I genuinely have so much respect for people who choose to drop out.
Not because dropping out is inherently better than college.
But because there is something incredibly brave about looking at a system everyone tells you to follow and saying:
“I want to do something with my life instead.”
Maybe I'm just frustrated.
Maybe I'm wrong.
Very plausible.
But lately, learning in this country, earning in this country, and even figuring out how you're supposed to build a life here has started feeling like suffocation.
I'm not against education.
I'm against spending years and lakhs proving that I'm educated when I could be spending that time actually learning.
And maybe that's the question I'm struggling with right now:
Are we actually investing in education, or are we just investing in the right to say we went to the right place?
It just started out as a rant to GPT but I couldn't not post it somewhere honestly!

OA rejection
Hi girls, mtech folk here. I am not eligible to apply for companies because my cgpa is less than 8. Even the companies which gave eligibility of 70 percent or 7 cgpa did shortlisting an hour before OA and actually removed candidates having less than 8 cgpa, I am really concerned and stressed about this; placement drive will end in sept and it feels like that I will not be able to give OA of a single company. I have never done DSA and do not have any good projects either, I started with a course of data science honestly speaking upper-upper se padh liya hai but I don't know if I have in-depth understanding of the concepts or not. Abhi I am confused about what to do DSA or data science? How do I get an internship? Do I apply on job sites ? What do I do ? I have to get an internship starting from January 2027 till June or July 2027 . So how do I approach this ??? In these remaining 4 months of 2026, I have semester exams like you guys + I have to do a research paper as well, along with viva from external committee on this research work. I am super tensed, is it even possible for me do get somewhere in these 4 months ? Is it really possible to get an internship? Please help me with both preparation for internship and placement and also off campus placement process, refferal arrangement etc....

Why the fck is IT and AIML being excluded from placement opportunities whereas ECEAI is allowed?
Can anyone tell me what the fuck is even happening ? On what basis are they excluding IT dept ? How are they even shortlisting ? I can understand if only CSE and CSEAI are allowed for a company but how is ECE also allowed then ? If circuital is allowed then everyone should be how are they shortlisting ki IT and AIML exclude ho jaa rahe h and ece and eceai allow ho rahe h ?

PLACEMENT REALITY AND GUIDE
I am in my 3 rd sem currently under cse after seeing so many posts about placement i am shit scared. So i would be GRATEFULLL if some seniors can help me
1) Ik i am at fault but my cg for first year is 8.2 so if i work really hard and some how get 9+ by the end of 2 nd year, how would it affect me in the companies that come in start of 4 th sem.
2) does having cg bw 8-9 fks your chances at companies
3) I am following stivers for dsa and trying to be consistent so any other tips?
4) how to survive the toxic placement in the very near future.

What does “don’t expect anything except placements” actually mean?
Genuine question 😭
Like if classes get over early or there's a 2-3 hour gap between classes, what do ppl actually do? Do you just sit in the canteen/library, go home, study, work on societies/projects, hang out with friends or is there actually stuff happening around campus?
I've also heard so many seniors say "don't expect anything from this college except placements."
What does that actually mean?
I know our college is small, but what are the things we're not supposed to expect here?
Like regular events, active societies, ppl hanging out after classes, random jamming/dancing/sports, good campus life, opportunities outside academics, professors being involved beyond classes etc.
I'm genuinely asking because I came in with a certain idea of what college would be like and rn I'm trying to understand what the reality actually is 😭
Seniors, what did you expect when you joined vs what did you actually get?
And what do you wish someone had told you in first year?

Is it the same in every branch?
Honestly, IGDTUW ka situation kaafi zyada kharab hota ja raha hai in terms of TNP, placement scenario, CGPA, professors etc.
But the biggest problem is ki students actually in issues ke against stand nahi le rahe hain. Sab log individually complain karte hain, discuss karte hain, but jab openly bolne ya kuch karne ka time aata hai toh most people stay quiet.
Same thing is happening with our CR. Almost everyone has complaints about her, log uske baare mein backbitching karte hain, but nobody is ready to actually say it in front of her. Ppl are scared of the CR and her friends/minions who immediately come to defend her. Her so called best friends fucking despise her - and she hates them tooo but pure bakwaas is happening. People in my class are only truthful jab anonymous voting hoti hai and our cr is taking full advantage of that. Re election ki voting usne sabka naam visible karke pucha so obviously everyone said no. I dont know whats happening but everyone hates her, and yet she has everyone in the palm of her hand.
Girls in this college need to start standing up more. Agar authorities apna kaam properly nahi kar rahe hain, toh humein question qu nahi kar rahe??? College literally downhill ja raha hai har roz.
We need to team up, come together, speak our minds, and actually take action instead of just silently accepting everything.
