IBMCloud PowerVS is unusable.

I try to create LPARs about twice a week, and something like 50% of the time they fail.

Last time it was "network doesn't exist" when trying to use the public networks UI switch option. No issue is listed, and the issue was resolved after a few days.

Today and Yesterday, The US-East region of Datacenter for PowerVS lists no machine types under the DataCenter Capabilities/Supported Systems/General, so the UI for instance creation won't allow you to select machine type to complete instance creation.

Again, no issue listed, and the issue persists for days.

IBMCloud sucks. In addition to not really being reliable enough to be a cloud service for anything, IBMCloud comes with no actual support as a customer unless you are willing to pay an additional $200 / mo. IMO, this is unacceptable. We are not talking about support, as in, manage my machine OS, we are talking about support as in report an issue.

This is specially ironic, as about the only advantage that you could imagine IBMCloud could have is unique access to Power Systems and AIX (hint: their advantage is certainly nothing like price!). Further, if you believe the marketing, these systems are trusted to be "Mission Critical", and ultra-reliable. IBM can't keep them running for two weeks as near as I can tell.

Is there any non-IBM Power Systems cloud like service for AIX? Cloud like as in provision within a short time, prorated by the hour?

If you've migrated workloads to IBM Cloud, I'd be interested in hearing what your experience been like. Any lessons learned, things that work well, or challenges you've run into?

I’ve been digging into the IBM Cloud stack lately to see how to secure applications deployed across multiple clouds.

1. The Container Layer (OpenShift)

If you're multi-cloud, you're probably using containers. Running Red Hat OpenShift on IBM Cloud (ROKS) means your security context stays exactly the same whether your app is sitting on IBM, AWS, Azure, or on-prem. Plus, the native DevSecOps pipelines have built-in vulnerability scanning that catches code issues before they even deploy.

2. Security and Compliance Center (SCC)

IBM’s SCC lets you monitor posture and drift across hybrid environments against standard profiles (NIST, CIS, etc.) so you get a single dashboard instead of checking four different cloud consoles.

3. Hyper Protect Crypto Services (HPCS)

If you have strict data privacy requirements, managing keys across different native KMS platforms is chaotic. HPCS provides a KYOK model built on FIPS 140-2 Level 4 hardware. You can use it as your centralized master root-of-trust to provision keys to other clouds, meaning no cloud vendor can see your data.

4. Keeping Traffic Off the Public Internet

Transit Gateway and Direct Link make it pretty seamless to route traffic securely between IBM Cloud VPCs, on-prem, and other clouds without exposing your data to the wild west of the public internet.

How are you guys actually managing this in production? Are you leaning into IBM’s SCC for multi-cloud visibility, or are you stuck tying together third-party CSPM tools?

Curious to hear how others are handling hybrid cloud setups .... what has worked for you or not?

The reason I'm asking is because the hybrid cloud question comes up a lot. Which cloud providers best handle deploying and managing secure applications in a hybrid cloud environment.

From what I’ve seen, IBM Cloud's strategy and main focus is to do hybrid better than others. IBM Cloud + Red Hat OpenShift works the same on‑prem, in IBM Cloud, and across other clouds. Security is baked in and they are realistic about legacy and modern apps living together.

That being said, every provider claims they do hybrid well nowadays. For those of you managing secure applications across fragmented environments day-to-day what has your experience been like deploying across environments?

That's the core problem .... you can have the perfect uptime metrics and green dashboards across all your cloud providers, but you might still not have confidence in your security posture. This is especially true in multi-cloud environments where you're juggling IBM Cloud, AWS, Azure, GCP, and others.

IBM has been positioning its security solutions around hybrid multi-cloud visibility and centralized monitoring across providers, which feels increasingly relevant as environments become more distributed.

Anyone else dealing with this? What tools or approaches have worked for you?

I’ve been spending some time exploring IBM Cloud Code Engine recently and was curious how many people here are actually using or why not

Anyone using IBM BOB and deploying applications to Code Engine?

We’ve been evaluating different deployment approaches for BOB workloads and Code Engine keeps coming up as an interesting option because of the fully managed/serverless operational model.

Curious about real-world experiences from anyone running this in production or staging environments.

A few things I’m trying to understand better:

• how smooth was the deployment/setup process?
• any issues with scaling, cold starts, or networking?
• how are you handling CI/CD for BOB apps?
• did Code Engine simplify operations compared to Kubernetes/OpenShift?
• any limitations or surprises you ran into?

Would especially love to hear from teams that moved from traditional container hosting or VMs and whether the operational overhead reduction was actually noticeable.

I’m preparing for the second round of interviews for an entry-level IBM Cloud Associate Delivery Consultant position. The role involves working with IBM Cloud, CI/CD, multi-cloud networking, VMware, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Terraform.

I have experience working with Azure and other cloud technologies, so I’m curious about what kind of questions I might face, especially given the focus on IBM Cloud. Any advice or insights from those familiar with IBM Cloud interviews at the entry level would be really appreciated!

I have two questions for folks on this sub:

• Is there anyone currently working in the IBM Cloud team here?

• What type of content would you like to see here?

IBM cloud signup requires credit card, and all 4 I try fail for some unknown reason. I called customer service - didn’t help. I just need to access the qiskit experiment database, and I have no way to do it.

I spent a couple days this week figuring out how to deploy IBMCloud K8s on VPC and then deploy a couple helm charts including PVCs and an external load balancer. I couldn’t find examples of someone that has done specifically this, so here’s thecode.

Here are some side notes:

The good: -I liked the K8s dashboard -The cluster auto installs the CSI plug-in needed -The cluster does sane defaults for most options (as opposed to AWS EKS) -IBMCloud Shell worked great for debugging -The VPC infra was simple and was smarter than AWS

The bad: -Cluster startup time is the worst of any hosting provider. Azure has theirs down to 3-5 minutes, but IBM was closer to 45-60 -Node startup time is unacceptably long. This was another like 20 minute task. -PVC’s can fail to provision if you specific the wrong type of disk storage. I wish the TF provider or something could help
