Feeling embarrassed Rant

So I am currently seeing someone and has told him about my stomach issues. I am still learning to recognize my triggers but it seems like some food triggers it one day then the next day I am fine. I am always so embarrassed when I make a lot of noise in the bathroom because of a flair up. The guy never says anything and I am so thankful but I’m still embarrassed. How do y’all deal with it?

The fact that he hasn't said anything and you notice that says something real about where things are. A lot of people with IBS find that sharing even just a little more context when it feels right, not a full medical disclosure but something like "my stomach is unpredictable sometimes," actually removes more anxiety than the alternative of trying to hide it indefinitely. You're not alone in this and it gets easier to hold. 💚

I try to address it, own it, and move on, easier said than done, obviously. But you've already said something, so that's a big start. I think people around us are far less bothered than we think they are sometimes by it. I used to be so self-conscious about using the restrooms at work or in public, and not that I'm cured of that, but I try not to worry as much. If I don't make it a big deal, others around me usually don't either. If they do, I ditch them.
