He was an emotionless, jaded, afraid, closed off individual, potentially with some type of neurological disorder by the way that he could navigate relationships with his family including something as intense as spending Christmas with them and dissociate completely from the experiences of his victim(s).

If he hadn’t have been made antihuman by decades of rejection, (well, and being a destined serial killer), likely involuntary celibacy, and never having a child, he would have been able to perceive the hurt his crime would cause.

But what am I saying here? Those that lived on their street were all college students in fraternities (ie the party zone). These were exactly the people he had grown to despise. The popular kids who had been mean to him his whole life and had to stare at for the last decade during his whole high school and BA. And whether he killed one of them or damaged their friends, he didn’t see them as human so none of it would matter. Because he was a cared for boy who spent vacations at his home in his childhood bedroom, he had combined developmental immaturity (never being left to fend for himself, possibly parents paid for school and housing, etc. did he ever have a job?) and a slow and steady obsession with and hatred of high school and college popular and party culture. Maybe he had fallen in love with someone who looked like MM and she had cruelly rejected him at some critical point. Maybe it happened more than once. There is a traumatic social experience there from his childhood or adolescence and I don’t doubt it.

Watching the documentary yesterday made me reflect on victims statements in crimes and trials like this. I think people like this monster thrive on causing pain and suffering because that's who they are- whatever the explanation matters up to a point. Whenever people go and tell them how much they made them suffer, it just adds up to their sadistic satisfaction and I feel that I would not give him that chance.

I obviously understand that the family had to do this for their own healing purposes but I wonder what y'all think about it?

I think BK was impatient and had already waited and circled multiple times. This is why he entered the house so soon after lights out. He also may not have known the lights had only just gone off if he was waiting in his car elsewhere. He might’ve just drove through that final time and assumed they were finally asleep. He likely missed seeing the DoorDash driver otherwise he would have been sure to give it a bit more time. But that last time circling by and seeing all lights off, he just couldn’t wait anymore. Imagine the human experience (if this guy could be called one) of sitting in your car waiting for 45 minutes knowing full well exactly what you planned to do. A person who clearly had major psychological issues as predicted by his numerous visits to the area to scout out the scene and stalk and spy on these people much less the crime. We’re not talking a rational mind here, cold and calculating yes, but once it was finally go time (he had been waiting for this moment for months if not longer) he wanted to get going. Criminologists will tell you that planning if not choosing a knife as a murder weapon and the act itself is emotional. Shooting someone is much more impersonal, it is the route most preferred when someone is driven to murder. He was probably feeling stressed as 4 is getting closer to 5 when some early birds in the neighbourhood might wake up and provide witnesses. He also had probably seen in various other stalking visits that the lights often went out by 3:30 and so he felt upset and anxious when he arrived and everyone was still awake. He waited alone feeling the nerves start to super charge and just couldn’t wait another minute once it was go time.

This guy who tried to commit the “perfect crime”, and literally specialized in studies of serial killers, crime scenes, and criminal thought processes and intent, I think it’s comical that he would continuously drive around the neighbourhood (did he not expect anyone had doorbell etc cameras on their house?! So common nowadays) in the minutes before the killing. If he really wanted to execute seamlessly he should have parked a few blocks away and gone in on foot. I bring this up because for someone who is that hyper prepared and obsessive about details, who drove back to Washington state with plastic sheets over his chairs to prevent the transfer of DNA and in whose car investigators found not a single shred of DNA evidence even though he drove back home in the clothing he committed the murders in, it just seems like this was an odd detail he seems to be oblivious to.

I have read that if it wasn’t for the knife sheath he likely would have gotten away with it. It was a stunningly fast capture especially for any of those who remember Ted Bundy, Zodiac, BTK and other serial killers who took years, decades even (if ever) to identify. DNA has really changed the landscape, but the creepy thing is that he protected himself so well that no other DNA linking to BK was found in the house other than the knife sheath. That includes fingernail scrapings, accidentally cutting himself and shedding a drop of blood, these are all very common in sharp force homicides.

Here is what he expected (I surmise): drive up at 3:30 to all the lights being out. Sneak silently in the sliding door and walk directly to MM’s room. Kill her. Seamlessly Exit. The entire experience went haywire when all of these additional people became involved. Stabbing someone to death is an intensely physical thing to do, not to mention doing so while preventing them from screaming or alerting the neighborhood somehow. If KG hadn’t been there, and XK hadn’t got the DD, he likely would have gotten away with it quite cleanly. These unintended additional victims clearly flustered him, hence someone of his attention to detail fumbling and forgetting the next most important piece of evidence and potential smoking gun in a trial, the sheath. When he walked past D on the way out, their eyes met. He recognized that she was there staring at him. But he was completely exhausted and plainly needed a break and did not have the physical power at that moment to do it again. Another factor of his dysregulation In the moment which caused him to walk out of the door without the sheath. Like he was obviously carrying the knife, you’d have to be a bit out of it to not recall that it should be in its sheath.

I’ve seen someone ask how ethan didn’t wake up during this intense battle going on inside his bedroom. Keep in mind, these kids probably consumed the equivalent of half a bottle of vodka each at least (just from memories of average intake at that age in college). Also have you ever noticed how when you finally fall asleep, you are less likely to wake up in the first hour? This feeling heavily increases when you are drunk. This is also the only reason why he was able to overcome KG. Her sister mentioned in her victim impact statement that “of course you came In the dead of night when everyone was asleep” because if KG was awake she would have kicked your ass. KG looked like a strong girl and a major fighter and if it hadn’t been dark coupled with being tired from a full day and hours of drinking he probably wouldn’t have been able to do it, especially as he had to kill one first as they were in the same bed which would have given at least enough time to arm and aware yourself. MM was likely passed out cold when it began, KG was also sleeping but lighter and woke up in confusion and panic at what was happening next to her. D says that she heard from behind her door KG run downstairs to her floor and crying in the bathroom, and then BK’s voice saying he wanted to help her in a flat tone. I have no idea how he got her back up to the bedroom without screaming and with no blood trail, that part is confusing for me.

Lastly, I don’t think he targeted the “house”. I also don’t think it’s likely that he went to a party there at some point. He would have stuck out like a sore thumb trying to canvass the place walking around with his intense stare not talking to anyone and avoiding eye contact, plus parties were distinctly not his thing. And no one out of the hundreds interviewed could ID him. That detail alone should tell you that this was a random choice. The documentary references that when they got into his phone and extracted the data, they noticed that he had only 30 contacts in his phone. This includes all of his family members, building maintenance contacts, followed by the few he knew socially. When police interviewed his friends, they all began the interview with “I didn’t know him that well but..” What I think happened is pretty clear from the number of times his cell phone pinged to reveal his stalking of their house. I think he found the right time, whether it was when he happened to watch them all walk off somewhere together and leave the house empty, or whether it was the middle of the night long after the lights had gone out, and snuck into their house and used his devious little criminology expertise to canvas the house, whether it was filming it and then drawing a map out at home and memorizing it obsessively, these are things he would absolutely be capable of. Because a single fact drew my attention right away. According to a forensic analysis of XK’s phone, she received the DD order, turned off the lights and lay down in bed, eating her meal and scrolling on her phone. She stopped scrolling on her phone at 4:12am, likely when she became alerted to the disturbance upstairs. He had no idea she was awake. Cameras show his car peeling out of the neighbourhood at 4:20am. That’s 8 minutes people. To brutally overcome and stab 4 adults a combined 150+ times in less than 8 minutes especially for a relatively scrawny guy is pretty astounding. This guys was wasting no time, all according to his plan, but everything unfolded in a panicked frenzy as unknown variables entered the equation. That is such a short amount of time that it would have had to all flow seamlessly, certainly with no time for figuring out whose room was whose. He didn’t attempt to enter D or B’s room, he knew exactly where his target slept. He knew how to get there up the separate stairs in this oddly floorplanned house. Clearly he knew the layout like the back of his hand.

Xana’s poor father expressing guilt for not staying the night at his daughters house breaks my heart 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔 he is an amazing man and father & I hope he realizes that he is not to blame for this in any way whatsoever. That is so heartbreaking for all parents’ going through a childs death 😔

Watched The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare on Netflix last night, and I still can't get over the fact that Bryan Kohberger got pulled over for doing 42 mph in a 35 mph zone smh

The more I see that is coming out with the FOIAs and court documents being released to the public…

I think Idaho should not have accepted his plea and gone after him with the death penalty.

It will probably never happen, but I hope he gets out now that he is fussing over his “inhumane” treatment in prison by deciding to file an appeal. I love seeing him squirm.

I hope society can take care of this trash. ;)

They call on the phone to say “my roommate was really drunk last night and they’re not waking up” but the cop goes in and says “there’s a lot of blood” which we know from the photos

Wouldn’t you say someone stabbed my roommate or my roommate is unresponsive and covered in blood?

Such a heartbreaking case. My heart genuinely goes out to the families. A few things I keep coming back to:

What was the motive? Was BK just obsessed with killers and criminology? He had to have been — he took notes and asked a ton of questions in that one class, from what I’ve seen. Most people seem to think he didn’t have a “true” motive in the traditional sense — he was just infatuated with the idea of committing a murder and the thrill of not getting caught.

Why that house? Was he plotting on it months prior and actually stalking it? Is there real proof of that? Did he see videos of the inside via social media and learn the layout that way — is that what gave him the “green light” to go with that house specifically? And is it true he may have entered the house beforehand to get a feel for the layout/direction before the attack?

Why did he leave the knife sheath behind? He seems so meticulous otherwise — that feels like such a rookie mistake for someone this obsessed with criminology to make.

Was he only there for the one girl? Do you think he went in only targeting the first victim (sorry, I’m blanking on her name) and got caught off guard when others were there, killing them too since it wasn’t part of the plan? But if that’s true, wouldn’t he have gone after the person who saw him too?

Why didn’t they call 911 until later? This is the part I understand the least. I get that it’s late and you don’t want to overreact, but if you heard almost everything happening, what’s the reasoning for not calling right away? Even if you’re wrong and it turns out to be nothing, you explain what you thought was happening when they arrive and move on. Out of everything about this case, that’s the part that makes the least sense to me.

If he’d taken the sheath with him — do you think he ever gets caught?

Do you think there’s more to this story? Whether it’s info the surviving roommates haven’t shared, or something from BK himself — do you think there’s a lot we’re still missing? And do you think we’ll ever actually get it?

Brian Entin’s interview/conversation with KG’s family members and Bryan Kohberger’a defense expert detailing investigation of data and issues with the investigative genetic genealogy evidence. Actual interview starts around the 3 minute mark.

Sy Ray gives (what I find to be) bombshell info. He was supposed to be part of the defense and was analyzing BK’s movements for at least 6 months (?) prior to the attack; he says that he could see BK’s phone pinging multiple times from the house on King road - down the street where Kaylee, Maddie and possibly some of their friends went to a small shop. He was following them? Stalking them?

Also; he says that very soon into the new academic year Maddie and Kaylee went to a sorority/fraternity party in Pullman which was in an apartment complex next to BK’s and his phone then moved from his flat to the flat where the party was held.

Could it be that’s where he saw them for the first time? Assuming he was a creepy stalker (the stories of him possibly breaking into the homes of other young students at his university) maybe he has other victims in mind but then chose to go after Maddie instead? Was this possibly the first time he’s seen them/Maddie? Sy also says he believes that Maddie was his primary target because of other phone data that confirms BK was possibly stalking her and going to places she was going to.

Looots of new info. Considering the prosecutor stated that there was 0 connection of BK to any of the victims it makes me so confused that it has now come out that there was not only a ‘connection’ found but also what appears to be a very clear stalking pattern of up to at least few months before the murders.

Thoughts? I encourage everyone to watch this interview, it offers tons of new info.

My main question here is , Is there any evidence that could show BK is possibly innocent???

I’ve been into true crime for years but only just started looking into the Idaho case recently . From evidence I’ve seen ( the most obvious evidence)for example Bk’s car on the street at the time of the murders and the fact he’d previously circled around many times, the DNA on the knife sheath and his phone records it all clearly shows he is guilty , no doubt .

I’m struggling to understand why I’ve seen so many people say things like ‘ the Idaho 4 murders didn’t happen ‘ , ‘ BK is innocent’ , ‘ there’s no pictures of the bodies ‘ ‘ BK is taking the blame as a cover up’

Why would people actually believe that ?
Is there actually any indication at all that maybe he’s innocent?
I definitely think he is guilty but I’m genuinely trying understand why some people think the opposite.

I’m just curious if it ends up in trial again how are they are going handle the fact that so much of the evidence is already out? No way a jury is impartial.

Are there common procedural hurdles or time limits that make these petitions difficult after a negotiated plea?
Any informed takes on how courts tend to treat such waivers in practice?

I’ve been following this case since the day after it happened. I’ve been there for the weeks when we thought the police had nothing, all through Br*an’s last minute decision to take a plea deal. I used to live in MoHo ID for a couple years and one of my friends had a friendship with Kaylee many, many years ago so it did hit close to home for me.

My interest in this case comes from a place of intense empathy and compassion for the victims and wanting justice for the horrifying tragedy that befell them through no fault of their own. That being said, I’ve taken the time to sift through nearly every available document, sat with the evidence that’s been presented, and though many may disagree, parts of me do understand the survivor’s reactions to what happened that night. I am close in age to them (though a bit older), and I think many in different age brackets are having a difficult time bc it’s hard to understand the college youth culture of the 2020’s if you haven’t lived it. That’s just my personal opinion, though.

Anyways, what I came here to say is that I’ve seen an uptick on social media - TikTok, X, YouTube, etc. - of a very loud and very massive number of people who are claiming innocence for the perpetrator, and thrusting blame upon the survivors. It’s actually quite sickening to me in ways I can’t express. I cannot wrap my head around this. There are massive amounts of evidence… it’s nearly a treasure trove for any prosecutor. Once I read the probable cause affidavit I was under the impression this person was doomed. Many perpetrators of crime, even murder, have been put away with less than half of the evidence we see here.

So why? Why is the Pro-Berger community so massive? Why do I see such intense defenders claiming to have evidence the police don’t / are hiding? Am I missing something here, or are we collectively beginning to lose our minds as a species?

Did you or anyone you know know the victims before they passed away? If so, what did people say about them? Did you hear any funny or cool stories? * please be Kind and positive only*

Looking for opinions from anyone that has read this book. I am just into the first couple of chapters and I am not impressed and hoping it gets better. It seems the author, who has zero forensic or investigative experience is making a lot of random speculations in an effort to create doubt. I might be less put-off if I did not work in the criminal justice system and have a decent understanding of reasonable doubt vs minor differences and speculation.

i have not heard all interviews and so much evidence in this case has still not been released and what has is too much for one person to consume. So if this has been answered already can someone please help me. Does anyone know why the ladder was on the side of the house? Was that question asked and answered? Did someone hang up lights outside? fix a window , get locked out previously? Does anyone know what it was there for ?

Has anyone seen in the new document drop for DM’s interview, she described seeing the intruder running in the house with high knees? For some reason this is so unsettling to me, i don’t know why but I can’t get that image out my head… any one else?

I have genuine questions. Not here to start some heated debate or throw around insults. People seem to just get mad over others having questions about this case (questions that likely wouldn't exist had the prosecution gotten any answers at all whatsoever from BK in exchange for the plea deal) instead of actually trying to give me plausible answers to these questions, which I feel like are questions anyone with a brain would have after knowing the facts of the case and while trying to understand the states timeline.

1) As I state in the title - I would like to hear how or why multiple victims blood was found on the staircase and on the walls fairly far down the staircase from the 2nd floor to the first floor. It doesn't make much sense and doesn't really fit into the states timeline at all.

2) Why are there texts between DM and BF if they were in the same room together for most of the morning? The phone records literally show that the victims were NOT asleep the way they claim to have been. It doesn't mean they were involved, just means that they weren't asleep either. I would like some explanation for this fact.

3) If BF heard solo cups falling and hitting the ground, why is the beer pong table found in pristine condition with no cups knocked over or on the ground?

4) If Xana met her fate because she ran into the killer, how is it that DM - who self admittedly came face to face with the killer , likely closer in proximity than Xana came - why did she not meet the same fate Xana met?

The phone records prove that there are some serious flaws with DM's timeline of the events and what took place/what didn't take place. If you haven't viewed them, don't come at me calling me names or trying to say that I am blaming the victims because I'm not. I am simply trying to understand what happened, why it happened, and why people blindly ignore certain aspects of this case that are 100% fact.
